- I'm not really sure what made me think I could do ANYTHING to improve this terrible fight- but I did something. Exciting! Dramatic! More violence!
Made entirely from clips from the Star Trek episode Arena - ภาพยนตร์และแอนิเมชัน
I remember 1st watching this episode with Dad when I was 5 or 6. As Spock called out the elements to McCoy, just prior to Spock's conclusion, Dad said " Sounds like he's making gunpowder." Then right after that Spock said. "Recall your basic chemistry doctor, 'GUNPOWDER'". After that moment I thought my Dad was the smartest man on Earth 🌎.
Not allowed to teach that kind of science in schools anymore.
It would not have worked.

I know, especially with a wooden barrel cannon. However, ARENA & THE DOOMSDAY MACHINE are the best edge of the seat episodes of TOS.
@@cordongrouch9323 My dad was a collector of antique firearms, mostly flintlocks. We had the same conversation as OP watching this episode first-run on our black and white TV. And my dad said the same thing you did: "The ingredients have to be carefully refined, measured, and ground, and finding the exact ratio is incredibly difficult." But hey, it's a TV show. My dad got that, too.
When I was a kid, my Grandfather showed me (couldn't touch it) his Grandfather's 10 gauge shotgun. That was one impressive looking firearm.
This is the most intense fight in the history of mankind somehow remastered into even more of an insane masterpiece.
Are you making a joke?
@@corachild2883 No your the Joke

Star Trek - Defeat of the Gorn
@@vincentcushnahan5292 No, your using 'your' instead of you're is the joke.
"A highly advanced, intelligent being." "Agghhthel sltherarrgh yrwwlsth!" Sure sounds like it.
Why would an alien species speak English
Let’s see
They have warp capable space ships
Were able to obliterate a planet with their weapons
So yes they are A highly advanced alien species
Yea for some reason I was terrified by seeing this when I was a kid!
The speed of gorns attacks are mind blowing I almost didn't see them
Dun, Dan, DAA DAA Dun Da Dun Dahh....(music to my ears!)
😄😄😄😄😄
Speed of his reaction to the rock falling on him is mind blowing lol
I've seen Biden move faster!🤨
@@scarygary-qq1pj 😂
This has Gorn too far…
In all my years, never thought of that!
@@huskerjpgOr as Spock would say, "In all my EARS."
Gorn above and beyond
You've all Gorn crazy...
The Gorn sounds like a chain smoking grandpa sipping his morning coffee.
Oh my god, I’m a Gorn
maybe yours but not mine.
1:38 Kirk’s expression says “15 years in the business, and here I am at Vasquez Rocks throwing papier mache boulders at a guy in a K-Mart lizard suit. Maybe I should have gone into the garment business like dad said…..”
Wouldn’t it be William Shatner saying that?
@@tracybosworth1033no
At least it's a nice sunny day. 🌞☀️🌝
🤣🤣
If I was getting his paychecks I would stand around throwing paper mache rocks all day.
That's me trying to get my 5 year old ready for school every morning hissing and all. She's not a morning person
I remember those days! Our youngest was a morning person, until she started going to school.
Ah, when Star Trek was fun and had a joie de vivre.
I’ve been watching this show for 55 years and it’s the first time I heard the gorn laugh.
That walking into the camera part😂...Gorn wanted to hug the tv audience
Broke the 4th wall before Deadpool. Deadpool’s commentary would be awesome during this.
I love the gorn it's different than a human unlike 80% of the others
Yes, after all they ARE supposed to be from another planet and solar system....
I Think we need gory in UK 2 kill Grooming Gangsters
If something is from another planet you would think a lot of life forms wouldn't be walking upright like humans and develop arms and legs like humans and eyes, nose, mouth, and ears exactly likes humans that are located in the same spot as humans.
@@joegastly6166 the in universe explanation for why so many of the aliens look like humans is that they are all descended (including humans) from the same ancient humanoid life form
1:16 If the Gorn had just bit him with those alligator jaws, it would be game over, but I guess he was too civilized for that.
Probably had a bad experience doing that some other time
The Gorn saw Kirk push that bolder about a week before and still didn't get out of the way
That rock was nothing for the Gorn. I was wondering why Kirk was not killed by the Gorn when fighting hand to hand if he is so powerful.
@@andresberger6240 I know you made this comment three years ago but I figured the gorn was just trying to subdue kirk at first instead of outright killing him, but after it didn't really work out he just decided "Ah well guess I have no choice."
You fixed it! Seriously, the reason the fight is so slow (the hand-to hand part at around 1:00-1:05) is because the guy in the lizard suit couldn't see well or move very fast, so Shatner was told to do the fight slow, and it would be sped up in post-production. Then someone forgot to do that. Now if you could just fix the fact that the rock Kirk threw at 1:35 disappears at 1:41.
Gorn’s voice sounds like Mel Blanc trying to clear out a loogie...
