Before Toxic’s reduced distribution, it being possible for almost any Pokemon to use suggested that almost any Pokemon had the ability to produce venomous substance to inflict onto enemies
yeah i'm fine with the distribution of toxic getting nerfed, it never made sense to me why it was a universal TM, but now thematically it makes more sense to be almost exclusively learned by poison-types with a few exceptions, since with poison types it makes sense as they are injecting some kind of nasty venom into the target
I like how even game freak realized the toxic distribution nerf was a bit too much, with Pokémon like Tentacruel losing access in Gen 8 and regaining access in Gen 9

this nerf on toxic's distribution makes toxic look like a weird move. it is 100% accurate for most pokemon and 90% for a minority of pokemon. I wonder why not go one step further and make always hit the target.
Funny how most people felt that Toxic being learnt by nearly every single Pokemon in the past was weird and nonsensical, but things like Substutite and Protect make sense to some degree. I wouldn't be surprised the person that created Toxic also created the other two since they all three seem to share a theme.
I thought so too, but after it was brought back as a TM in gen 9 DLC, it actually got buffed. Knock Off will appear in the distribution buff video that I am already working on!

honestly the fact they almost wiped scald off the face of the earth sucks so much, i'd love running scald iron bundle (but i can see how that could be really broken)
Considering how none of the other water/ice types could ever learn Scald, I doubt Bundle would've been able to even with its distribution from past gens maintained.
Breeding and Picnics are the same learnset, Egg Moves. The mechanic with mirror herbs is the substitute for a mechanic in gen 8 where egg moves could be transferred between Pokemon of the same species in a pokemon nursery as long as one had the egg move and the other had an empty slot. You csn farm egg moves this way from Pokemon in the Grand Underground in BDSP and Glowing pokemon in the overworld of Sword and Shield, which can know egg moves naturally and enables, or even entirely avoids, otherwise impossible or annoying breeding chains.
Picnic moves do not involve breeding though, which is why I felt they were different enough to be separate. Originally, I did have them as the same method though.
I think a big one you missed is Confide. It used to be a TM that a considerable amount of Pokémon could learn, and now it's only learnable by the Impidimp line.
A very big one is heal bell , everyone lost it except blissey line and chimeco. Aromatherapy is just removed. I've no idea why they have done this change. I feel superpower also has a distribution loss as some pokemon I care about lost it (honchkrow , donphan , mamoswine, ...) . Some mons like scizor and breloom lost it but got close combat but not every mon is as fortunate.
I thought the Picnic method was just another way to get egg moves, including the ones that would be impossible to get, such as Murrow being unable to get Punishment as an egg move, since only the female-only Mandabuzz line shared an egg group and learned the move
It is! It doesn't involve breeding at all though, so I felt it was different enough to be counted as a different method. Originally, I actually had them as the same method.
These moves really got bad Rock types or pokemon really need rock polish as speed control when they're so slow. Toxic getting nerfed distribution kinda make sense but NOT necessary to do when many defensive/tanky pokemons relies on toxic's poison damage. Roost is needed for flying types that need some of way to heal themselves. Scald probably got it the worst since losing on good stab is bad, imagine not being able to use your stab/best attack, the distribution nerf is bad of nerfing scald as move imo like why don't they lower the burn chance? I mean most fire types don't even have the same burn chance as scald well it's the only high BP water move without downside like surf hitting your ally or hydro pump low accuracy? Smh
Idk why they reduced Rock Polish’s distribution, but for Toxic, Roost, & Scald, it’s extremely straight forward, being a nerf to Stall as a play style. Toxic, Scald, & general healing moves were the bread and butter of a standard Stall team, and over the years the play style had become very oppressive and not fun to play against. Toning back stuff like the move distribution helps keep it in check without killing it.
Wow, Scald was in the thumbnail, and it was the first one he talked about. It's unfortunate that that's even impressive (in a good way) but nowadays with how click-baity algorithm-maxing everything is, i feel its rare to see someone get to the point like that
