The Miata of bush planes (or maybe Lotus Elise). Doesn’t need a ton of power if you make it really light!
What people don’t think about is that a 150-180 hp engine in a 1000 lbs plane is on par with a 450-530 hp engine in a normal 3000 lbs sports car.

Congratulations! You'll never forget that first flight, first p.i.c. and first solo! Get em while they're hot. I see these and kits like them skyrocketing in price due in large part to the engine being so versatile. WA is pushing a bill to do away with 100LL, these $45k drink anything engines will be in hot(er) demand before to long.

An old bush mechanic told me to spray the beads with belt dressing' for fan belts' it's sticky and helps the tire from spinning and clipping valve stems or coming off the bead when running low pressure.
These are tubeless but still very useful info. I have tubes in my little bush tires and we all can benefit from sticky beads on low pressured tires. Thanks for the tip

I've wanted a Kitfox ever since they were first introduced. I may still get one, but right now I have a Challenger 2 on amphibious floats, and will have that in the air this summer. The cost of airplanes has sky rocketed, and putting an insured value on my airplane will be an interesting exercise. Cheers from Winnipeg.

Whoa, nicely done. Honestly as he was talking about all the mods I was thinking wow, "on a budget" must be relative. I suppose its on someone's budget, but not mine 😂, but only $35k, that's pretty impressive!
My buddy here in AK has an Aerotrek A220, 912uls that he put an Edge fuel injection on. 650# empty, 1250 gross, 100 hp b4 injection, climbs 1,000+ fpm on 25 or 27s ?. 3.5 gal/hr mogas. 120mph cruise.Neat plane!

Older beat up Kitfox 4 cost 65-80k used flying now days 3 years ago could get one in for 20-40k. I have seen some that were wrecked, or projects those are 20-40k you still have to rebuild them. Anything with kitfox name on them are expensive. Check out Aeropup it's like a kitfox 4 kit for $18k new
I've seen piper pacers on barnstormers for 10k that are flyable, in good condition with engine life. They have a STOL kit that transforms them as well. Longer wings, bigger gear legs and tires. Some of that might not even be necessary to have a formidable budget bushplane. But as far as kitfoxes, Ty's specs are sick.

That was a great video. I really like the design of the old KiFox. I have a friend that had I believe a number 4 with the similar color scheme like yours. He always had issues with the narrow stock gear. It was a ground loop monster. He finally sold it; I was lucky enough to have flown with him. It was a handful...The Kit Fox is one of my favorite aircraft design.

Speaking of tires, I work with the guy that invented Alaska Bushwheels. He sold it quite a while ago however
I was wondering if someone adapted a 300hp Evinrude outboard power head. 🤪 Many years ago someone competed in the Baja off-road races doing just that. Engine was lighter, more powerful- and more thirsty. Needed a radiator, obviously. Much like a 2 stroke snowmobile engine. This seems like a much better idea though.

Good morning from Minnesota! Great episode!!
My model 4 1200 has the same engine set up but weighs 585 empty. I’m still running bungee gear and nanco 20” tires. Performance is great even at 6000msl field elevation. I would like to upgrade the gear one day to the TK1’s or Acme black ops and run the desser 27’s, but for now it does just fine.
Im looking for a model 4. All Ive flown is a 172. Are they as stable in brisk wind? What about the 1050?

Trent, I enjoyed your video on the Evinrude. I know of a Kitfox IV kit that my close friend bought 20 years ago. He got married and his bride put the brakes on the airplane. He passed away unexpectedly a little over a year ago. I am trying to find someone that would be interested in purchasing it for a fair price. I believe its complete but know motor.

My father has a escapade with a rotax. On full lotus floats. He had a engine issue and made a emergency landing. Plane is now for sale for a cheap price.
My dad built a Kitfox too (we had to get some help as it had lots of issues with the early kits). It's still flying, iirc it was a MK2/3 - I designed the paint scheme etc as an in joke (it looked like a red arrows scheme). Sadly it wasn't as powerful at this one - awesome performance btw 👍😊✌️

He mentioned that it does 105 to 108, is that knots or miles per hour? I had a Kitfox IV Speedster with an 80 hp Rotax. I used to fly it along the intercoastal in north Florida near Jacksonville. Great airplane. I took her to Oshkosh as well as Long Island. Great cross country airplane specially with the 28 gallon fuel tank.

Very nice plane! Every time I see a flying video my wish to learn flying grows a little more. But at the moment I can only afford simming. If I had lots of money I would like to get the new Sling HW, it looks so great in JPs videos but that costs closer to 200 000.
Hi Andre. Don’t wait untill you think you can afford your own plane. Go to your closest club or school and learn to fly in the cheapest plane. Once you have your PPL, hire and fly. It is still the cheapest way to fly and you can have lots of fun without worrying about maintenance, insurance, storage. It is better to fly than to dream about it! Just my opinion.

I'm really not sure why, but I have always liked the LOOK of Tye's plane. It doesn't look like your's Trent (after all the mods you've made to your's) So I didn't even know what brand or model of airplane it was. But after watching one of Jonas' old vlogs where you, Jonas', and Tye were all out flying around (I think you were up in Jonas' neck of the woods...Idaho.) together, I asked Jonas'what Tye's plane was, and he said it was a model 4, Kit Fox.
I'm glad you made this vid and pointed out the performance and cost of this plane, just incase I win the lottery or the MONEY TREE seeds that I've been planting all over my yard ACTUALLY DO produce some DOLLAR BILLS ! ! ! .... Actually I bought the HUNDRED DOLLAR bill variety, so after a couple more years, when these GUARANTEED "Fast Growing" trees have given me enough to get my OWN plane, I will be comin' out to yer "neck" of Nevada, to check out the new "Home Hanger" and if'n it ain't quite done by then, you can count on me fer all the FREE LABOR you might want ! ....and WARN Hailey that I wanna stay for dinner !

Why the name "Evinrude" Am around the outboard industry and knew Ralph Evinrude through the test center in Stuart Florida. Interesting name for an airplane!
