Read somewhere that the 'cluck' sound/verbal tic was highlighted because it is the sound you make to get a camel to start walking, and Paimon is depicted riding a camel.
This was a spectacular surprise of a film. It arrived when we needed it the most. It was refreshing because we hadn't had a drama type horror film at this level in a long time.
I'm not a real horror fan, so there's zero interest in "creepy doll! Jumpscare! Creepy doll" for me. Hereditary was great though, stuck with me for awhile.
EXCELLENT review, guys! Really forced me to consider so many aspects of this film I did not hitherto. Definitely rewatching this film in the coming days...
Damn, i forgot how i enjoy watching you guys. I subscribed many years ago when you guys were still a under 10.000 subs. I binge watched you guys back then and I'll think I'll do that again. Greetings from Vienna (Austria).
I love this movie. I will never watch it again. While the twist was done almost perfectly, the ambiguity of the movie (is this a psychotic break or supernatural?) almost made the twist disappointing. Almost. But I won't watch this again as it was the most visceral depiction of grief I've seen in a movie. It was 2 hours of unrelenting despair and anguish with no relief. And then it just sticks with you after it's done. It was brilliant, but it's not a movie to rewatch. Great review!!
Scariest movie I have ever seen. I literally watched it gripping the armchair all the way through it. Just an utter feeling of dread all the way throughout. I nearly cried like a little baby when she just sort of looms out of the darkness on the wall. I have only seen it once and I am not sure I ever want to see it again. Absolutely brilliant!!
Never seen it. Gonna go watch it now, because of you guys. Been following for a long time, just recently binged a lot of your vids. Love your guys banter, and casual presentation. Also, NEED that Dog Soldiers shirt.
l watched this one with my family and now every time l make the clucking sound around my sister she gets very uncomfortable because it immediately reminds her of this movie. This one will always be remembered for sure.
So cool to see you guys reviewing this. One of my favourite horrors ever, leaves me feeling affected every time I see it. Only other movie that left me feeling that was was Midsomer. Also 100% Toni was robbed of an Oscar for this. Her acting was off the scale. 👊
I still think that the mum insisting that Peter take his sister to the party with him, was bollux!! 🤦🏻♀️ a very harrowing film imo but really well done - great review 👍🏻
Thanks , guys for this one! Hereditary had affected me like very few other films have! Hey, Gary, I think you were incorrect in saying Charlie was born with Paimon inside her. If you remember, there was a shot of one of Toni Collette’s recreated figures and scenes depicting her in bed holding a baby, and her mother standing next to the bed with her breast exposed. I truly believe it was through the milk that Paimon provided. I mean, come on, a sixty(?) year old woman producing milk on her own? The mother had Paimon in her until she passed him on to poor Charlie.
Charlie is not a chicken so she isn't 'clucking'. She's clicking. There aren't any chickens in this movie that I recall... Did you guys ever see Speak No Evil? I think this movie would send Ian into a coma. What's considered socially acceptable behavior, when is it appropriate to ask questions as opposed to minding your own business....family dynamics and what's considered "normal"...those themes. They seem to be an interesting point brought up regularly in this review.
Everyone forgets that Gabriel Byrne's character Steve is a psychiatrist himself. Or else no one seems to take this into account when analyzing Annie as a character. So basically, Annie should be getting free therapy from her husband...didn't do any of that family any good. They were always in over their heads. AND knowing that Charlie is going to this party, without thinking to send an epi-pen with the kids. Like, how could you not keep an epi-pen on hand for instances like this? I get it. Charlie probably doesn't socialize very often but it was her job as her mother to make sure Charlie was prepared for such instances. Totally negligent on her part. Yeah, sure she has a lot on her mind, but still. I don't hear other folks talk about these details in their reviews/reactions either ;)
Type 9 personality types go into a comatose state when under extreme stress. With moderate stress they can spend hours sitting staring out windows. Then the next stage they can stop eating, bathing, going to work. In peter’s care it was one instance of extreme stress.
