It is so incredibly funny how so many people think this is a "RWBY fans can't take criticism" video. Like. Lol. Lmao even. I am annoyingly critical of things I think RWBY has fumbled. I have a whole video on it, and sure, not everyone commenting about it has seen that, but that just means they're speaking without knowing so that's telling on themselves more than anything. Anyway, I'm critical of V9 fumbling by not making Ruby and Jaune discuss Penny, I think the Watts death comes across as an afterthought with how unceremonious it is, I think the Faunus storyline is bad, I think Yang not having a V1 story despite being a title character while Jaune gets a V1 story is not the way it should've been paced. I have plenty of RWBY criticism. It's just based on things the show, y'know, *actually did*. As opposed to Blaber's nonsense. "They didn't explain the differences between magic and Semblances and whatnot" when V6 explains that magic existed as a gift from the gods but without the gods present, second humanity couldn't use it, outside of Oz keeping his magic and giving some to the maidens and the Branwen twins, whereas everyone else only has remnants of the previous magic as Semblances and Aura. You can't call it criticism when the shit being said is just outright untrue. Guess bro had method acting for Jinxy the way he presents things as what they aren't. And everyone that got fooled by it is now mad that someone decided to say it's stupid. I guess it's also worth noting I went years without seeing the video, so it's not like this is some thing I've been holding onto like some people think just because the original was ages ago. I just never watched it until right before making this because as soon as I watched it I realized "Wow. This fucking sucks." and said why. But by all means, if you wanna keep being mad I called out your fav and projecting that onto me while commenting, go ahead. You're making yourselves look bad while giving me engagement, so it only hurts you really. (Also I never did bring it up but it's also very funny bro got blacklisted like two weeks after I made the video, good riddance.) EDIT: I made one of the end card videos be set to go to my RWBY criticisms video, so anyone who does make it to the end that has the "RWBY fans can't take criticism" mindset doesn't have an excuse of not knowing the video exists, even if they don't watch it. The fact it exists it all is proof enough that mindset is dogwater.
@@migusta. his talking about how rwby has its flaws and jelloapocalypse takes the flaw to full on insult to his eyes and doesn't appreciate or understand rwby. And that people who hate him for calling out jello should just forget about his hatred towards jello I think
Tried to watch this video in good faith but cannot get past @2:38 where you claim this show has some of the most well thought out arcs in media. Please, please, please expand your library and if it's a decent size that encompasses multiple forms of media, please go back and take a critical look of other far more impressive character arcs.
I know I'm a little late to the party, but I do want to say one thing. I'm honestly not sure if you joking or not, but it does kinda seem arrogant of you to claim his points are "falsehoods" so many time when you disagree with him. There are some various aspects that do make sense to call it that, such as him acting like being added in at the last second(despite showing literally one of the earliest characters added in the show) is a bad thing, but stuff like whether or not the main characters got enough focus is much more subjective taste than it is objective fact. I personally agree with you that they got a lot of subtle clues and character building during the early seasons, but other either don't catch on to them, or just don't consider those clues. This is me writing while 3 minutes in, so I am fully prepared to come back and apologize. I just needed to get that off my chest.
Now I'm coming back, yay. Something I do want to talk about though is it seems you seem to really lean too far on some of the humor of the show. Not that his critiques aren't awful, mind you, but rather than certain aspects you jumped down his throat on, that were actually pretty good as humor, such as the scene between Qrow and Ruby. Even if there isn't any actual useful critique there, its still funny. I am definitely frustrated how much of his video was either memes the haters sprung up, or just outright misinformation. Stuff like the dust robbery and magic/semblances I think you nailed spot on, exactly what I was feeling when I watched this. Though I am going to say that some people don't like feeling like they have to watch side-content in order to understand the story. Which by itself is false, considering the story is still understandable, and many of the topics in the WoR come up in the actual story, but plenty of people fall for that trick and think the show is forcing them to watch side-content all because people started spreading lies about how important it was. Yeah, honestly not sure where he got the idea the story doesn't go anywhere for 40 episodes. I mean, I could understand that if he at least put the background of the house in V5 up, but he didn't even put in the effort for that. Ehh... I would caution against saying anybody else thinking V1 is better than later seasons has genuinely bad taste. Not only is that kind of triggering for me, having heard that argument so many times in regards to RWBY itself, with others just saying I have bad taste, but also that it removes any possibility of humans being different from each other. We aren't robots, so someone might genuinely like V1 better than the later volumes. Someone might like the animations in V1-3 better than 4-9, and that's not a mark against them, its just a sign of different taste. As long as no one is trying to force either opinion on each other outside of debates, then everything should be fine. Now him saying 4-5 are garbage on the other hand, isn't actually a sign of taste. Its a sign of his willingness to force others into his own opinion, or his own lack of knowledge. The first one because critics don't use a word like garbage unless they want to leave a bad impression of the show in their viewers minds, even negative criticisms don't do this, and the second one because he might feel so strongly about it that he is failing to realize other people have different emotions and feelings. I am going to say, I don't think Ozpin was ever as Grey as people made him out to be. Your right in what he did, but at the same time that isn't really enough in my eyes to justify him being this sort of "I manipulate everyone" type of person, rather more like a more toned down version of Ironwood that is a pacifist instead of a warmonger. Oh look he makes the classic mistake of thinking Wasted potential actually means anything in regards RWBY. I mean, I guess its wasted potential that they weren't all dogs, huh? You are absolutely justified for tearing into him there. And once again I see a classic case. Thinking that Blake and Yang killing Adam together means that they are fully committed into a relationship, so now lets go photoshop Adam out of a picture and lengthen the swor... wati a minute! Yeah, people like Jello really overreacted to that scene, as if Bumblebee would ever bee confirmed that early(*whistles as I ignore the BLMB song that CRWBY reacted to suspiciously fast in announcing the song isn't canon). Yeah I have no idea how he got the voice acting role.
