Great video man. Nothing but respect for driving within your means and your comfort level. I always think it’s funny when people say “drive harder,” but those people ain’t gonna pay for my wrecked car or my medical bills lol.
exactly. The more I do it, the faster and smoother I'll get. just need more seat time!
Glad you had fun brother, to this day, running the dragon in a tuned 8th gen is one of my fondest car memories evererer. Cheers. Also, thanks for getting this up so quickly after sharing the previous vid. 🫡💪🙌
lol you're welcome! Might be the first time someone has thanked me for uploading a video quickly. This used to be my normal posting schedule when a fire was lit under my ass throughout 2020 and 2021. Hopefully I can keep up this pace to close out 2023
Always nice seeing cars being pushed on a curvy technical road. Thanks for sharing!
Wow Cam, thanks so much for sharing, I really felt the trip, hope you had a blast!
Great video I ran it last year and I had Waze running so I could see how sharp the curves were going be as I progressed through the curves because I had never been on the dragon before. Definitely amazing it's so nice when the slower cars pull off for you.
I have gone to Gatlinburg twice now... I love it! My Civic Hatchback Sport (fk7) drives incredibly good on the Blue Ridge Highway. It is an experience I truly reccomend to all car enthusiasts out there, I just love Honda Civics, they handle incredible well in these twisted roads. Cameron keep doing theses awesome videos and hopefully more people can enjoy the fun of these great cars on these spectacular mountain roads!
What a great trip! Thanks for riding with us!
great stuff, this year will be my 4th year down with the TypeR.. it always amazes me everytime. Some of the best roads for any purists.
Good stuff driving at your limits, don’t push harder than what you are comfortable with and remember Slow is Smooth and smooth is fast 🙌.
Awesome Cam. I'm embarrassed to say that as someone from NC (living in NJ), I've never taken any of my cars to the dragon. I've had great cars for that stretch of road (Miata, Integra, a couple modified VWs) and never managed to do it. Now I'm thinking of making a trip down in the STI for it.
Just do 1 day of autocross to know the cars and your limits. Trip videos are the best
Was about to comment the same. You have nice cars, but if you wanna learn limits in a relatively safe environment. You should start autocrossing!
What a fun area, hope you enjoyed. I did the Dragon in our 2016 rental caddy cts, and it was still a blast 😂
"Loser"? No, no you are a Learner. Great video of a wonderful road for driving. i had had my Type S three days when I went to the dragon. Got to run with a Type R and I will never forget the sound of those two engines wound out in 2nd gear and screaming around those switchback turns. Thanks for the show!
Lube your window runs with silicone spray. That should help.
1991 black Civic Si hatch is what I had back in the day. 1.6, sohc, no vtec, 15.4 quarter mile.😉 Such a fun car.
Glad to see you have fun bro, Type R looks like it was a champ around the corners
(P.S. those were female Elk, not moose 😂)
I did this a few years ago. Very fun road. Unfortunately a motorcyclist died around mile 7-8 just ahead of us. Very tragic, so you guys were smart to stay within limits.
I was surprised how hard it is on brakes. After my first pass headed north, by the time I reached the pull off at the end of the tight section, the brakes were radiating so much heat I didn’t want to put the hand brake up.
It’s easier going south with more uphill sections so you don’t need as much brake.
Those are Elk we have a lot of them in PA as well cool animals.
I'd really be interested in knowing how the brz would do there. That's basically where the car excels.
I definitely support you getting a civic hatch and building it!!!!!!
Im lucky enough to be able to do that type of driving everyday if I want to and ive been to flordia its a big difference you were doing good having seat time is the most important thing with that kind of driving youll get better and more confident id look up videos on how to corner with front wheel drive because that helped me with my car and most important know your car and how your car handles and it will be easy good video
I was there on the 7th with my fl5, had a blast!! Drove up from Atlanta
Cameron, your video repeats itself near the end. Looks like it was fun for you and a “No Thanks” for me. The Elk were pretty- you might need to return to Maine to re-familiarize yourself with Moose!
nice pov the brz would definetly eat up the dragon
Really hope you make it to the wake the dragon 2024 event ! Would be dope rippin the dragon with you 🤙🏻
So nice to see you enjoy the day!!!
The dragon is a blast! Been to Classic Hondas on the Dragon the last 2 years. Great turnout.
You have to visit Anakeesta parks it’s amazing.
Let us know if you do this again. I wouldn't mind taking my old ass NSX there 😂
Looked like lots of fun! Been planning to road trip to East Coast from California. Now I definitely have TOD on my list 😮
What a product week Cameron (3 videos)! Keep up the good work
That red civic hatchback lights are so clear because they are real glass. I wish I didn't sell my 93 hatchback vx
I was also down there that same weekend. Will be back for Tougefest
If you saw a blue Lotus Evora GT on Saturday/Sunday that was me! I've never seen so many clean and running CRX's in one place at the same time before!
Glad you got some good boost weather for this.