Thank you for calling out Peter's cult friend from under the bleachers, and how Peter sees "that face on his face" sneering at him the way his mom talked about at dinner. Not too many folks have mentioned those two details so it's nice to know that I'm actually not imagining things
It makes you feel uncomfortable all the way, and indeed the approach of acting and writing as full drama, and all the audio and visual details, make it really interesting and memorable
The son so traumatized he cant even look at the body and leaving the family to find it because he can't deal made it. Its the most tradic rhing that still makes sense. Only thing is hed probably have immediately called them on the drive before the decap, but thats a nit pick.
This movie was a blast too! Again, I was late to the party when I heard how amazing this movie was at the time it came out! Hereditary is worth watching! Toni Collette is the new modern scream queen! She can scream her ass off! She was amazing! I really hope she does more horror! The whole cast was mazing too, don't get me wrong! But for me personally, Toni Collette really sold the movie for me! I hope they don't try to make a universe out of Hereditary. It's a stand alone that doesn't need sequels and NO! No prequels! Hereditary is perfect on it own!
I can't believe that you saw Hereditary and dug it but that you will never see it again. That's kind of like saying that you just had sex for the first time and you loved it but that you don't want to do it again! How the heck is that possible?
I've always had a life long (purely academic) interest in the occult. So when I saw the sigil hanging around the grandmother's neck, I recognised it, but I couldn't remember which demon it represented. Then when I saw it again a few scenes later the penny dropped. I turned to my partner and said "It's Paimon. They're fucked!". She laughed so much that we had to leave the cinema. Funny but true.
The things I liked. Great review as always fellas. The things I didn't like. Having to revisit this wildly overrated pretentious headache of a movie. Oh well, can't have everything 😆🤠✌
Amazing work as always lads 😊 I still can't understand why you guys don't have 500k subs 😵💫 Thanks so much for all your amazing content from a big fan in Tasmania 😎
It's a Dam Great film..I love horror movies and had many jump n shocking moments that I could only watch once.. I'd rather watch Saw 1's ending on repeat with the hacking off his leg moment (and it's sequels) is why I watched once and can't stomach that franchise either 😂
If you don't believe in the supernatural you reaction at the end will just be "oh fock off!" If you believe in the supernatural 3/4 of the flick is family drama cause mom forgot to abort her son in time and hates him for that for the rest of his life. Is that really a masterpiece?
I thought this film was great overall, but my only niggles with this film is the same with The Exorcist. I don't think it should have gone all out supernatural. I'd have liked it to stay subtle with that stuff. Plus, and I don't know if I'm just an asshole, I found the stuff at the end kinda funny. Not the family falling apart, that was horrendous, but Toni Collette banging her head repeatedly, the naked old people, and when he leapt out of the window. I dunno what's wrong with me. But the VERY END? Chills. I read one comment on the music at the end scene describing it as "sunrise in Hell." And it's like . . . h'yep!
Wow. You guys just really weren't prepared to evaluate this film. (especially dude- screen right). Maybe ya just grew up in healthy families!! 😂 Watch it about a dozen more times...& stay with it the whole time. 👍
Another review half ruined by the adolescent nonsense talker with the ponytail. Please bring back the big guy for some shows. He actually partners well with the guy in the hat. The ponytail guy just shouts and swears but never actually brings anything to the show.
Erm it's THEIR channel? The guy you're talking about just filled in for Ian during Covid due to his day job/isolating, if you don't like Gary and Ian as a duo simply don't watch them? 🤦♀️
What would you rather they say? "Concerning her physiognomy, it suffices to say that since it occupies a place on the front of her head, it must be a face." Her face is goofy looking, man. It is what it is.
Two 45+ minute plus reviews in one week?! You’re really spoiling us with this content. Another great review for the books. Keep them coming dudes 👊🏻
With these Ferrero Rocher you're really...