Lol it's so funny at 2:33 you can hear the gorn giggle to himself when he's crafting that sharp object. 😂😂😂😂
Heh heh!
And yet his mouth never moves! It's a ventrillogiggle!
Reminded me of beavis
Yes
Yeah I noticed that too after 20+ viewings. A devious reptilian
"He's gone". Yes he is Sulu. Good catch.
That Gorn sounds like my grandfather's clearing his sinuses every morning.
1:40. "Oh, so the monkey likes rocks, eh?"
You this is where the lizard people conspiracy came from.
The asteroid looks a lot like a Southern California desert.
Vasquez Rocks Park in southern California
Did you notice that when the Gorn pursues Kirk just before the cannon shot he walks onto a road? Is this a mountain road to a Metron vacation a spot?
An asteroid with an atmosphere and vegetation...
IT TAKES THE GORN 3 YEARS TO THROW A SINGLE PUNCH!!!
This was so classic. Loved it!
Gorn is one of the best Star Trek characters.
Proving once again that most people don't realize what they have until it is Gorn!
The GORN was originally used in the Outer Limits episode "Fun And Games" several years earlier. O.L. RULES!!!
Master tacticians going back and forth. Better than Frasier and Ali...
Thank you for uploading This masterpiece of History 😂👍
Save for the rather clumsy parts where Spock has to explain what's going on to the viewers, this is a great episode.
Excellent re-editing in this clip, too!
Id watch ST with my late mother years ago. I would imitate the gorns breathing, grunts and speech. She would laugh hysterically
This episode was shown to us in my seventh grade science class. We learned about minerals so the teacher figured it was a great lesson
It sounds like these Gorn have chronic respiratory ailments. 3:56 This looks like my cats first thing in the morning when they want their canned food.
Don't dis(s) Gorn! This fight is amazing, I don't know why anyone would ever think of saying otherwise. I can't think of a single other film or television series that has a better fight scene. I would much rather watch this gritty battle than any Neo v. Smith fights any day.
Agent Coulson : 5 Years later, And your Statement is still 100% valid!
The Gorn is a large replica of what the real Satan looks like not as big, very very, thin a sharper head with crocodile teeth, long tail, with tiny red eyes. I just told you what the real Devil looks like.
Capt Kirk at the cliff top with the boulder, “I’m your huckleberry.”
See Gorn Pop was a bad dude. And he ran a bunch of bad boys.
Looks like a Road Runner-Wil E. Coyote script.
Much better! I never understood why they didn't just speed it up and make it look like a cheap "James Bond effect". Some quick cuts and speeding it up makes all the difference thank you thank you!
Those Power Ranger moves by Capt Kirk never cease to amaze.
02:12 reminds me to the genius rock throwing plans of While E. Coyote 😀
I laughed my head off when the scene switched from the ship to the Gorn turning dramatically! Lolol! !
The Gorn is one very powerful space lizard with a girly dress
This is a good lesson in the difference that good editing can make.
Man, this beats Iron Man versus Thanos fight in Endgame all too pieces!
lol @ surface of an asteroid that has its own atmosphere and oxygen and day/night cycle.
And a notable extent of brushes of vegetation.
The brackets “slightly” is sensational. 😂
Best fight ever
S........l.....o....w.... Gorn..ask Kirk to wait.....so he can catch up....lol
Still can't fix the fact that a slap to the ears actually deals around as much damage as a fraggin' cannon...
Wow, this Predator movie is intense, Arnold looks so young.
I too, remember watching this when it first aired on t.v. I was only 7 at the time, but it really scared me seeing that big green lizard looking at captain Kirk that way.
After watching Gorn in SNW, this looks like Kirk was fighting an inebriated Gorn pensioner here.
The Gorn could kick butt!
Gorn's got a touch of the covid.
Hahahaha 😅
Or perhaps the gornvid.
No he has Gornorrhea
I remember when I saw this the first time it was on tv. I needed therapy and counseling after being subjected to the unbridled violence of this scene.
The Gorn is mad because his dentist messed up. 😂
1:21 The first discombobulate.
Guy Fleegman: I know! You construct a weapon. Look around, can you form some sort of rudimentary lathe?
2:16 Gorn is so cute when he's hammering 😄
But that little hehe at around 2:35
The Gorn snickering as it was setting up the booby trap is my favorite part.
If the Hulk saw Gorn he would get really happy and say "Oh a worthy opponent for Hulk to smash!!! Lol!!! 🤣🤣🤣
"Captains log supplemental..." as Kirk mumbles into a rock like it's recording anything.
Another asteroid that looks strangely like southern California. Go figure
Pov: Mark Zuckerburg loses his temper
This is WHY TOS is so beloved to this day, along with early Star Wars, etc. It was CAMPY. It was generally NON-VIOLENT. And it didn't take it self TOO SERIOUSLY. And despite those things, the STORIES were awesome.