Goes for the over exaggerated comedy video with an unserious tone instead of the other really popular video that actually has the goal of criticizing Rwby. Also you do know that Jello has made other “this is basically” videos, right. You’re acting as if he only made this one because he was salty when that just clearly not true. If you’re gonna swing, don’t go for the low hanging fruit. Also what’s with Rwby fans and using overly worded insults with a bitter “I’m better than you” tone. You just end up sounding like what the fandom so desperately tries to convince everyone that the “critics” are.
2:35 "-some of the most well thought out characters arcs in media?" Are you talking about a different show, or...? RWBY isn't the worst thing ever and it's certainly not the crime against humanity some act like it is, but I'll never understand calling the writing anything remotely close to great, much less very good. Horrific pacing, last minute additions that aren't properly explored, and power systems that aren't fully developed and thus have significant overlap and a paper thin distinctions all contribute to the glaring problem that is the show's lack of consistency and planning. That they blew up their funds for V9 on an entirely new area, set of characters, and expensive and complex model that we're likely to never see again is further proof of just how much of a mess RWBY is.
1:45 That one line describes why most RWBY *"reviews"* are bad. They intentionally leave out context of the scene for the sake of a bad joke or to prove a really bad argument... Sometimes both... For example Judgement Critter's *"RWBY are the villains"* video says that the heroes brought over a Relic that attracted Grimm over, which caused some damage... While that's true, she *intentionally* leaves out the fact that none of them KNEW that the relic could attract Grimm until AFTER something bad happens, which is why they're so mad at Ozpin & asked the dude to turn off the weapons & separate the train... That's obviously not the only example, believe me, but if i listed all of them here, I'd literally be writing a light novel at this point Edit: 11:28 Another good point right there, but to answer your first question? Clicks... Lots & lots & lots of clicks... & To make our lives as miserable as possible because the jackasses who take this crap seriously never leave us the hell alone. Also, that comedy argument people pull just don't work. You can't say comedy is subjective & use that to defend people from criticism, especially when said video reeks of bad-faith commentary & misinformation
I don't get the need to do that. There is plenty to actually criticize about RWBY without doing this. Why does Yang, a title character, get no story in Volume 1 but Jaune does? Why did Mettle exist out of universe but not get an in-universe explanation that would clear up how it works, especially as just viewing Ironwood without Mettle is a lot less confusing? The entire White Fang arc. I could go on, I have a whole video about my own criticisms. There are so many actually valid points to criticize and make arguments against that it is baffling to come up with something that just did not happen and act like it's a point against the show.
@@AlanomalyOfficial Most people like to be whiney bitches while trying to sound smart, that's why & Yeah, Yang getting shafted in V1 despite being one of the main 4 kinda blows
Its rooted in a combo of factors, off the cuff is the fact most of them just dislike the show and want others to dislike it, but a lot of the reasons they dislike it (Women, queer rep, de-constructive) are not actually bad things or are at worst neutral. Then there's the fact that negativity is easy, much easier to break a thing than to build on it, and telling your audience "You are so smart for hating 'bad thing' you are the cleverest for hating 'bad thing'" is much easier than doing real work. Finally, its easier to make snarky jokes at something's expense than it is to actually be funny. @@AlanomalyOfficial
@@AlanomalyOfficial NGL, some of his other "So This Is Basically" videos are just as bad, ig not worse than this RWBY one he did. The Fire Emblem one in particular is worst than i remembered due to how many errors it has.
proud of you for keeping up the good fight of "hey rwby is and always was good actually". Gets so much harder to engage with the bad faith community in TYoOL (the year of our Luigi) 2024
Excellent work here, I am sorry that you are getting so many trolls and disingenuous commentators but I hope you know this was a really well put together and appreciated video. The fact so much RWBY 'critique' and Jello was 'critiquing' given he was pissed at being passed over for a VA job at the time, relies on exaggeration, misrepresentation or lies is not humorous so much as vexing at best. So yeah, thanks for your work!
Yeah been hearing that a lot, where y’all getting this information he was pissed about being passed over so he made this? Or is it just an assumption people have made?
You mean besides the fact he intentionally revealed a huge spoiler and claimed it was "Obvious" even though he only knew it cos he auditioned for and then didn't get a job, along with generally expressed a huge amount of contempt for the show? Seriously, I've seen his other videos on stuff like this and they usually at least tried to keep the facts straight, this one did not.@@9TrixieTurner6
In all fairness, Gen:Lock did make it to Toonami. Season 2 still blew chunks but al the same, credit where it's due. I think this video is illustative of a lot of RWBY hate, the RWDE especially: It's a calvacade of Gish Galloping, shoving out point after point about their position and not letting the other side get an inch. It being unable to hear out why people like it in places one doesn't and thereby learning why this show has actually lasted as long as it has. It's making videos that take the old school Nostalgia Critic approach of making a thing you don't like to be dumber than it actually might be. Because the dumb jokes will get a laugh out of those who feel that same as you and get those sweet, sweet clicks from those who hate them with comments a plenty. A while back, there was a longer but similar video essay in parts called "An Overly Long Tirade of Fairy Tail" by Craftsdrawf with a similar sort of meanspiritedness and distortion of certain points. However, he would later create a tirade about the tirade where he dismantled points he didn't agree with or found to be outright misinformation. He regretted how it helped taint the discussion around Fairy Tail and made new videos to basically call himself out. That's something that a lot of the RWDE could stand to do. Yet as long as there's a sense of community in demonizing RWBY or profit to be had in CinemaSinning RWBY, it's unlikely that they'll at least consider a sabatical. Like I cannot imagine slogging through what I myself may find migraine inducing even for money.
