The last time that Susan was onscreen was in Peter Davison's era. It was the 20th anniversary story "The 5 Doctors." That speech from William Hartnell was at the opening of The 5 Doctors. William Hartnell had passed away. To me, it was a fitting tribute to Hartnell. when the episode got going the 1st Doctor is seen walking through a garden, and it's not Hartnell. It was Richard Hurndall who had been cast as The 1st Doctor (2.0) He only had the one story as the Doctor. As he died a few months later. His performance was criticised at the time but I think it was the fact that The First Doctor had been recast. Anyway back to Susan she was older but was playing Susan as though she never left.
Susans return to me is 50/50. Everyone is like "This clip right after Season 2 teaser is confirmed Susan" but... it says so right in the description that it was 60 years ago today. So it could be just that since its the first departure of a companion so it is special. Or it could be both. 50/50 for me
It's not even funny how absolutely stupid Russel would have to be to not bring Susan back. She must be in season 2, surely, all of this hinting cant be for nothing. Carole Ann Ford deserves her Swan song.
God, I hope not. Apart from the fact it's already been covered to death in the expanded universe, it would be much nicer to do this when the show isn't total crap.
One of the most powerful speechies and one of the best Doctor Who serials of all time! Hartnell is my 3rd favorite Doctor alongside Pertwee (in 1st), McGann (2nd), Troughton (4th) and Baker (5th).
Who ever comented aboit bringing susan back thats a good indication that they just might this shows us what happened to her and where and when he would have to go if they where going to do so
Love how many people in the comments are gonna be like ‘the doctor lies I guess’ when he DID come back… in the audios. And they met again in the time war. *twice.*
The question is, will the tv show acknowledge what happened in the audios (or at the very least, not outright dismiss they happened)? Because the Legend of Ruby Sunday seemed to run with the idea that the Doctor never went back for her.
Have you considered cropping out every fifth word of this speech, colourising the dismembered remains and then layering the soundtrack from Doomsday over the top of the final moments four times louder than is comfortable. Then maybe Jodie Whittaker could come in and pick up the abandoned TARDIS key and shout "Brilliant" directly into the camera?
Let's just put it like this: Better answer the question: "Why hasn't Susan returned *yet* ?" There were 60 years time after all. No bravery to write a proper story worthy her return? Caroline Ann Ford being unwilling to return? Or simply other plans that were prioritized during the more recent years of the show?
Apparently it is 60 years since i saw this transmitted; no repeats, no videos or dvds, just a memory......... never equalled for pathos in the next six decades.
This is where the theme of "never travel alone" was born. Leaving his own granddaughter behind scarred the Doctor from that day forward. The first and #1 "legendary speech" of all-time in my book!
Hopefully the Fifteenth Doctor will be the one to finally reunite with Susan. I mean it has been teased a bit too much at this point. It has to be happening somewhere down the line!
Rusty needs to hurry up and have The Doctor come back for Susan before it’s too late! The 8th Doctor came back for Susan in a big finish audio but it seems like they forgot about that (They better not have because Luice Miller was mentioned by 8 in Night of the Doctor who was a character heavily involved with 8 and Susan).
I hope they'll manage to make an episode with Susan coming back. I mean the Doctor could come back after David's death or on her death bed, then she regenerates and goes back with the doctor for one last season :P
Listen to An Earthly Child, Relative Dimensions and To The Death, that's deals with it brilliantly. They could set it after she went off to fight in the Time War
A sad scene from this story but it would have been difficult for both William Hartnell and Carole Ann Ford to underplay it I hope Susan will return and The Doctor to see his granddaughter again 😊
The last time a Hartnell clip was randomly posted, it was for the Celestial Toymaker, which dropped not long before the Toymaker was confirmed for the 60th. Could they be doing the same for Susan in Series 15?
I like that. The ones like Vicky, Victoria, Sarah Jane, Donna, Bill, Jo, ect remind him of his granddaughter in some way or form… Rose and river, hell no
I introduced my friend to doctor who and we’ve been watching all the classics and just today we reached the Dalek invasion of Earth so it was nice to watch it on its 60th anniversary too no less
In a way if this hadn't happened we may never have had regenerations years later. Can you imagine if the show all the original actors stay put. I don't think the show would have made past 1967.
Back in the late 60s in America in the school I attended the first Doctor became my Doctor in elementary school we were to watch Doctor Who because a lot of the episodes focused on History for that one year., after that I was hooked and I remember this episode I also remember it made me cry
This has been one of the plots I would have used to continue Dr. Who, giving Susan the Tardis. I don't much care for the newer seasons so I hope the show is lain to rest as a classic, maybe reinvisioned in modern movies if down well.
hate to be that one guy but the doctor did come back in the 8th doctor audios but they dont really get mentioned in the actual show so its easy for people to miss
I already watched all of Dalek Invasion of Earth last month on the 60th anniversary of part 1 World's End (21st Nov). Hope everyone's having a great Christmas🎄
Are you saying, somewhere there is a Lost Tardis key, just laying around somewhere? That could be interesting as a plot devise in and of itself! Imagine finding it in a dusty bin of keys, glowing, because the Tardis is landing close by...or did she go back and get it and keep it as a family heirloom? Some great grandkid uses it...etc.
Humm... Droping this after the season 2 trailer is suspicious I would love a return of Susan in the show (I know they already re-encountered in the audios)
One of the saddest scenes. Plus one of the Doctor’s cruelest I think. Making the choice for her. She looks so stunned and now is forced to stay with David. I always wished a future version had just time tripped right back and picked her up again. If he wanted her to have roots and a life maybe he shouldn’t have run off with her in tow. I wish the key was like the coral piece Meta Doctor got so she could grown her own TARDIS and do what she wants.
For those who are confused: today is the 60th anniversary of this episode. That's why the BBC released this clip.
I watched it I was 7 years old. I can’t remember all the details but I watched them all when I was a kid. ❤❤
@@russcooke5671Have you also kept up on the show in the many years, now?
They didn’t release it last year lol
59 isn't a a big anniversary unlike the 50th or 60th@@LosloTypical
@@LosloTypicalWhy would they make a big thing of a 59th anniversary? 🤣
Anyone else think/hope there's some significance in them dropping this particular clip RIGHT AFTER the season 2 teaser?
I really hope so
It is the 60th anniversary of that episode being shown… it could just be that, you know!
We always hope
I’m more interested at how soon after War Games in Colour this is
Yes!
The very first departure from the TARDIS, and still one of the most emotional.
The 1st Doctor's speech is nothing short of LEGENDARY!❤❤❤
Actually insane that it took until the latest season for even the slightest implication that we might see Susan again soon
Capaldi had her photo on his desk at the university in his last series. I was expecting something then.
The first departure of a companion, and the first demonstration that the show could continue with a changing cast of characters.
Goodbye Susan Goodbye my dear😢
I so look forward to Susan somehow returning to the TV series one day.