Agreed, Midsommar is a good one too

Off the shelf reviews bingo card to include :
"Why don't you give us the synopsis?"
"Well the story follows...."
Another awesome review guys! 👊👊 To this day, I am still stunned that Toni Collette was not nominated for a Academy Award for her performance.
I’ve seen many reviews and inputs from several TH-camrs analyzing this masterpiece. Gary by far supersedes everyone!
This one will become a true classic.
Thanks for the content boys 👊👊

Loving Halloween season with OTSR and the Shelfers! Great review for a great film, chaps. Much love to everyone! ❤ have a good one, Shelfers! 👊
My favorite TH-camrs review one of my favorite films! Combo with cold Russian beer and the force is strong with this evening. Thank you!
I say, what's the beer you're drinking?
@@matt1023 Dark Porter Afanasy) it’s pretty strong
Fantastic review, as always. Can’t wait to see what’s next!
2:52 the realest statement ever 😭🤣
You say there’s no humour, but that think sound as the head hits the floor just makes me chuckle every viewing!
This film turns batshit crazy towards the end!

This movie is one long gutpunch, all arround sadness.
A modern horror classic.
This films an absolute masterpiece

Looking forward to this one guys.
This has been a good week lads. Hereditary AND Cabin in the Woods. Epic films, epic reviews!
Great film guys.
The best horror film since The Exorcist period
I hope you guys review Late Night with The Devil... that movie is dope!
YES!
I still think that the mum insisting that Peter take his sister to the party with him, was bollux!! 🤦🏻♀️ a very harrowing film imo but really well done - great review 👍🏻
I think it’s scarier if the whole town Isn’t in the cult. When there are way more than we’d expect but not everyone, we don’t know who we can trust.
Thanks , guys for this one! Hereditary had affected me like very few other films have!

Hopefully Piamond doesn't mind that Peter cries like a whiny toddler.
One of my favourites for sure. Great review chaps

I love this film and love you guys. Thanks for the review

Paimon's Plan
1: Possess male
2: ?
3: World Domination
Love these guys they love films …..so you get a truthful spec because of it

The girl gets her head taken of by putting her head out the window I remember people coming into my school to talk about that

Weevil is in the house! 👊 😘
Great movie! 👍 Great review, as always guys! 👍 What is this year's helloween-movie review? It's one week away..
I love this film. I love this channel
As sooon as Charlie put her head out the window i knew what was going to happened and i still laughed. Im going to hell for that huh?
No, but someone may laugh at you in your last days.🤷♀🤷♀
Her head wouldve been crushed on impact. I find it hard to belive that it wouod just pop off like that
Do pigeons cluck ?
I haven't been as uncomfortable watching a movie since the Exorcist.
Great movie, great review, as always!
Great review! I've seen this movie once when it first came out, and I dug it. I haven't watched it again since then, and I don't think I will.
I can't believe that you saw Hereditary and dug it but that you will never see it again. That's kind of like saying that you just had sex for the first time and you loved it but that you don't want to do it again! How the heck is that possible?
I didn't love it. I liked it... I felt the same way about Come And See... I dug it. Great war movie...but I only really need to see it once.
shelf life! 🎉
This movie was brutally unrelenting. I had to watch "Big Trouble in Little China" afterwards as a palate cleanser to restore my will to live.
I literally just finally watched it for the first time this week! It is a far out movie! good lord
Great film! 👍🏻😎

Neither funny nor true, Patrick.
The vibe for this movie was awesome but the ending was a bit of a let down imo. It felt a bit silly

Idk what it is but I don’t find Ari Aster movies as special as everyone else seems to.
I can review this movie in one sentence. Toni Colette is amazing, everything else is stupid beyond belief, and it's not scary in the slightest.
Do you guys like chubby Gary?
Is this a hint that your kids will eventually take your place?
Wow. You guys just really weren't prepared to evaluate this film. (especially dude- screen right).
Maybe ya just grew up in healthy families!! 😂
Watch it about a dozen more times...& stay with it the whole time. 👍
One of very few horror films that scared me.
✌
One of the most disappointing movies I ever saw, so hyped, but it turned out to be a load of rubbish
Must've felt good to get that off your chest, eh?