When u was there you should have came to asheboro nc and checked out my limited yellow type r and my white one
Wow I’d love to take that drive
As you said, keep your hands at 9 and 3. Makes a huge difference :-)
Fun drive, me n my buddies would’ve attack those corners aggressively.. intense chase like cat and mouse.
CLIBBINS GOT EM AT 6:06.
Lol the Phoenix yellow ITR right there and he is geeking over a 5th gen hatch…
and?
If I didn’t attend Slammedenuff Gatlinburg I would’ve made it out to Classic Hondas at the Dragon man. Me and my buddy in his Veloster N was ripping it on the dragon at about 8PM so it was dark lol. Was on his ass the whole way up lmao. Once you drive it a couple of times it’s super fun to drive
Love this Video. Hopefully my mark 3 Supra can join you when I move to Tennessee next year. Big dream of mine to drive to Tall of the dragon
That would be sweet!
Awesome video! Is this meet a yearly event? I'm new to honda's but if it is may try and make next years.
Seriously goals, much love
This is an odd coincidence. I grew up in Bryson City and moved up to NH. It's very rare to see a video filmed there. My parents retired back down to NC, they live in Whittier now. Also driving this road as a passenger makes me feel nauseous.
Well you just saved me a ton of money Cam. Me and My Speed3 were hitting 70-90 on them short shoots between turns and back then my Mazdaspeed3 had 215/40/18 Stock tires. . Not making fun at all, I don’t have a kid at home. With the crazy big brakes and tires I thought the Type R be way faster thru there. I guess it is bigger with wider track but same weight(ish). I went and looked at an Si at Honda other day. So expensive. I’m so glad I saw your video. I was gonna go look at the Integra this weekend but I’m 100% good now. 9 and 3 is perfectly fine hand positioning. That’s what I do and every race car driver with a GT3 or F1 style wheel. Time to put some more money in my Mazda. I need a new Head Unit with all the cool Apple stuff and a reverse camera. I’m so glad you had fun. I hope you bring BRZ next time. Honestly I think be just as quick and probably more fun. By the way when I was there last I saw maybe 5 cars on way up at night and maybe 10 on way down when sun was just up. Not saying you were going slow, you drove very responsibly! Your wife and kid at hotel was cool! Have safe trip home!👍🏻👍🏻
The Type R is way more capable than what I put it through this weekend. I did what I was comfortable with and not really sure what else to say other than that.
@@Camhill182 I know it is Cam. Being safe is way smarter. Wasn’t dissing you at all, just an observation that you need a track day or 2 for sure! It’s amazing what you pick up in a few days. You see the dam from Fugitive?
@@weekileaks23 the dam? The Fugitve as in the Harrison Ford movie? I didn’t see anything that stood out to me in particular, I’m gonna have to look this up!
@@Camhill182 You drove by it quite a few times lol. It’s been awhile since I been there. Maybe it’s not as easy to see. Yes this dam th-cam.com/video/g5RRjdhbxPk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=qKVjUlSHHJge5yrM
oh wow! I love that movie and had no idea that dam was at the dragon. I'll have to look out for that next time I go
Looks so badass. I think I'll take the FL5 next year.
Hope to be there in 2025. Coming from Sarasota Florida
You have been replaced!! That take of the dragon shirt is fresh will that cross out switched to your name 😎
Black was an ef hatch(89-91), red one is an eg hatch(92-95)
Definitely agree with a eg hatch or even a eg coupe!
Lets gooo 3 videos in a week!
When are you doing another meet up?
Hey Zack! I'm not sure. I'll think about it
That old school civic is a EF civic hatch
You should maybe take the type r for a lapping day at a local track so you know and are confident in the cars limits.
That third doe!
Keep them coming brother!
I can’t imagine myself driving there with that car.
It looks like you had a great time! I've been going to the Dragon from Orlando annually since 2007. It was always so much fun in my RSX-S, but my '20 CTR is too much car for the Tail of the Dragon, in my opinion. I drive it in comfort mode because at the low speeds on the run, it doesn't make much difference. However, the reduced steering effort of comfort mode is appreciated after a while! Night runs are where it's at in small groups. For the CTR, the Cherohala Skyway run is much more enjoyable. First thing on a weekday morning before the cruising bikes are out is about the best time. Another spot to visit is the SCCA Dragon Hill Climb route. This is a dead-end drive up the mountain that terminates in a scenic lookout trail. Fontana Dam is also a place you will want to visit. I recommend staying in a cabin at Fontana Village for future visits as it is located very close to all the roads you will want to drive.
How is the CTR too much car? Or you mean while its open to the public? I had my 500whp Type S on the Dragon when they had the touge in 2018 and I thought it was perfect power. I am AWD tho, but it was so much fun. The entire mountain was closed down for like 4 hours for the event. I was pushing it pretty hard.
@@JonHop1 To me, it seems too big and heavy for the tight corners compared to a smaller, lighter car. I bring up the rear in the group I meet with, behind a vintage GTR, a Focus RS, a heavily modified Integra, and an S2000. It's not the CTR that is lacking but my skills and experience. I like the cornering but don't care to accelerate hard and brake hard at every short opportunity.
