I recommed PFEIL (Switzerland), KIRSCHEN (Germany) or STUBAI (Austria). The tools cost a lot. But it pays off, because this carvingtools last very long. I never carved stone, I have planed to try it one day. :)
No i do not restart after a mistake. I always try to carve from the front, so I can still glue wood on the back. Little mistake I leave in the sculptures, because it gives the carving a personal touch. :)

Danke! :D Ich verwende Zirbe, denn dieses Holz ist leicht zu schnitzen und hat ein geringes Gewicht. Zurzeit ist der Preis dafür relativ hoch, da es zurzeit modern ist Zirbe-Möbel im Schlafzimmer zu haben. Für eine Krampusmaske verwende ich eine schlechtere Qualität des Holzes, da eine Krampusmaske sowieso bemalt wird. Ich kauf das Holz direkt bei einem Sägewerk. Ich habe die Schnitzschule in Elbigenalp besucht, habe aber nachher für 9 Jahre nichts mehr geschnitzt. Seit 2015 schnitze ich wieder und durch den Kanal motiviere ich mich selbst.

I use mostly "STUBAI"- tools. I don't really know what i should explain about the tools. I need a little more specific details... Like i answered the other comment from an other video, yes i have glued it together. I buying boards and planing it on a table planer. After that i glue it together and force them together with a clamp. I hope this helps ;)

Ich verwende einen Schnitzsatz von Stubai mit 20 Eisen (nr.5102). Dazu noch 2 der größten Eisen zum Anhauen und ein breites gekröpftes Eisen zum Aushöhlen.
Danke. Die erste Maske wird für Ausstellungen verwendet, so können Kunden die Maske ohne Bemalung und Polsterung ansehen. Daher wird diese auch nicht fertiggestellt.
Oh doch ;) ... Je nach Auftrag wird ein Konzept ausgearbeitet. Mal ist es ein Wolf, ein Vampier oder vielleicht sogar ein Ork. Kommt immer drauf an mit welcher Krampusgruppe man spricht.

what sort of chisels would you recommend to a novice like myself, I've cut some stone before years ago and now want to try wood.
