The update I've been waiting for! I'm heading to a plant swap today where there will be some logs like yours, and these videos have been perfect to prepare to get one.
I recommend adding a layer of broken Styrofoam on bottom of the container(keeps the sphagnum moss from sitting in a puddle of water. Also, i recommend pumice over perlite. Great update video!!!
@@TechplantChannel You could buy another tote and turn the bin portion upside down on the first, attaching with clear packing tape, if you have the space. 😺✌️
3:20 a useful thing to remember is that plants have their own defenses, some plants are more fussy but for a lot of plants like these if they're otherwise healthy and have the energy to expend they can fend off minor amounts of rot or pest infestations on their own
I get massive logs from my mom’s monstera. Which was from her mom’s monstera. I mix up a super chunky medium for mine because I hate fighting the moss on the roots. 😅 I use a tote but I keep plastic wrap over the top so that the leaves can escape the box. I’ll cut the plastic for them to escape when they get tall enough. I also keep them on a seed starting mat. Especially during the winter time.
im a NYer in a tiny apartment with no outdoor space yet i never skip the landguard sponsor portion im learning so much about something that doesnt apply to me in the slightest lol
Yeah they are pretty cool! Maybe one day you'll decide to live in the country side and you'll be ready to go in the garden lol. Thanks for watching and thanks for the support
I find it interesting that you cut the new growth completely from the mother node. I would have cut the mother stem up and left a piece on the new growth. I wonder if that would have prevented the initial stagnation of growth?
Great video. Will have to try this with my monstera in addition to changing the soil mixture. I have an elephant ear plant with a large curved neck/stalk. Would you suggest this propagation method for it?
Is there any way to transport/store a big node like this if you cant put it in a propagation box for the first few weeks after cutting it? Thanks so much!
the ends naturally will callouse over, just keep it in a place that isnt getting hot sunlight that would dry it out. IT would be fine probably, you could keep it in a bag that is somewhat open so it can breath and stay somewhat humid
id do whatever worked for you in the past. I like to have leaves when possible. I did a mint mid cut with one leaf in a jar of water and it worked beautifully
I have a monstera ( I sadly neglected it) and it lost all of its leaves because root rot but I moved it to a smaller pot and the roots don't smell bad and I think it has a activation point can I still save it I was thinking to bump up the humidity but that could kill it
so cool, glad for this update. Cant wait for the giant pothos update whenever it happens!
Which one? The pothos race or my 3 year old giant pothos?
@@TechplantChannel pothos race!
"I can promise you theyre still being neglecting to this day" 😆🤣
Lol

Very cool, good luck!
hope the swap went well

Interesting idea
My champ! Techplant 4 ever.
Hell yeah
this was insane, can't you just leave the bin open? 😭
Then I gotta pay attention and water it

Yeap that's what I've seen over the years

Wow plastic wrap is smart
jfc matt you're my favorite mad scientist lmao
this is like the Chaotic Neutral version of Serpa
Lmaoo
That's a huge cutting! Super cool!
Thanks!
Great video! I really like the accessories for the raised garden beds!!
Thanks

Yeah think you are correct. I didn't chop it up the other way cuz I thought thr smaller chunks might succumb to rot
Best plant TH-camr no joke
Appreciate it!
“I’m pretty sure it has sealed off its whatever,” 🤣😂
Free them! 🥺🤣
Lol they are safe from mealy bugs in there

I think elephant ear plants are bulb based and you need like bulb offshoots but i have no idea
Love your videos

Thank you! Another great video 🎉
I need an update on your fasciated (is it fasciation? Can't remember...) twin-leaf Monstera blease.
there was one update a while back but ill try and make another one
Just about to propagate my Thai Constellation for the first time. I can't decide between node segment like this or keep a leaf and water propagate...
Don't water propagate Monsteras, it's a subpar method with subpar results. I hope this trend would stop.
id do whatever worked for you in the past. I like to have leaves when possible. I did a mint mid cut with one leaf in a jar of water and it worked beautifully
I literally JUST moved to a place where a giant monstera is growing, might definitely ask for a cutting🥹
You gotta!
how often you add water to the moss? and how much water?
ive been waiting for this
Sorry it took 2 years
Is there a file for the 3d printed moss pole? It's so cool!!
Not yet but I might release it in a bit. I gotta figure out the connection point better
Experiment to see if you can germinate orchid seeds in one of your mature bins.
now that would be cool. Ive had fern spores spread into them and create a full fern plant
@ If successful you could then try TC it and create a TechPlant Bin orchid cultivar and sell them. Would be so cool.

My other plants look great but I guess I just over watered it but I want to fix it if possible
👌👌👌👌
thanks!
I wish I can have the extra plant you don’t have space for.
Maybe I'll do some giveaways
Our plants are measured in centuries
Plant abuse! Someone call PETP! 😂