Today, the writers and directors take out the campy (because they are serious artists trying to do something deep ), they have to make everything grotesquely violent (because again, they are serious artists trying to show the reality of life ) and have every character monolog for half the movie about their psychological pathologies. And the stories (for what few ORIGINAL ones they come up with ) are CRAP.
The Kirk/Gorn battle is one of the high points of TV history. Despite the campiness, you still felt the pursuit, you still worried for Captain Kirk, and still rooted for him to kill the Gorn, which made his moral decision the high point of the episode, not the campy fighting scene.
Scream queen!
I remember this episode from the late 60s and early 70s. When I watch this now all I can think about is Schwarzenegger (Dutch) fighting the alien at the end of Predator.
At least it's a nice sunny day.🌞☀️🌝
Given the apparent strength of the Gorn re the boulder, plus known strength of large reptiles and great apes, Kirk should've list his leg when he kicked it and the Gorn had a grip.
Also, given the teeth and assumed large gape and bite, when the Gorn had the bear hug on Kirk, one bite would've taken Kirk's head off or his shoulder and arm.
Of course, Gorn nay have wanted to enjoy a lo ger battle and or not kill kirk for negotiating
Where no man has gorn before
This makes Jason Statham look like Noddy. Hardcore.
I especially enjoyed the, "oh, shit !!" look on the Gorn's face, as Kirk's giant boulder fell towards him from the hilltop.
I was watching this re-run in the 80s and my mother says “oh no , Kirk’s a Gorner “ We have been quoting her ever since.
Very funny how they speed it up at the end of this clip 😆
What they’ve done with the Gorn in Strange New Worlds was a serious upgrade.
Gorn voiced by Ted Cassidy, Lurch.
Khan Vs. Gorn next.
Phlegm cough - vics vapor rub please
kirk gets a gorn gets a bigger stick ,,, space age arms race ?
I like the way the Gorn laughs...
Love Spocks eyebrow after he was beamed off
Kirk describing the gorn sounds like description of my ex in-laws
It’s amazing to me that the Gorn had all that strength, and was able to fend off all the damage Kirk inflicted with that bad case of emphysema. That’s what happens when you spend all your Gorn credits on Lucky’s & Pall Malls. 🤔🦎🚬
0:25 ‘What the hell are you?’😅😂🤣
You can't improve upon perfection. The original is a masterpiece of martial skills and theatrical Choreography.
Why didn’t the Gorn use that nifty looking lightsaber on his belt?
They each are wearing a translator so they can understand one another
Epic battle lol
" will quick and merciful" lol
Those styrofoam rocks can be dangerous
ikr
I lost it at the end 😂😂😂😂
LOOOOOOOOL I never saw this part ever since 15 years after watching the 1st cvlip
ghhhahahahahah it just gets even more hilarious looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool!!
Good ideas there, it reminded of a Mad Max movie.
I remember this episode 😀
The greatest TV series ever made. Just brilliant from Gene Roddenberry.
It's a lot better watching it on TV in 1980 as a kid than now. How did the Gorn get from this to colonizing part of the galaxy? LOL.
My favorite episode...as slow as that lizard Kirk can run circles around that thing
Best episode of Star Trek ❤❤❤
This episode was based on an SF short story, which might have had the same as this episode. The basic elements were the same: one individual from the two opposing sides, selected by a highly advanced incorporeal species, are set in an arena with a mutually inhospitable environment and stripped of all artifacts, including clothing. They might fight until one is defeated: the species of the victor is allowed to live, whilst the loser's race is annihilated.
There were major differences between the story and this episode. One, I have already mentioned. Another was that in the story the battle ground was split into two halves by a forcefield that neither combatant could consciously cross. Perhaps the greatest difference lies in the ending. In the story, the protagonist kills the alien, then wakes up on his own ship thinking it was a dream, until he realises he bears all the traumas of the fight, and a crewmate reports the destruction of the enemy fleet.
The ending of the episode is classic 'Trek, with Kirk declaring he won't kill the Gorn because it is an intelligent being etc, and thus earing the approval of the advanced race. I don't know how popular this episode was, but the Gorn left an impression on Trek lore, as they've returned a couple of times in later shows!
The alien protagonist in the story by Fredric Brown was dubbed by the human "The Roller".
This reminds me of the ali foreman fight.
Frantic opening round with kirk throwing everything he had.
Then rope a dope as kirk works out the cunning plan.
Ends with tko v the unbeatable monster..
3:01 When I go down hills in teh mountains, I go just like that.
Here would be two good match-ups! The Gorn vs. a Jaridian from Earth Final Conflict(don't know how many of you know that series). Two super strong, roughly humanoid aliens. And on the human vs. human side we have Capt. Kirk vs. Maj Liam Kincaid(E:FC), who fights the Jaridian! Opinions on who wins these matches???
The Gorn always seemed congenial, but in definite need of a higher fiber diet.
1:19 Yes Kirk the Gorns breath stinks.