@@knavekid I hear you, you def need to be prepared, and know how to drive it.. It can be dangerous.. Driving a touge on it was a thrill. There was like 41 cars... It was crazy. But my car was also setup for it, so I was able to push it pretty hard.
wow! I will try out those other routes next time! I plan on bringing the BRZ up there before snowfall!
@Camhill182 Do an awd Honda build and bring it! You can get a super cheap dc2 shell, and be able to do a full k24 awd monster for probably the $15k ballpark total depending on the parts. Make a fun cheap beater u truly enjoy driving and beating the crap out of!
Them roads look soo fun and scary
love the video man !
Love the Type R content ❤
Thinking of getting a 2019 FK8
How are they in the winter temps?
Thats an civic EF hatch back before the EG come out.
If you tires are no making noise your not near the limit
Common Cam W ❤
so im assuming you've never gone to track your type r
Nope
8:05 I wouldn't have gone +R here, given it's raining and you said you weren't quite comfortable yet
You have a family to go home to, only do what you're comfortable doing on the road. So long as you have fun and male it home to Vivian and your daughter, who cares if you some rando in the comments, think you look lame.
Have you ever thought about doing any racing or competing in some Time attack? Id love to see you put your cars to some good use!
Yes I have. I'd like to make it out to an open track day at The FIRM sometime in November
Dude Wish I would've known you were going to up to the Tail of the Dragon! I'm only a few hours away. Would've been sick to ride up there. Also, I think those are elk, but I could be wrong lol.
I've been mentioning it for months! maybe I'll see you next time
@@Camhill182 I also had a kid within the last 2 months so I haven't been able to keep up on TH-cam unfortunately, but glad to see you were out having a good time! I'll ride out one of these days 🤘
What weekend was this? Were you in Gat during Slammedenuff?
This was a few days ago. No i was not
Great vid! Great cars, lobe the fk8! Btw, guys, I just learned about the FK2 and (I think) the FN2 Honda civic type R(s) a little while ago. Check those out too! We never got those in the States!
You need to stay high in the RPMs and low gear “granny shifting not double clutching like you should.”
Bro, how do you get Jessie from fast and furious in your video?
So are you going to make it out for Wake the Dragon 2024? It’s really fun when it’s over 150 Hondas all riding out.
I might be able to make it
Looks like fun!
Cam might want to grab an FL5 now like I did I traded in my FK8 rumors are this is going to be the only year for the FL5 before they go hybrid watch racecar friends video he has a buddy who works high up at Honda
My son wants to do after market stuff to my SI,but now that I’m buying I took out the lifetime warranty, and if I go outside of Honda doing it,it wouldn’t be warranted, my son wants to do some mods,he knows what he’s doing, but yet I don’t want to void the warranty! IDK
As long as you’re not doing anything to affect the motor/electronics, you should be okay. Example: Headers, downpipe, cat less exhaust, engine tune etc are no no’s. But a cat-back exhaust, aero mods, etc are okay.
Dat blue ISF though
curious what's your suspension set up and wheels tire?
Lol. I love these old CRX's ?
How my mechanic shop teacher in high school once said “REDLINE THAT BXTCH!!” Haha he was great I miss him. It would’ve been super dope if you put a mic above your exhaust.
I'll get better audio next time. I actually just bought the Roland in-ear binaural audio microphones which you will see and hear me use in the video after next.
Well man, you need to keep your 10th gen Civic for many times.
What pads and fluid were on the car?
Where do you get your brakes from?
Finally upgraded from a white SI got a black Type R to match you bro 😂
Now to start the mod buying process all over 🤦🏽♂️
nice! you made a great purchase! only tough part is keeping this thing clean
if anyone is a sneaker head my boi had on the AI's lol
What diffuser is on that white fk8? 😍
Bet dude had ceramic pads on the Dragon.
i think you should sell the BRZ and buy an 8th gen ... that would do NUMBERS on the channel
Nah he should most definitely keep the brz… a rwd is a good balance for his channel. It would actually be cool if he gets into drifting for a change. If he does sell the brz, he should at least get a 350z
CamHSquad
I thought this was going to be yet another car wash video but instead, you are there at the mountains driving the tail. Good job! How does it feel using the car for what it was designed to do?
Hating for what? He’s been doing videos like these for years
NC gang
What day was this?? I was there about 3 days ago
Friday
Bryson City huh I love that name that's actually my name😅
those are elk
Looks like you’d be better off in a 10th gen SI with a set up than a Type R. Cheers man 🤟🏼
what is that?
@@Camhill182 you would have really enjoyed the lighter 200LBS SI with good brakes and light mods to the engine. Only saying that cause you can’t even use much of the engine on the Type R in situations like this but you could be ripping a 10th gen or K24 for more fun if it’s built like suspension and simple mods 👍🏼
elk... not moose lmfao
You guys would be better off in Camry's with how fast you guys were going
Well, we did what we were comfortable with. I don't see anything wrong with that
Aye first🎉😂