"One day I shall come back"
TV show fans: Still counting the days...
It seems River Song was right, at least so far, "Rule one: The Doctor lies."
@@andrewdreasler428I was going to say. . .

This scene broke my heart.

Exactly.

I agree
she's a person, not a commodity. she doesn't HAVE to come back, her contributions already stood the test of time
@ that is true actually
Honestly, they should have done it in 2013 when Carol Ann Ford was a spry 73-year-old. I'll always consider that a missed opportunity.
she was in the five Doctors.😊
This is my favourite scene from The Dalek Invasion of Earth
But Grandfather, all my stuff is in the TARDIS! Oh...bye then....
😉
I hope they uploading this clip is preparing us for an important reunion...
God, I hope not. Apart from the fact it's already been covered to death in the expanded universe, it would be much nicer to do this when the show isn't total crap.
I couldn't say as this is mostly cuz it's 60 years today since this episode aired.
@@DemetriusSorvoSo now, since it never has been anything of the kind?

She has been back.
@@DemetriusSorvoSaid no-one with a brain ever.
@@DemetriusSorvo er... yeah. Good luck with that hoping huh!
Maybe they could do a musical episode with the Daleks doing some hip hop, Muppets (rumoured to be in development), or crossover with a cartoon?
That look of insecurity and sadness before the speech is absolute peak human.
Who ever comented aboit bringing susan back thats a good indication that they just might this shows us what happened to her and where and when he would have to go if they where going to do so
I love that Ian and Barbara don’t even try to stop the Doctor from locking Susan out. Even they know that she belongs with David.
They better bring carol anne ford back while shes still with us. They just managed to bring the actor for ian back in time.
I feel like Susan is sort of the replacement for the Docto wanting to find Gallifrey. The big final thing that we slowly build up to.
See now it's funny because he didn't come back
Have you forgotten about the 5 doctors?
He’s getting round to it, he’s a busy man after all.
The Eighth Doctor went back to visit her in the Big Finish audios. They're worth a listen.
@@jebra7576Richard Hurndall may have been “A Doctor”, but William Hartnell was “The Doctor, the genuine article, you might say”.

not everyone listens to the audios though. i think when most people say that, they mean in the show.
Those are secondary canon, the main show doesn't follow those story. Or atleast very rarely
The question is, will the tv show acknowledge what happened in the audios (or at the very least, not outright dismiss they happened)? Because the Legend of Ruby Sunday seemed to run with the idea that the Doctor never went back for her.

Every time they reference this, people are like "Is it happening???"
its already hint in the first season about Susan.. we will comeback to this story..
Susan still has her key
please bring Susan back played by CAROLE ANN FORD
Are you implying something with this ?
🙏
I hope we see 'Susan' again while the original performer is still above ground. 🤞🤞 Now is the time, BBC/Disney+.
I glad they remember that episode but i hope they also don't forget Doctor's daughter from new S4E6
Susan left in Season 2, will she return in Season 2???

No
Things did work out although there were a few hiccups.
But David eventually died first since Susan was a timelord with her longer lifespan.
Thank god Big Finish has developed her future.
After this every single female lead companion of The Doctor has always had the same aura that Susan did. That’s why they took them in!
