- I was so intrigued when I came across this mushroom root steak option in the store this weekend.
Of course I had to give this @eatmeati product a taste test and review!

I tried it. I seasoned it really well air fried it to cook and firm it up more. Then put it in a cast iron grill pan for the markings and that grilled flavor. Tasted great. No tuna smell or taste. I loved it😊
See it’s some magic that happens in the air fryer. I planned to review the chik’n strips they have and I’ll have to try it the way you did. Thank you girl 😊
I also put mine in the air fryer and got a steak taste. It has to be well seasoned.
@pattyduke3079 thank you Patty
@@pattyduke3079how long did you air fry it?
@@steventaylor1522 Four minutes on each side at 370 degrees. Make sure you season it well.
Have tried all their products and my partner and I never got a 'tuna' smell or even the texture. To us its one of the most realistic meat subs out there AND it doesn't have any of the top 9 allergens. I think the key is in how you cook it, same with actual meat. If you want it to be it's best you have to really pamper it. We use the air fryer for the crispy cutlets and for the chick cutlets and steak we cook in a fry pan surrounded by vegan butter with garlic, shallots, and herbs. I tend to cook them longer than the box says because I like a firmer texture. Maybe give them another shot, the nutritional value alone is worth it, if you look at the vitamins one serving is like it's own multi-vitamin!
Thank you for sharing. I agree with adding some love to it, it could be elevated for sure.
Amen honey
It definitely smells like tuna when not cooked. I smelled it immediately with a slight smell of chicken. Doesn’t smell like that after being cooked.
@MoonBeamLight it’s good to know I wasn’t the only one.
I've tried these "steaks" once before and they weren't too bad (with some "doctoring" up). Before cooking the Meati steak, season it with some oil and vegan steak seasoning and let marinate for a bit. I have a George Forman as well, but when cooking this Meati steak, try the air fryer, or preferably a cast iron grill skillet if you want the marks. Serve with a baked potato with vegan butter & vegan sour cream, a side salad with your dressing of choice, some garlic french bread, and some A-1 Sauce for the steak. Bomb!
Girlll this sounds too good!! I’m sure the cast iron gives it that nice buttery sear you need too. Thank you for sharing! Definitely, will hook it up like this the next time I give it a try.
A-1 sauce is not vegan. Check the ingredients.
@@someguy2135 alternatives please?
I like all their mushroom meat replacement items. If you season the mushroom steaks as you would a meat steak, I think you would like it too.
BRW, I didn’t smell “tuna”.
I heard good things about their chik’n option. I’m going to try that soon
I didn't really like the meati classic steak either, and neither did my wife. I think maybe I didn't cook it enough. It cooked it until is was brown, but it might need more of a sear. I've seen other people cook it until it had black grill marks on it, maybe I'll try that next time.
I can see it improving the taste if it was grilled. Sometimes the smokiness from a grill helps a lot.
Delicious and no tuna smell or taste. I used some BBQ/A1 sauce for additional flavor
A couple people mentioned squares help as well. I’m happy your experience with it was a positive one.
Just found you. I bought some and am looking for a prep recipe
I’m happy the paths have crossed to my channel. I had a few people mention they prepared it like a traditional steak dinner and it turned out good.
I wanted to like this, but the texture was intolerable for me 😭 good flavor & it had a good INITIAL chew, but then it seems like it just doesn’t break down … it just stays chewy.
That’s so true. Texture makes all the difference.
it isn't even chewey. More like wet soaked cardboard (which I do not eat, but can imagine).
I swear. Everyone has the same confused look when y’all bite into it. Ive watched 12 videos today. I got a pack today at WF and I was going to try it out but not without consulting TH-cam first.
I’m happy to know I’m not alone with my initial reaction.
I’m happy to know I’m not alone with my initial reaction.
How about consulting your own taste buds?
Maybe I'll buy it and make a tuna salad
😂🤣
whats the name of your haircut? or hairstyle?
It’s an afro. I sometimes put a part in it as well
oh looks really good @@FrobulousVeggies
@user-wc3zt5fq2o thank you 😊
I’ve got two of these steaks marinading as we speak; and they do smell like tuna. I hope they don’t taste like tuna.
See I knew my nose wasn’t that off with that tuna smell lol. Thank you.
@@FrobulousVeggies I’m sorry to say that even though we seasoned them and prepared them exactly as recommended, they were awful.
@jonnybecky2 I was hoping it would at least turn out better prepared
@@FrobulousVeggies So did I; but sadly, not. I hope this company continues to work on their formula because it’s a great idea. Maybe their vegan chicken is better.
I know I wouldn't like it for the fact of the "Tuna" smell also. I would be interested in trying the other products they have available though.
Yea I’m not a fan of that smell if it’s not supposed to be “tuna”. I want to try their other products though
Larger channels that reviewhave given this product the thumbs up👍! I've tried it and have not experienced any of the demerits you suggest. As a previous red meat eater, it came closer than other products.
The problem is trying to compare it exactly to meat. That’s not the intention of healthy eating.
I respect your viewpoint
I tried a plain “steak” for lunch today; it tasted fine and the texture was fine, however 1/2 way into it my stomach really started hurting. 8 hours later and I still can’t eat. It feels like a rock in my stomach. I’ve written Meati to see if they’ve had anyone with similar results. I normally eat a lot of mushrooms, so I’m not allergic. And I ate the “steak” alone so I know it’s just the Meati making me feel sick. Has anyone else here had a similar experience?
I hate that it caused stomach pains for you. I hope you’re feeling better now.
@@FrobulousVeggies Thank you. I'm much better today. Meati already emailed me back to ask more about my experience. What a great company! I really hope they succeed in helping more folks to transition to a healthier and kinder lifestyle and I hope more food companies follow suit.
@laughing-cat I’m glad to hear you’re feeling much better! I truly respect companies that hear customers out and welcome feedback. Shoutout to them 💜
Same here! halfway through I became nauseated. It tasted disgusting too.
@f I actually thought it tasted quite good. But maybe for me it was too realistic? I'm really not sure. I'm just always happy that new meat-free products are being developed.
You are too nice. I appreciate your kindness, but I give it a "0". Made me nauseated and tasted horrible.
Thank you and I’m sorry it made you nauseous.
Oh no disappointed to hear of the tuna smell. I already have them on my freezer so I will let you know when I cook it! Thanks sis for your review
You’re welcome sis. Yes, let me know what you think
The chicken was even worse for me. ppl like it, it’s just ok to me especially with all the work to make it taste good.
Agreed. I don’t believe this product is for me, but it’s cool that it works for others.
I put lots of worchestershire. It was still disgusting and nauseating.
It was the most disgusting I've ever tasted. Unless they made a mistake in my box, it tastes like I would imagine wet blended and then compressed cardboard. I seasoned and cooked as recommended. I am not making this up, I became nauseated halfway through eating it.
Thank you for trying so I ain have to lol. I hear the chicken ones are better.
You’re welcome! I heard that too. I’ll have to try that next.
The smell of this product made me sick to my stomach.
See I knew I wasn’t the only one who smelled something odd from this product.
Getting a vegetarians opinion about meat alternatives seems counterproductive. I rather hear a meat eaters opinion
They have those mixed in the comments as well across my videos. You should check them out. Either way, thanks for watching!
