There were 2 problems that the farmers of the country faced - they used to buy expensive chemical fertilisers & seeds and 2nd they never bothered to market or sell the products direct to the customers. The traditional way was to sell the vegetables to the middlemen who had transportation and they would take it to the cities and sell there. Selling products to middlemen is a method that will always be loss making. The method of selling directly to the people in the cities is a very good method and today it is very easy due to social media and technology.
This is business model... not "struggle" where is the struggle? He has developed his business like a professional, done well and set good example. But it is not as easy as it looks because 1) It is very costly -1 acre polyhouse construction cost about 1 to 4 lakhs. 2) Drip irrigation too is expensive. 3) This model is monocrop, easy for crop diseases to get in... and most importantly 4) the whole model is based on taking HUGE loans above (5lakhs). This is very dangerous path for farmers for one extra yield. Dnyaneshwar is successful because he is farming in the IT Park area where there is high income families who can afford to buy exotic vegetables and higher priced organic vegetables. Organic farming with rainshelter instead of polyhouse is good option. Selling milk is another difficult idea when one farmer has to draw milk, store it & transport it... that too 50ltrs. Its not an easy job. But the same milk can be converted to 1 or 2 kg ghee then it becomes easy to sell 2kg daily.