Yeah, sorry but the “It’s just a joke, bro” doesn’t immunize your takes from being scrutinized. One can question how said scrutinizing is conducted in response but the whole “just a joke” counterclaim died out after 2010. Clearly Volume 5 has a lot to love along with its rough patches because it was followed by four whole volumes. Volumes that saw the mistakes of before and strive to rectify. If RWBYhas gone downhill, how is it that it’s still afloat AND has many advocating for future installment. As for fight: Blake and Yang vs Adam Ironwood vs Arthur The chase with the Hound Ironwood vs. Winter Team RWBY vs the Red Prince’s pieces Team RWBY vs Curious Cat Look them up to see the battles and how they stack up. Likable. What does that word even mean? I like a lot of characters who are messy and deeply complicated like most humans in life. They’re not exactly people I would like to hang out with but are fascinating in the yarn they weave. Sure some characters are fine enough as vanilla good guys or cheesy bad guys but even they will be some of my favorite if that vanilla ice cream have some creative toppings. And RWBY delivers on that front, especially in later volumes. Adam in his ironically human displays of abuse of power and of Blake’s love he once earned. Ironwood on his slippery slope into a tyrant with all the power of Atlas and the paranoia he had back in Volume 2. Cinder and her hard knock life, essentially asking if the Fairy Godmother was a cop AND if Cinderella just snapped. How even now she’s under Salem’s heel just as she was under the Mistress’s. Ruby Rose’s emotional repression exploding in Volume 9. Good god, the tea scene… I like them. They are likable to me. They’re clearly unlikable to you. However, neither term in question is able to be as broadly applicable as you make it out to be.
5:58, he's not saying that side content is bad, he's saying that the reason World of Remnant exists is because the writers failed to explore those concepts and ideas in the show, and so if you want to understand more about the world of the show, as a viewer, you have to go out of your way to watch a whole other series, or else certain things won't make sense later on. They even have World of Remnant episodes in between RWBY episodes on Crunchyroll because of this.
You really don't *need* to watch WoR in order for things to make sense. Things that are significantly important to the main story are in the main show enough to where you could just watch the series without them, i.e. you don't need to watch the SDC WoR video in order for anything about the SDC in the show to make sense. It's not a necessary add-on, it's just additional elaboration.
I didn't watch world of Remnant for years and understood everything. If I ever had questions, they were questions that were set up by the story for me to ask.
@@lustigername9377to be faor they do mess up when it comes to putting in information. Like not saying what a semblance was untill ep 14. Lucky for all of ys it wasn't hard to understand amd suoer lucky for mw i didnt know magic was a thing in the shiw untill after this video years ago
Everything wrong with your points. 1. "Mispronouncing rwby". Jello mispronounces the names of every show he does in this series. The fact this joke bothers you so much tells me how petty this whole video will be. You compare him to cinemasins several times, but honestly your nitpicking and nagging is much more like cinemasins' content in my opinion. 2. "rwby and Ruby aren't confusing." Volume 3 episode 1 Ruby Rose herself says "and yes before you ask it does cause a lot of confusion."" when talking to Summer's grave about Team Rwby. 3. "last minute additions aren't bad". I would argue all of your points of things they've added at the last minute ARE bad. But clearly this is a subjective idea. But you don't seem to understand subjective ideas since you're tearing apart a 5 minute long comedy animation because you don't like their subjective takes on the show. speaking of: 4. Brendan has bad taste because he doesn't like my favorite waifu Blake,. Everyone has opinions. Just because they're not like yours doesn't mean you have to throw a fit over it. It makes the fandom incredibly not fun when people get pissed because someone doesn't like your favorite character as much as you do. 5. "just watch the World of remnant!" Having to do homework to understand a show is always bad. If it's important to know, it should be in the show proper. 6. "side characters". Remember when the show became all about Jaune's transcripts and Team rwby did nothing important? Remember when Pyrrha got to learn all about the maidens and team rwby didn't for another whole volume? Remember when Raven and Vernal got to fight Cinder in the vault while Team rwby fought jobbers? Remember when Penny and Winter got to do the important maiden plot line while Team rwby still fought more jobbers? Side characters take center stage all the time in rwby. 7. "You're complaining just to complain, You're being miserable on purpose". This is one of rwby fandoms worst traits. "critiques aren't real, you're just being miserable for no reason!" Listen, you don't have to agree with every complaint someone has, but to try and invalidate their critiques is pretty scummy. Invalidating ANYONES thoughts and opinions is scummy no matter what. Just because you don't agree with them, doesn't mean they're being disingenuous with their own opinions about the show. It perpetuates this idea that Rwby fans truly think the show is flawless, and all criticism is just lies being made by people who are akin to Disney villains. It makes the whole fandom look obsessive and is a big reason people avoid talking about the show in general. 8. "After the fall focuses on side characters" You seem to have completely misunderstood the critique Brendan is even saying here. He's not saying he'd rather the show focused on side characters. He's saying it introduced too many side characters and gave them no development. That's not "wanting the side characters to be center screen all the time". Lots of shows have tons of side characters who are still interesting and developed, WHILE STILL keeping the main protagonists at the core of the conflict. Jello is saying the show introduced a bunch of characters for no reason, but it's likely because none of the characters, not even the main heroes get any substantial time to develop. 9. "fights and music" This is purely subjective. Don't treat your opinions as "more correct" than others. That's what makes them opinions after all. To imply your personal tastes in the fights/music is somehow superior is extremely petty. Your next point about animation quality is the same. Just because you think it looks good, doesn't mean someone else is objectively wrong if they think it looks bad. This whole video is you being angry about opinions. 10. "Remnants magic system isn't confusing". Yes it is. At a glance it's impossible to tell what's dust, a semblance, or magic. 