Good day Ashley! Loving it! A lot of people complimented you on your Tom Sawyer reaction! More Rush songs: Subdivisions, Freewill, Red Barchetta, YYZ, 2112, Working Man, Closer To The Heart, Xanadu,
Welcome to the Rush family! We old-timers love seeing people discover and enjoy the band we followed for decades. This is actually the song that made me fall in love with the band. It's inspired by the drummers' discomfort with the trappings of fame; Neil was an introvert and was never entirely comfortable with the attention that came with being hailed as arguably the greatest drummer in rock music.
This was a very personal song for Neil. He was an introvert as I am, which meant that too much socialization could drain his mental energy and he needed time to himself to recharge; he also struggled with anxiety issues stemming from a near-drowning incident at the age of 10. The "fish eye lens" refers to the bubble in which many celebrities find themselves, where everyone wants to meet them, their every move is closely orchestrated and closely scrutinized, and they just want to live a normal life like everyone else; the line "one must put up barriers to keep oneself intact" refers to how he needed to set boundaries to protect his privacy and mental energy; and the line "I can't pretend a stranger is a long awaited friend" refers to how he avoided large events where he'd be expected to "make nice" with a bunch of strangers, preferring to focus his mental energy on nurturing close, meaningful relationships with his bandmates, family and close friends. Another song that highlighted his focus on meaningful relationships is "Entre Nous" from their 1980 album Permanent Waves, a song that they performed live on their Snakes and Arrows Tour. Rest in peace Professor. 🥁 🥁 🐐 🐐
About as well summarized as I've heard. I would just add that I believe this song was written as a response to criticism he had been getting in the wake of their 2112 success, that he wasn't making himself available to fans. This was his answer, and it must of shut the critics up, because I don't remember any criticism after it was released.
"celebrities" are demons... I sure of hell would never want to meet any of those narcissists. To hell with them. They couldn't care less about you. In fact, they despise you. They think of you as peasants. But go ahead, keep idolizing false idols and demons.
Glad you're posting Rush. I saw them 27 times going back to the '70's finishing with their final Toronto show June 19 2015, and their shows are dearly missed. RIP Neil. Check out "The Garden" live.
Great reaction, others below have made some great recommendations such as Subdivisions, Freewill, Red Barchetta, YYZ, 2112, Working Man, Closer To The Heart, Xanadu, and I would add Vital Signs, Bravado and Time Stand Still.
these guys are jumping back and forth between 2/4, 3/4, and 7/8 time - hard to tap a toe in time, but it does kinda stagger the mind in a pleasant way - they're rocking in all directions
I love your reaction... You really understand how beautiful this classic rock is and you make me feel young again like I'm listening to it back in the day with my girlfriend thank you for that❤❤❤
"All the worlds a stage. All the men and women merely players." Is actually from a speech written by William Shakespeare. Other than that, they are brilliant song writers and musicians.
@@favouriteislandgirl they start off playing reggae, there's a section in their song The Spirit Of Radio where they do as well and on Roll the bones they rap lol
As a Canadian 🇨🇦 rush is my favorite band ...for other Canadian content you should watch snow- informer, you're one of the few that would understand him lol
Rush a great band but you should have a look at the band YES.Yes are a precursor and a inspiration to bands like Rush.Yes are an English progressive rock band formed in London in 1968 by lead singer Jon Anderson, bassist Chris Squire, for a good taste of the band have a look at the song Roundabout. But if you have the time young lady have a look at Yes - Awaken - Live in Birmingham 2003.I think it is a masterpiece. It is a bit long but excellent. And it is in Birmingham England aka as Brum.Thank you and stay safe young lady.
Girl, your VOICE is too far in the background - kind of 'echo'. I think you need to be closer to the Microphone. With the accent, it's hard to hear and understand you. Love you, though!!!
Thank you . New studio space lots of echoes . You are welcome to help the Island with the equipment we need for the walls so it can be more suiting to you .. thank you so much appreciate the love

My favorite Rush guitar solo, the held note brings a tear every time
It's a beauty indeed. Lifeson admitted it's his favorite as well.

Just being so delighted and happy to see the young generation get into real music
Rush, the most skilled, talented, professional, creative and visionary, not to mention fearless band, ever.

If you wouldn't mind a Rush song about 3-4 times longer than the three you have heard so far, I recommend Rush's prog-rock symphony, 'The Camera Eye.'

I remember the Geddy interview with this video and he said how he had at last found his voice
