    Well! I learn a lot watching this video. It had brought back memories as a kid living in Yonkers NY. There was a knife sharping guy in truck that came around that moms and house wives took their knives to get sharpen. Unlike you, he did a horrible job! Our knives came back ground down to hell! Horrors of scratches throughout the blade. This was in the late 60s 70s. Maybe sharping was not great back then but still!
    Thank you for posting!

    I haven't bought a serrated knife in years and don't plan to in the future. Nice job.

    That will ruin the serrations in a few uses, you should use rods to keep the serrations shape. This will remove damage and keep shape

    I use to approach and for personal knives it works well but when sharpening as a business you need speed. And most of the knives come to you really beat up. So what takes 4-5 min on a well cared for knife can take 20-30 min on what gets brought in to a sharpener. Not to mention the multure of different serration designs you get. Most of the time sharpening the back is the only option. Most of the time I can sharpen the back and not leave a trace!

    I love your videos! I have a hobby side gig interest and have always enjoyed sharpening knives by hand yet it takes so long that I am buying equipment to do it with wheels and belts soon. I was wondering, where did you get the lay-down 30” belt grinder that you use in this video that has the controller box on the left side? Keep doing these videos, they are very informative and pleasing to watch!

    Thanks @P G. Can you tell us a little more about the size of the felt wheel? I believe you suggested the hard version and some compound. Thinking it would help with serrated knives and some light polishing of scratches on knives.

      Yes, I do sometimes if I’m moving fast, the wet stones already running and it only needs a quick touch up. But I just prefer the belt. But if the wen is all I had I’d get use to it more and perhaps start preferring it.

    That's the laziest way to do a serrated, all's you are doing is making the serrations smaller.

    • @FREEHAND.WETGRINDER
      @FREEHAND.WETGRINDER  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      My process is based on delivery of a very sharp result for a price the customers will pay. Many Knife manufacturers say to do a slight bevel on the back. How do you do serrated knives? Scallops and sawtooth.

    • @billybobwombat2231

      @@FREEHAND.WETGRINDER , a thin oxide wheel shaped with a diamond dresser to the shape of that knifes scallops, wheel on a small tool and cutter grinder, grind each tooth and buff off burr on a denim wheel with polish compound, about 2 mins each knife, to do them properly you need to regullet it , your method eventually leaves the knife with no scallops, 🤙

    • @FREEHAND.WETGRINDER
      @FREEHAND.WETGRINDER  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As I say , many ways to sharpen. About 1/3 of the serrated knives. Are not possible that way. Saw style and to a lesser extent a new design I’m starting to get. I’ll call it a three level serrated design. When being careful to not grind more than needed I find it works well for me. At times I do need to re serrate a Knife that was overly sharpened or having been sharpened on a pull thru sharpener. But this is less than 10%. Thanks for sharing your technique.
