    Hello Emanuel.
    Always learning something from you. Thank you!
    I want to suggest, maybe for something "different", a look at interesting and challenging approaches high in the Andes mountains of South America.
    For example, the approach VOR Z to RWY 14 of Cochabamba (SLCB) in Bolivia is interesting! A departure from La Paz (SLLP) at 13,300 Ft ASL might also be great (only a 30 min flight). Boliviana de Aviacion, flies B737-700 and -800's on that route.
    Another very interesting approach is to runway 28 of Cuzco (SPZO) in Peru. Descent Delta VOR DME RWY 28. LATAM, flies Airbus 320's into that airport. Also a short flight from Juliaca (SPJL) in Peru, which is at the shores of Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world!
    Have some fun and thanks again!
    Roberto

    Well done. That certainly looks like a high sphincter tone approach.

    Went to Hong Kong several times while serving in the US Navy. Naval Aircrewman flying in P-3 Orions. Was always fun flying into Kai Tak. The checkerboards were huge and bright! No way you could miss them. Then we'd take the Starfleet Ferry over to Kowloon and go the the China Fleet Club which housed a big British Navy center.

      Must have been a great experience flying to Kai Tak! I wish I had that chance, but I'm probably born 30 years too late for it.

    When Kai Tak was still in use, there were not so many tall buildings along the landing path. I suspect the one who produced the scenery used the most recent satellite pictures.

    I heart Kai Tak, such an amazing airport and quite literally the beating heart of Hong Kong itself. Wish they'd done more to preserve some of it as a memorial for future generations, but I'm so glad we can still fly it in MSFS. Someone really needs to recreate the building height restrictions on the approach though, as nowadays there are loads of buildings on the approach that are way higher than was allowed when Kai Tak was still operating.

    Great video. But now I’m curious to the purpose of these checkerboards? The lights seem to be very useful, how do you use the checkerboards (if at all)?

    • @wallaby747
      @wallaby747 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Gives the pilot a reference of the surrounding terrain, and sort of a point where not to aim, you should stay right of it.

    You can also program custom waypoints in for the arrival as well, its a little fiddly since you kind of have to work backwards but it works really well when setup. Also the way it took so long to react to the glideslope is so infuriating. I'd have given up on it a fraction of a second before the plane started descending probably, it not responsive enough. I don't know if that is accurate or not but my god is it frustrating not being able to trust the equipment properly.

    I like the Kai Tak scenery from RedWing more because they remove any buildings that weren’t there in 1998, which the Asobo version does not.

    I once flew this approach in a British Airways B747-400 full flight simulator at Heathrow. It went well, but I found it very scary. You are sooo close to the buildings. I was affraid the landing gear should touch the rooftops. On take off, the instructor gave me heavy turbulence, and an engine fire to battle with. Nice guy 😊

    I feel like, in this instance, you are distracting yourself a bit too much during those final moments before touchdown, flipping views and switches that could wait, but thats just muh widdle opinion ;)

    • @vedymin1
      @vedymin1 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@barry4666 You think ? In a sim where you have to fiddle with views, go eyes down into the vc to move the mouse and hit a specific switch, in a real plane you can just reach for a switch by feel without distracting yourself from flying, in the sim all those things require much more attention to perform, do that during a turn close to the ground in a crosswind, changing your viewpoint and switching a switch on the other side of the cockpit, you can easily destabilize a manual approach. I personally would do all that during the straight part of this approach in the sim and then just concentrate on landing, but thats just me and this is just a sim without real consquences :)

    • @vedymin1
      @vedymin1 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@barry4666 And yet i noticed he had some difficulty regaining his concentration during the turn and ended up having a less than ideal viewpoint for landing, watch it again :) all im saying is that it wasn't ideal from, you know, having a stable point of reference standpoint :) he still managed well couse he a badass of coz :) im willing to overlook this xD jk ;)

    Another GREAT video Emanuel! One of the best experiences I had in my simmer life "vlying" (virtually-flying) this approach was with Aerowinx, first PS1 later PSX. Although the outside of windshield graphics are so so poor, the overall feel of flight due to the quality of pretty much every detail in that sim is so good that it made me forget about the lack of the great scenery provided by MFS 🙂