11. "Roman stole the dust". You say his stealing was "halted in the beginning of volume 2". but he had already "stolen every speck of dust in the kingdom". even if he wasn't stealing more, he still had tons of dust on hand that seemingly gets forgotten by the writers. And your assumption that the dust is used in the train explosion is just that: An ASSUMPTION. There's absolutely nothing in the show that confirms or denies this theory about the dust. And your "partial red herring" thing makes no sense, and I've literally never even heard of that one. You're confusing your headcanon with the show proper. 12. World of Remnant. Yes. Hiding important pieces of lore in side content IS bad. A viewer shouldn't have to EVER engage with ANY supplemental material to understand the important elements of the show. Side content should just exist for people who want a deeper dive into the world, but World of Remnant hides critically important information in it's many different supplemental side content. 13. "Chibi isn't good" It's truly hilarious. You've spent this whole video ranting and raving about how Brendon doesn't like the show as much as you. And this 1 biggest complement about how much he likes Chibi still manages to piss you off. Damned if you do damned if you don't. 14. "Implying the story isn't going anywhere." It took 3 volumes to learn about maidens. 4 volumes for the actual living heroes to learn about maidens, then learn about the idea of relics. 5 volumes to see our first relic. 6 volumes to learn what 1 of the relics do. Yeah. The plot chugs forward at a crawl. 15. Being upset someone likes a different season than the other seasons. Literally what even is this point. You're so desperate to be pissy about every point in Brendan's video. Oh no. He likes volume 1 better than the dumpster fire that's volume 5. How dare he have an opinion. You should definitely take it as a personal offence. (This is sarcasm btw) 16. Ozpin. Name me 1 "evil" or "morally grey" thing Ozpin has ever done. You say "he's selfish" but that's not a morally grey thing, and is also something he developed out of like, hundreds of years before Ruby was ever even born. You talk about the huntsmen academies as if they in general are a morally grey concept. Tell me, do you think police academies are also morally grey? How about joining the military? He's not forcing people to enlist in his schools, and people who choose to pursue a dangerous profession are not "morally grey" people. 17. Qrow wasn't the one who was upset about being turned into a bird. Brendan voiced Ruby and Qrow in this scene. He probably just couldn't get someone to voice Raven to get this joke from her perspective instead. Side note, during your incredibly long rant about this part, you say "you have the media literacy of a geriatric snail". 1. Ablest. 2. Constantly insulting someone just because you don't agree with their opinions makes you look like a bully with incredibly thin skin. There's still a person on the other side of the screen you know. 18. "objectively incorrect". Goes on to talk about a subjective opinion. lol. 19. "it's funny you landed a voice role in their show." It's almost like roosterteeth has a better sense of humor and can handle incredibly light criticism of their show better than you can. 20. OmG you're TryIng To SpoIl PenNy!" Got any proof? Any proof that he knew Penny would be coming back? What an incredibly weird thing to imply. Do you think voice actors who are auditioning for roles get told huge plot related spoilers while they're still auditioning? 21. Weiss and Torchwick's ghost. Weiss is 19. 22. Genlock and nomad. Lots of people watched both, but again you're missing the point of Brendan's gag here. He's referencing Roosterteeth's end slates on TH-cam where someone who works at RT still try to direct the viewer to watching more of their content. He's picking Genlock and nomad because those 2 shows in particular got loads of attention while Rwby was airing, especially volume 6. Genlock trailers played before ever single episode, and there was a teaser for Nomad at the very end of of the volume. 23. Why voice a character if you think rwby is garbage? Because clearly he doesn't think it's garbage. People can have critiques of something and still enjoy watching it. It's actually incredibly common, and rwbys fandom insisting otherwise is so weird to me. You're telling me you've NEVER had ANY critiques about ANYTHING you've watched? No matter how big or small? 24. Why did RT even hire you? Because this video is actually pretty dang mild. A lot of his critiques are things most people have also talked about, including several things the writers/directors/actors have brought up in various DVD commentaries of the volumes. You only seem to think this vid is so egregious because you think opinions are objective somehow. 25. "The show has no flaws, you just didn't get it" lol rwby fans in a nutshell.
There's something incredibly funny about the running theme of this comment that implies I have ever insinuated RWBY to be flawless when all I did was point out things that just are incorrect in this video with some cheeky ones like the Blake point. My guy, I criticize RWBY all the time. I have a whole video on my criticisms of the show, except they're not things like "the writers forgot to do this thing except they didn't and it's actually just me not paying attention but it's definitely the writer's fault" because I actually pay attention to the show.
@@AlanomalyOfficial No, you implied opinions were somehow "incorrect". That implies you think the only "correct" opinions are ones that aren't critical of rwby. Hence: you imply you think it's flawless. Your delivery doesn't change for "cheeky ones like Blake". so it sounds like you're being dead serious the whole time. I am a woman, please don't call me "my guy". Lol you expect me to watch every video on your channel ever? And again "not paying attention" your trying to deflect or negate criticism by implying the person wasn't genuine with their critiques.
Well said Critters. I agree whole heartedly. Especially #25. That seems to be every RWBY apologists mindset. Hence they can't take criticism very well.
I still dont understand what's so confusing about Dust, Semblances and Magic. Dust is a material that can do elemental stuff and may be used as fuel or ammo. Semblances are _a_ unique ability each charcater has, usually either reflecting or informing their personality. Some may be more versatile than others but it's clear its a them thing. Magic is Magic. a tier above either doing basically whatever the fuck it wants to because it's Magic. Only one I'll give you int hat regard is Scorching Caress being a heat based semblance while Cinder usually also uses fire-themed magic and fire dust in weapons/her clothes. Screw you Cinder.
bless, and i can't stress this enough, you. this video has been sorely needed for years and i am so, SO thrilled that it exists. my only real critism is that it could've been longer and gone into more depth about just how egregious some of his points were, particularly concerning the 'bumbleby was pandering' one, but i understand if you wanted/needed to keep it at a certain length. anyway, incredible work overall. we love a good rwbycrit roast.

