    Hey man, I appreciate you describing the general differences between Large Diaphragm and Small Diaphragm condenser mics in relationship to transients. I don't think that gets said nearly enough in the TH-cam world, because microphone topology is going to define the general characteristics of each mic. People in the early stages of learning really need to hear that so they can know what to listen for when deciding on microphones and how they're going to use them.

      Ah, thanks. I'm glad you appreciated that bit 🙂

    Ed! This video is amazing. I can't imagine the time you must have spent on this to bring us this fantastic video. I absolutely love that drum set, especially the snare. Thanks for your hard work!

    Great vid -- I own the WA-412, WA-73EQ and recently purchased the 2MPX. Love the 412 for anything drums. Lots of gain so you have to be careful with it as I've learned over the course of my time with it. Great it has the output trim. I've not had it as long but my love for the 2MPX is equal if not greater. I've used it for several sources (vocals, drum room, keys, guitars) and it just sounds great. I love the tape saturation on drum rooms. You can get nutty so best to go to the edge of where you think you like and back off a bit. The WA-73EQ sounds great on most things you throw at it -- the one I have as developed an odd and occasional crackling with the output knob -- maybe have to send to Warm Audio for possible repair.

      Thanks, Billy. Yeh, they make good preamps. Glad you’re enjoying yours.

    Love the 2MPX! Hoping to get it into the studio sometime this year! Great video as usual.

    Those CX12's sound really good, might have to get one sometime. As for the comps, I ended up selling my WA76 and got a Lindell Audio LiN76 which I love. Still love my Warm Bus Comp tho!

      Yeh, the CX12 really impressed me! How is the Lindell different?

    Just got my first unit of WA-412 for my drum recordings. Looking forward to check them out and run them through a new RME UFX III Interface.

      Kick and toms sound great through it! Snares I prefer through a Neve style pre, personally.

      @@EdThorne Thanks for the advice 🙏🏻 I'll check it out as soon as I have setup all the new gear. 👍🏻

      @@EdThorne Did you use it on snare with the Tone button engaged? That's the impedance setting the API units were originally set to, and I think it makes a pretty big difference on certain sources including snares. In one of our tracking rooms we have 48 API preamps, a bunch of name brand Neve variations, but I typically use the WA-412 on drums. Though on some genres I'll prefer 1073/1081/1084 variants on drums.

    After this video I am interested in the WA-CX12 microphone. Hat's off to Warm Audio though. It's affordable and sounds great for what it is.

      Yeh, so far I’m really impressed. I’ll try it on vocals tomorrow.

    Cool Video Ed. I am a fan of saturation and distortion. But to be honest i never heard a tape machine that distorted in the old days. Would have been a case for the service technician. 😃✌🏻

      @EdThorne  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ha. This is probably true. I definitely exaggerated the settings for the video but I loved how it sounded so left it 🤘

    2:04 Those saturated drum sounds would be absolutely perfect for classic 90s Boom Bap Hip Hop music.
    And btw, Ed, do you have any thoughts on Warm Audio's WA8000 Mic? The C800G Clone. I'm quite interested in getting that one at the moment.
    Been looking for reviews.

    • @EdThorne
      @EdThorne  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeh, the tape saturation on the overheads smashes it! I’ve not tried the WA8000. Maybe @warmaudio will send me one to try 🧐🔥

    My set up is midi based, i.e. midi drums, bass and keyboard. Do I really need any of these devices?

    • @EdThorne
      @EdThorne  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Probably not. I’d be happy to record live drums for you sometime 🙂🤘

      I record on 8 track cassette tapes, not cold sounding daws. We'd have a hell of a hard time trying to mic up a drum kit....
