Hot take: core GW2 needs at least one raid wing that initiates players into the experience. That way you don’t have to get the “essential expansions”, you can try out a raid wing as F2P
Hey sneb, really loved this discussion. I don't think caff dad has ever heard of me but I definitely know of him- he has been one of the few GW2 youtubers to successfully transition to a multigame channel without just detonating his platform which is impressive and hard to do. Thumbnails are a science, but ultimately are a branding tool but don't need to be complex. I definitely think you should VLOG your journey, you can make a second youtube channel under the same Google account and have it be a different niche than your gw2/gaming/podcast stuff. You see many many other creators do this, I'd love to see a "what I've learned" style video highlighting weekly revelations or recaps of your progress through your PhD program.
The thing about youtube is that it can be as simple or as complex as you want to make it- congratz on monetization! Different niches pay different amounts so your "IRL" channel might actually yield more if you're doing marketing tips than gaming does which is one of the lowest niches. (Gaming is like $1.7 x 1k views where finance is like $4-5).

It's interesting to hear about how everyone is kind of in their own pocket right now, and I wonder if partners/content creators should attempt more collaborations or community events in the game to shift away from the pockets.
Sneb and Caffeinated dad! Loving these podcasts with other streamers. I do agree that LFG has too much bulk and it needs to be changed so that newer players would not get overwhelmed and be able to get into content while existing players can still play the content they love.

I usually keep them in the background while gaming.
Teatime, Lightbringer podcast and yours are the only good ones
And teapot being part timer now we get way less teatimes
WP only makes videos when there is a patch.

27:50 yeah, l came to this game seeking pvp because ff14's pvp sucked really back before endwalker. I did have a lot of fun playing 5v5. I have to admit that l would never have got into instanced content in gw2 If my friends didn't help me. They were established raiders. They taught me how to copy paste build from snowcrow, so l can get started with pvp. Then after l reach 80 from playing spvp, l made a decent amount of gold from selling shards of Glory, and they taught me how to buy correct gears. I was building precision on healer for a while because l thought healing could critical hit like like ff14... And l am glad that got corrected pretty quickly.
Oh btw, l learned dodge roll And dispel condition by the time l reached 80, so that helps
Issue with the lfg is it doesnt allow newbies to get to play,because majority who play certain content want exp players w 20+kps.
This isn't true. Anyone can make a group. The real issue is that fewer new players get into the content because there aren't many reasons to get into the content. That, coupled with squad functionality being locked behind a tag, makes it harder to find low KP groups.
Be the change. Make a group and require low or little KP.