Telling someone who constantly criticizes the show that their rebuttal to takes that can be disproven by just paying any amount of attention to the show is proof of the fandom "not taking criticism" is certainly a take that exists. 2:45 "some of the most well thought out character arcs in media"? seriously? it was like two minutes ago you were defending the writers adding stuff in at the last minute, which is the opposite of thinking them out. also, the comment was about how the main characters get sidelined so that the show can instead introduce or focus on the side characters, who dont add enough to the story or main characters to be worth the screen time. you know, like how neptune was in a completely pointless love triangle that never gets addressed but takes up the majority of like, 3 episodes near a finale. then you mention some books, which again give too much focus to the side characters that ultimately do not matter, and are themselves something added in in the last minute, and not "well thought out" 3:40 hes not complaining about the fights, hes praising them, the complaint comes from the music being unfitting and distracting, which is a fair opinion that some people can and do have 5:00 ok but like, what is the actual difference between a semblance and magic, and why should we, or the characters, care? the complaint isnt that "semblances arent magic and thats confusing" its "the differences between semblances and magic are unexplained and therefore confusing" 5:40 i recently re-watched a bit of rwby, and i dont remember the train being loaded with dust at all. like, it does kinda make sense when you said it, that thats what they used the dust for, but it is not explained or shown to the audience at all. it also doesnt help that theres a story going around the internet that the whole "dust theft" plotline was actually dropped by the writers, but if the dust really was used in the train them im going to use that rumor as evidence of how poorly communicated it was, since so many people didnt pick up on it and assumed it was dropped 7:56 no his return to remnant was forced upon him, regardless of what specifically he wanted, with the task given to him being to save the world. and the point was about the show not SHOWING him being morally grey, rather than just "hes done bad things in the past trust me bro" 9:38 qrow treats his stock in life, including being granted the ability to turn into a bird, as if he signed up for something without fully understanding what was going on and now that he does understand he regrets everything, the show itself frames him, and the ability to turn into a bird, as something bad that should not have happened, its actually a lot of what the show does to try and make you think ozpin is morally grey. the fact that the ability to turn into a bird isnt actually given any sort of weight or consequences counters this entire plot thread. we're told something bad happened, but see nothing but positives as a result of it happening 10:12 racism. i dont need to say anything other than that, really, but i will. the show actively refuses to engage in any meaningful way with the idea that the world they created is racist 10:20 th-cam.com/video/5NoieBLN588/w-d-xo.html 10:50 yeah... its not spoining if he has the exact same info that everyone else does, then its just a guess, or a throwaway bit because he needed something for the cover of vol7 like he had for the others. unless you think RT tells all of their bit cameo voices major plot details for upcoming seasons that arent out yet 11:00 so is miles explicitly writing his self insert OC into a relationship with a 16 year old girl, or kerry explicitly writing his own self insert OC into a love triangle with two 16 year olds in conclusion, you have a lot of points calling him out for being wrong about the show, but at the same time you either misunderstand the actual complaints hes trying to make, or just flat out get things about the show wrong. you also over correct and lean way too hard into defending the show, and it gives off the idea that the show doesnt have any flaws or things to complain about at all, regardless of if thats your intent or not. and this can genuinely hurt a show far more than just being wrong about it, if the people watching a show pretend that is has no flaws, then it cant work on and correct those flaws to improve going forwards
Its kind of hilarious that you do all these time stamps but literally the first one shows you did not pay ay attention to what was said given they outlined how something introduced into the writing stages late can be utilized and built upon to excellent effect. Thank you. Like, I can understand some grievances and being annoyed at how certain things are done. Sure, some things can be confusing when they first hit his ear, but like...I don't think RWBY is a "digest it all in a first watchthrough no pauses" type of content. I think it's meant to be dissected and it becomes pretty dang easy to understand afterwards, I feel. I think that red flags are fine, I think that last minute ideas are a risk whether they work out or not and that's to be expected - it's not like no media company has never done that, I think character cast bloat is an understandable concern but I don't think RWBY really suffers because the audience forgot a character, I think that learning the power systems of the show and how "magical" it seems then receiving the lore drop in V3C6 about real magic is great - I love that it flips us on our heads. I love so much about the show, and am also aware of their flaws. It's just frustrating when a lot of it comes from ignorance and even more so willful ignorance.
You're right, RWBY is absolutely not "digest it all the first time." I am constantly noticing stuff upon rewatching I've never noticed before and I'm going on 9 years of having watched it. I personally think that's the best way to do media, giving it rewatch merit. Like "Oh that's a set up for this thing" is a consistent thing to be found by rewatching RWBY.
@@vazak11 I know, it's almost like they made a video in response to this one that's almost 3 times the length of the original several years after it came out...
I’m glad you, another internet intellectual, have found that cinemasins isn’t funny because they make videos full of first draft bad takes along with actual criticism rather than funny commentary. You have of course fixed this formula by removing any semblance of comedy, and have made a video exclusively made of bad takes.
I can understand not enjoying a show but I think some people have forgotten that they can change to watching anything else at any time. I can recognise flaws of the show but I adore rwby, its frustrating when the criticism comes from simply not paying attention to what is happening and people believing untruths about it
A thing to keep in mind is criticism doesn’t always mean you dislike something. Often times people criticize something they like because they want it to be better, if they really didn’t care about it anymore they wouldn’t even bother to criticize it.
I will humor, I am a season behind, but what critiques are being given that are fixed by paying attention? I have/had a love for the fandom, but the show itself completely lost me when the robot got like... a 3rd fake out death just to die. (being vague for sake of spoilers/humor, not because I don't remember). Also, my understanding is that they faffed around in an alice and wonderland season for the last one? Ngl, even if I haven't seen it, it doesn't sound like a good start at breaking those "does nothing for seasons at a time" alegations.
