Excellent video, I was pulling out my hair trying to connect a similar head unit to what I now realise is a rear amplified b7 a4. Line level converter is on it way! I've learned a little but about amplified and pre-amplified signals along the way!
My harness looks different like I only have one connector to factory unit. And my rear speakers don’t work just bought line out converter and rear still has no sound.
@@lmlebouef I would need to see a pic, but generally you would connect the rear audio output from the head unit (seperate to main connection block), to the line level converter, then unpick the rear audio cables from your main harness and connect then to the other side of your line out converter

Great informative video. I currently have an Eonon stereo in my 2006 A4 and I also ran into the tight fit, so good to know that it wasn't anything that I did wrong. Knowing that I should trim a small amount off of the top will definitely come in handy with future mods. The question I have today is if there is a substantive difference between the aftermarket Android head units from Eonon, Seicane and XTRONS. I'm finding the Eonon to be subpar with its 2GB memory, 16GB storage and Android 6.0 operating system. Considering replacing it with either Seicane or XTRONS to bump up to 4GB memory and 32GB storage along with Android 8.0. Any benefit to that other than the obvious upgrades? I'm a bit leery about the "line converter" as I don't believe I had to do that with my current installation. Not sure I should be cutting and splicing wires. LOL.
The Seicane and Xtrons seem to be the exact same unit (it even says xtrons in the manual). From what I’ve seen, the two places my head unit seems to have an advantage is the instant on and more ram. There is very little loading involved since everything is stored in its memory until you do a full restart. I wouldn’t worry about splicing the wires with the line in converter. Like I said in the video, the rear speaker wires don’t lead anywhere so there’s nothing to lose. You could always join them back together if you wanted to :) I did face a similar problem with the rear speakers with my Pioneer but that head unit allowed me to boost the rear preouts slightly so I didn’t need a line lever converter. I would say it’s a necessity with this head unit though since you lose a lot of bass since the rear subwoofer will be very quiet otherwise.
Torque Steer, THANK YOU for the quick and useful response! 😉 One other issue I need to resolve, which I failed to mention is poor radio reception but this also started with the factory RNS-E so it's very likely a faulty or failed antenna component in my 11-year-old A4. 🙄
