    I just got my core box and look forward to painting it. I want to make sure I do it right and I’m not sure if you’re supposed to clean the miniatures with soap and water before assembly and painting. Is that something you recommend?

    • @Sorastro
      @Sorastro  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ricardo! With certain models/games it's a good idea to wash the miniatures, but it isn't necessary at all with Shatterpoint 🙂

    Hey Sorastro, love your videos and watching them while I paint, I’m pretty new to it so they help me a lot. I really appreciate how straightforward they are and you showing what you do in your steps so it isn’t rushed. Question for you, I don’t own an airbrush, and I see you do the zenithal highlights. Would doing a drybrush from the same angle achieve a similar result, and if so any tips on that?

    • @Sorastro
      @Sorastro  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Kyle! You could dry brush the mini (but avoid the lightsabers as they're delicate!), but honestly, I think a quick blast with a rattle can white from above would probably be best 😀

    • @Sorastro

    • @Sorastro
      @Sorastro  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you very much! That might be worth a topic-style video on tbh.. 🙂

    • @galatician8063
      @galatician8063 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would welcome a video on this topic also, but he does kind of tell you some of the secrets. You want to pull the paint toward where you want the most color. Also , notice how his brush is following the edges and shapes of the robe, gradually using brighter colors and covering less surface as they get brighter & higher in contrast. Also, thin your paints, and wet your brush slightly before grabbing paint. Continually clean your brush just swirling in water and wiping clean before each layer. Wet bristles will allow for a much smoother finish than just soaking paint up with dry bristles. Try to cover in one / as few strokes as possible as reworking an area will cause texture. Use light pressure as you start and be conscious of the angle of your brush. Also, practice on a test miniature so you are not worried about ruining it until you get the hang of it. Different paint brands will react differently to how much you can thin them and will dry differently depending on how humid or dry it is at your location \ paint desk. And just search for videos on achieving smooth blends and compare what they are telling you. Some other channels I watch are Vince Venturella, Ninjon, Miniac, and Squidmar Miniatures to name afew. They have all covered this at one point. Anyway, I hope this helps!!!!

    Beautiful! I always loved Ventress. Question…when putting tattoos on a mini, do you ever put on a thin layer of flesh tones over them to give the illusion of them being “under the skin”? I can never make tattoos on minis look right

    • @Sorastro
      @Sorastro  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks man! Yes, I've done it on the odd occasion - especially for larger models. It's not much different to using an appropriately-thinned tatto tone though tbh, ie the net effect is much the same 🙂

    Been watching this series in preparation, they always look amazing! I wanted to ask why you sometimes use contrast paints, and sometimes do layers for the main colours? Is it due to the model itself (primary), the shapes?

    • @Sorastro
      @Sorastro  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! Yes, I sometimes use speed paints for areas where there's a chance for an "easy win" - often the more textured parts of a miniature for example. But for things like board areas of fabric etc, I don't think they work so well, so I prefer to use base colours and highlights. 🙂

    Just had a bad few days in hospital, came out today, and found this waiting for me to drool over :-D THANK YOU Mr S for making my dreams come true with this video. Ventress is the one Sith character I can really empathise with from the Clone Wars series, and seeing how beautifully you bring this mini to life (Complete with a much-needed by me way of painting her pale flesh :-D) has just made my decision to buy Shatterpoint now, if not for the game, but just for the Ahsoka Tano and Assaj Ventress minis :-D My two favourite Clone Wars adversaries in one box, and twice the fun when it comes to breaking out the paints and brushes, and applying your techniques to help evolve my own skills :-) Just cannot thank you enough for this video. Every one you post just reminds me why I started in this hobby over 50 years ago, and why I'm still inspired by it today :-D

I'm watching your Ventress video again, as I am painting some of the new Chaos Legionaires from Kill Team, and want a nice, pale skin tone for them. So my recovery is already in full swing, thanks mainly to finding your awesome, inspiring video waiting for me to drool over and learn from :-D I've ordered my own set of Shatterpoint today, just for the figures, and will be emulating your paint schemes as soon as the figures are cleaned up, primed and ready to go :-D You, good sir, are a much better medicine than anything my doctors have prescribed, as you never fail to inspire me to be a better painter, but a better person, too, as while my painting skills have improved, so has my entire physical/spiritual well-being, too :-) Please don't ever give up making your tutorials, or composing such beautiful background music to go with them. I must admit, I sometimes accompany your music on the spoons and pans in my kitchen/painting area, while waiting for my paints/washes to dry :-) Just adds to the whole experience, and makes my cats leave the house for a while, too :-D