If you thought the guy who consistently failed to understand even the most basic facts about Blake, who consistently upset her and dismissed her trauma as being "Blakey" and needed Yang to actually do all the emotional labor of helping her, who had literally nothing to do with Blake's first major confrontation with Adam since leaving the White Fang, while Yang was framed as someone Blake loved then you maybe need to work on your media analysis skills. @@9TrixieTurner6

I feel like this became more of a personal attack and rant than a criticism or rebuttal to his criticism of the show. I'll admit, I follow Jello but I'm not much of a fan. Use to love these videos but that was about it as far as his content went for me. Clicked this video thinking it would be fun, funny, haha but at some point it became painful to watch as it felt like you were trying to prove more so that he wasn't funny (hit or miss honestly) to proving more so that he was completely bad faith in his takes and making alludes to him saying these or talking about the show because she failed to get re-casted or something. Tldr... Think the point ended up being about attack Jello than to critique his critique. Not sure if you have some personal biz or something but just wanted my two cents out there.
I wouldn't be surprised if this was the case. RWBY Fans are well known to take any criticism they see as a persona attack. Even with a joke video like Jello's.
@@Haruka_CrimsonSquad Well, it wouldn't come off that way if there wasn't a consistent hatedom distorting facts to suit their narrative. Just because it's "criticism" doesn't mean that it can't be phrased in a rather insulting way. Nor does that mean it is immune from, you guessed it, criticism. It should be part of a conversation, not the final world.
@@matt0044 If you have a pet peeve of someone talking negatively about your show, then it's most likely a you problem. Yeah, it sucks that people are shitting on a show that you like. I'm gonna be honest and say if you really think that there's a "hatedom" against your show, then you might wanna take a step back and look within yourself. Also, "Criticism" isn't always negative, it can mean that people who criticize the show, might want it to get actually better, which is what I've seen mostly.
@@Haruka_CrimsonSquad The pet peeves they were referring to were obviously RWBY fans own issues with the show, which we all discuss frequently, we just don't need to lie about or exaggerate these things to try and trick people who haven't watched the show into not watching it, nor do we claim domestic abusers and violent fascists were the real heroes all along, which is pretty much part and parcel for RWDE given they have never removed the tongues from Adam and Ironwood's boots. There is literally a subreddit dedicated specifically to shitting on the show, it quite literally has thousands of discussions based on made up complaints about the show, where everyone in said little subreddits rant and rave about how "The show never does this anymore and that's why it sucks!" Even while the show does in fact do said thing, or "The guy who wanted to leave the poor to die is the hero, fuck those bitches!" to a chorus of loud cheers and so on.

This is a parody dude, chill.
Ehh the comedy is a matter of perspective, some people will find it funny others won't. Just like Rwby some people like it more than others. Just like some people will like Rwby chibi more than the main show.
Comedy is subjective but the original video seemed to make the punchlines a bunch of bad faith criticisms of the show. Like… how is RWBY Chibi better? How is Bumblebee pandering? Where’s the proof or backup to his arguments? What “potential” was “wasted?” How? How should the secondary cast have been explored? He’s just posing them as “Amirite, guys?” Jokes that rely on you knowing what he’s on about or agreeing with him. That’s actual pandering to an audience. Especially to one that already has it out for RWBY and will make it everyone else’s problem.
@@matt0044 yeah enjoyment of something is inherently subjective. For example liking one show more than the other, liking Chibi more than regular rwby would fall under this. So how could he think chibi was better? Maybe just maybe he enjoyed the writing in chibi, or the comedy, or the animation style, or the character interactions. Yang and Blake’s shipping feels like pandering to some because they feel the writers of the show put it in to appease the shippers in the fans. Lots of people are of the opinion the writers were going with sun as Blake’s love interest before the show changed under fan demand. Well I know I’m certainly of the opinion Torchwick was wasted, so there’s one thing for ya I’m sure plenty of people have other complaints. Missing the point on this one the complaint is constant addition of side characters and a growing cast means less gets done with them. Oh wow you mean a comedy video on a specific subject matter critiquing the complaints he has with it is funny to people familiar with the subject matter and that may even share opinions on said subject matter, never would have seen that coming. And also still not pandering, pandering would be if say he changed his opinions or jokes in the video from what he wanted to instead only what his target audience would enjoy. For example if instead he said he loved Yang and Blake’s relationship to pander to their fans despite not liking it himself. Honestly it feels like rwby fans have it out for rwby more than anyone else.
If you claim X is better than why then you need to explain it not claim it as fact. If you think Bumbleby is pandering when Arryn literally gave the game away before volume 1 even started then you are either unaware or deliberately deceptive. Roman, the middling crime boss and bigot who spent basically every volume getting his shit kicked in was wasted by dying a thematically appropriate death at the turning of the tide as more important and more dangerous villains were introduced? Maybe just admit you don't care about a good story and just like swaggery assholes. Side characters are necessary to expand the world and convey the story, without side characters settings feel empty and lifeless and often incoherent. Misrepresenting the show to pander to the HTDM is pandering, because if you had any valid points you'd make those your complaints rather than being pissy queer people exist or fascists died. I like rwby but the part with them not trusting iron wood just seemed really frustrating just seemed like it was forced to make him evil and the video is just a joke no need to get butt hurt over a what 4 year video like I said I like the series to and I just laughed at the video and had fun watching it
Ironwood was actively showing red flags about his paranoia, especially in way of making decisions like the Dust Embargo and the closing of borders that was actively hurting the entire world, and the first impression they get when they show up is how bad it's hitting Mantle. He isn't presented as trustworthy, he's presented as trying to do the right thing but doing it all wrong because of his paranoia and insistence that he's the only one who knows the right way to handle it. This was his characterization since day one, nothing about it is forced. It's fair to not like it if it's not to your taste, but it's absolutely a natural progression for his character.
@@AlanomalyOfficial He did the Dust Embargo IMMEDIATELY after the fall of Beacon, and considering that his tech got hacked and everything, it's only natural that he would close everything off as a natural security measure. His priority is to his people. How people fail to understand this concept is beyond me. As far as Mantle goes, he already explains his reasoning for the added security as he planned on revealing the news of Salem which in turn would cause panic and thus attracting more Grim. Something in which he has openly expressed to Ruby and company and they seemed to agree with. And no, they did BUTCHER his character, as yes he was indeed paranoid, he was honest and forth coming in regards to his plans. Something that Ruby and co were not, making them liars to a fellow ally, but also hypocrites as they ridiculed Ozpin for the same thing. It's only AFTER Ironwood learns that they have been lying to him when he feels he can no longer trust them, and for good reason, especially considering he's been forth coming with everything while Ruby and co have been lying to him, and you can say they were being just as "paranoid", which again makes them hypocritical. Then Vol 8 happens in which we literally see Ironwood lead his fleet against Salem while keeping the civilian safe, only for him to threaten to bomb Mantle after the threat is cleared. Do you not see the inconsistency in this writing? It's clear you have a bias towards the show and I respect your opinion, but apologists like you drive me nuts when trying to defend RWBY and co's decision making when this could've been cleared up had they just been straight up with Ironwood, especially when they went to Atlas to SEEK THE GENERAL'S HELP. Thanks to their decision making, Salem has two of the relics, the people of Atlas and Mantle were stranded in the middle of the desert in which Grim picked a plethora of them off, and Atlas AND Mantle have been wiped off the map. All because of our "heroes" thought it was a good idea not to trust the general with key information that would help him, and by the time he LEARNED the truth it was far too late as Salem arrived on their doorstep, in which Ironwood had to make a difficult decision, something in which they didn't like nor did they present a counter option. It's funny you say Ironwood had good intentions but end up making the wrong decision, but guess what you can say the EXACT SAME THING in regards to RWBY, who btw knows nothing how to run a kingdom and was in no position to judge The General or his decision making.
Do you think police states, stealing materials, leaving innocent people exposed with minimal protections and increasing dictatorial policies were god things somehow? Everything Ironwood was doing was bad, his motives weren't necessarily but his methods were awful and reflected an extremely negative side to his character which had always come out when he felt pressured. Similar to him backstabbing Ozpin to steal his job at the end of V2 and lying to him and the others about Penny, all while whining he wasn't trusted.
@@wingadept8793 Having reasons that made sense to HIM isn't the same as those reasons making sense or being beneficial to everyone else. Ironwood's cowardice and paranoia doomed him.
@@Citadel_Of_My_Thoughts So let me get this straight. Having an embargo IMMEDIATELY after the fall of a Kingdom for national security purposes doesn't make sense, especially when their tech was compromised during the attack? And adding martial law to prevent panic when he reveals the world to Salem, didn't make sense, even though Team Rwby and co agreed with the plan? And then creating Amity tower to restore communications, something that RWBY and company ended up doing which was Ironwood's idea to begin with? That doesn't make sense. You RWBY apologists make me sick. You'll make any excuses for our "heroes" despite them being in the wrong, for their decisions, which resulted in stranding people in a desert, having the antagonists get two of the 4 relics, and a kingdom's destruction. But yeah the general's actions didn't make sense. Hell I could make the same argument for team RWBY's decision throughout vol 7 and 8 as nothing good came out of it.

2:35 "-some of the most well thought out characters arcs in media?"
Are you talking about a different show, or...?
For example
Judgement Critter's *"RWBY are the villains"* video says that the heroes brought over a Relic that attracted Grimm over, which caused some damage... While that's true, she *intentionally* leaves out the fact that none of them KNEW that the relic could attract Grimm until AFTER something bad happens, which is why they're so mad at Ozpin & asked the dude to turn off the weapons & separate the train... That's obviously not the only example, believe me, but if i listed all of them here, I'd literally be writing a light novel at this point
Edit: 11:28 Another good point right there, but to answer your first question?
@@AlanomalyOfficial Most people like to be whiney bitches while trying to sound smart, that's why
& Yeah, Yang getting shafted in V1 despite being one of the main 4 kinda blows

I think this video is illustative of a lot of RWBY hate, the RWDE especially:
It's a calvacade of Gish Galloping, shoving out point after point about their position and not letting the other side get an inch.
As for fight:
Blake and Yang vs Adam
Ironwood vs Arthur
The chase with the Hound
Ironwood vs. Winter
Team RWBY vs the Red Prince’s pieces
Team RWBY vs Curious Cat
Look them up to see the battles and how they stack up.
Good god, the tea scene…
I like them.

2. "rwby and Ruby aren't confusing."
Volume 3 episode 1 Ruby Rose herself says "and yes before you ask it does cause a lot of confusion."" when talking to Summer's grave about Team Rwby.
3. "last minute additions aren't bad".
I would argue all of your points of things they've added at the last minute ARE bad. But clearly this is a subjective idea. But you don't seem to understand subjective ideas since you're tearing apart a 5 minute long comedy animation because you don't like their subjective takes on the show. speaking of:
5. "just watch the World of remnant!"
Having to do homework to understand a show is always bad.
8. "After the fall focuses on side characters"
You seem to have completely misunderstood the critique Brendan is even saying here.
9. "fights and music"
This is purely subjective.
13. "Chibi isn't good"
It's truly hilarious. You've spent this whole video ranting and raving about how Brendon doesn't like the show as much as you. And this 1 biggest complement about how much he likes Chibi still manages to piss you off. Damned if you do damned if you don't.
14. "Implying the story isn't going anywhere."
It took 3 volumes to learn about maidens.
(This is sarcasm btw)
Goes on to talk about a subjective opinion. lol.
19. "it's funny you landed a voice role in their show."
It's almost like roosterteeth has a better sense of humor and can handle incredibly light criticism of their show better than you can.
20. OmG you're TryIng To SpoIl PenNy!"
Got any proof?
25. "The show has no flaws, you just didn't get it"
lol rwby fans in a nutshell.

2:45 "some of the most well thought out character arcs in media"? seriously? it was like two minutes ago you were defending the writers adding stuff in at the last minute, which is the opposite of thinking them out. also, the comment was about how the main characters get sidelined so that the show can instead introduce or focus on the side characters, who dont add enough to the story or main characters to be worth the screen time. you know, like how neptune was in a completely pointless love triangle that never gets addressed but takes up the majority of like, 3 episodes near a finale. then you mention some books, which again give too much focus to the side characters that ultimately do not matter, and are themselves something added in in the last minute, and not "well thought out"
3:40 hes not complaining about the fights, hes praising them, the complaint comes from the music being unfitting and distracting, which is a fair opinion that some people can and do have
5:00 ok but like, what is the actual difference between a semblance and magic, and why should we, or the characters, care? the complaint isnt that "semblances arent magic and thats confusing" its "the differences between semblances and magic are unexplained and therefore confusing"
5:40 i recently re-watched a bit of rwby, and i dont remember the train being loaded with dust at all. like, it does kinda make sense when you said it, that thats what they used the dust for, but it is not explained or shown to the audience at all. it also doesnt help that theres a story going around the internet that the whole "dust theft" plotline was actually dropped by the writers, but if the dust really was used in the train them im going to use that rumor as evidence of how poorly communicated it was, since so many people didnt pick up on it and assumed it was dropped
7:56 no his return to remnant was forced upon him, regardless of what specifically he wanted, with the task given to him being to save the world. and the point was about the show not SHOWING him being morally grey, rather than just "hes done bad things in the past trust me bro"
9:38 qrow treats his stock in life, including being granted the ability to turn into a bird, as if he signed up for something without fully understanding what was going on and now that he does understand he regrets everything, the show itself frames him, and the ability to turn into a bird, as something bad that should not have happened, its actually a lot of what the show does to try and make you think ozpin is morally grey. the fact that the ability to turn into a bird isnt actually given any sort of weight or consequences counters this entire plot thread. we're told something bad happened, but see nothing but positives as a result of it happening
10:12 racism. i dont need to say anything other than that, really, but i will. the show actively refuses to engage in any meaningful way with the idea that the world they created is racist

11:00 so is miles explicitly writing his self insert OC into a relationship with a 16 year old girl, or kerry explicitly writing his own self insert OC into a love triangle with two 16 year olds
in conclusion, you have a lot of points calling him out for being wrong about the show, but at the same time you either misunderstand the actual complaints hes trying to make, or just flat out get things about the show wrong. you also over correct and lean way too hard into defending the show, and it gives off the idea that the show doesnt have any flaws or things to complain about at all, regardless of if thats your intent or not. and this can genuinely hurt a show far more than just being wrong about it, if the people watching a show pretend that is has no flaws, then it cant work on and correct those flaws to improve going forwards
Its kind of hilarious that you do all these time stamps but literally the first one shows you did not pay ay attention to what was said given they outlined how something introduced into the writing stages late can be utilized and built upon to excellent effect. Sort of makes clear responding to anything you say is a waste of time though given its clearly in one ear out the other.
@@shakytailstudiosshakytails2239 two things:
1, i never said something thats introduced in the last minute cant be used and built on, only that its antithetical to the idea of planning things out, fun fact, both of these ideas are already understood by writers and given names, meticulous planning and thinking ahead is called "architect" style writing, and being more spontaneous and adding things whenever you want is called "gardener" style writing. both are good, neither is better than the other, and both are good for different kinds of stories, but you cant do both at the same time
2, even if i was completely and utterly wrong about my first point, why does that disqualify the rest of what i said? did you even read the rest of what i said? because i dont think you did
Oh, so you just misrepresented reality by conflating "Some things are introduced to the story suddenly, but other things are planned and well plotted out" by pretending the other half of the statement doesn't exist then? Yeah, really selling me on that not being disingenuous thing.

I know several people are looking for a version of this for Harris breweer's video?
I'll get the word out about this treat
Seriously, ask any RWBY fan of their pet peeves and they will gladly roll out the laundry list. But the cottage industry of outright lying about RWBY or trying to make it look as stupid as one feels it is will set us off. Quite rightfully.
That happens constantly, it's the internet. I've seen both sides of the fandom (mind you I've stopped watching rwby about v7 because the writing was declining) and I've honestly never seen a fanbase that gets this upset over someone saying "I don't like this show."

I don't know who or what the fuck RWDE is, and personally I don't care. I'm just gonna call the show how I see it, the show's quality is declining. If you like it, that's fine.
I think I heard of that subreddit, but I heard they formed that because people didn't want criticism in the show. If that's the true., that really doesn't help you guys in the long haul. Like I said, not all criticism is negative.
The real irony is that this video ultimately leads to him voicing the Red Prince in Volume 9. Who is a spoiled whiny child who always has to win.
He was Jinxy.
The irony could still play out with Jinxy with the way Jinxy manipulated the objects to be other things, like how Blaber manipulated the narrative to fit his points that don't make sense if you just look at the actual show.
I only just found this video earlier this morning, AND IT JUST SO HAPPENED that later in the same day, Jello effectively gets blacklisted from working in anime localization, and even possibly future voice work, thanks to his massive fucking ego. womp womp move on
Soooo CinemaSins but without any humor. Honestly, if you take the RWBY parts away, I didn't find myself enjoying this at all. I was laughing at the video you were critiquing more than your own video and yes, while it is true it wasn't your intent to be funny, your video really just succeeded in making you look like you take this stuff way too seriously or are just making fun of him to insult him.
Project here often do you? @@9TrixieTurner6

For real, even if the og video wasn't particularly amazing, this feels like an overly petty analysis.

I agree it's petty, but then again the original jello video was also very petty

I think a better example of a poor RWBY Critic video would be JudgementalCritter's "What Ruined RWBY?" One of the most popular videos on their channel. No clear purpose and you'd be hard pressed to find a sentence that isn't demonstrably, factually incorrect. Love the part where they show tweets and posts with no engagement to prove the RWBY community is soooo terrible. Woe is me, eye roll.
