      Why thank you, Jane. It's funny - I am sometimes tempted to add ambient music to speeded-up parts and whenever I ask about it in a video I get a very loud NO AMBIENT MUSIC, PLEASE from watchers. I suspect it takes a little bit of nerve to risk silence and shutting up and letting the work take centre stage. Thanks for the vote of confidence! 😎 Kelly

    Just sat down with my cuppa tea (from England!!) and your video popped up! Now I have to patiently wait for it to dry although I have already a few dried and clean tea bags but couldn't remember how to use them! Now to remember where I put them. Great idea although I am late to the party! What an awesome idea to print on the teabag....my printer won't even print on photo paper so I will not even attempt but it's a fab idea! Looks like it's snowing ice pellets again so I will continue catching up watching your videos. Thanks for your inspirations!

      Why thank you, Cat. This is one of the nicest messages I could have had. While I have seen some gorgeous cute journals they just aren't me - and as this is my day job I am very much aware that I could bounce my numbers and viewership today if I followed in that direction but I just feel that at my age, very little is as important as living and creating in a truer way, the truest that can be wrangled and so I go (and teach) my off-the-beaten-track altered book way. This is a good video which is showing the process of recycling. Thank you for sending me this video In today's comment I have to mention you two things especially it's about achievements our Sri Lankan Anti government protesters could swipe the polluted government successfully. They were conquered the presidential mansion as their first target so however now the president of Sri Lanka Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksha is already escaped from Sri Lanka to Singapore. In the last time he was escaped to Maldives but ultimately he had to leave from Maldives due to severe public protests. I think now the 50 present of our major problems of Sri Lankan has already solved. The other thing is i could find a huge amount of old coins and antiques. I deem it's the most successful achievement in my life on the field of collecting antiques.

      Dear Almeda, congratulations on the progress in your country. Yes, we have read about the attacks on the president and stopping his attempt to escape the terrible trouble he has created (with his family, also). And congratulations on your finding of coins! I make a gallon of iced tea a day, so I’ve got a great supply of large bags. I’m in central TX, the highs are up to 106 degrees Fahrenheit daily, so I’ve gotta have my iced tea, lol!

      Holy macaroni, 106? I better stop complaining about how chilly this summer has been here in Wales. Two things that are not big here are ice tea and Altoids. I make my own tea and whenever a friend visits from the states, they better be bringing cinnamon Altoids, that's all I gotta say. Oh, there is a course on altering Altoid tins in my pipeline, hopefully this fall and it will cover everything, including tons of ways to cover the raised print on the cover. Stay tuned!

    Great video! I love these tips as I've starting using tea bag paper in my art/junk journals, bookmarks and greeting cards for friends and family. So far have just glued over images to make them more vintage but shall begin stamping on them, rubbing on them with stamp pad ink and even printing with ink jet. Also will try letting them dry in a bit of tea for the great splotches of dark stains. I fear they might mold but worth experimenting. After all "they are only tea bags".

    Hi Kelly, thanks for all the great ideas for tea bags. I never thought to print on them. I am not a fan of tea at all. I never tea dye anything. Can’t stand the smell. Lol 😝 So I dump them out and coffee dye them. I crumple, twist, fold etc… They turn out awesome. Also I learned the hard way which of my inks are not water proof. Haha 😂

    What a great video Kelly and now you have given me a good excuse to drink even more tea than I normally do (oh the sacrifices I make for art 😏) I tried printing on tracing paper with the masking tape method and it worked really well so I will definitely be ironing my old tea bags and giving them a go. I wonder if tissue paper would work to though it maybe a little fragile.

    • @BookandPaperArts
      @BookandPaperArts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thanks bunches, Miss Yvie. I know all about those sacrifices for the creative muse. (Just ask me about my wine cork collection.) Yes, tissue paper does print well but you have to tape it to the printer paper. I know, I found out the hard way because I didn't want to believe I needed that extra step. That was ONE epic paper jam. 🙄😮

    • @BookandPaperArts
      @BookandPaperArts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Nabby. Tea definitely has tannins which I believe are acidic. Not archival but on the other hand will last longer than I do. I have projects made with tea bags from 20 years ago that are just fine. So - okay for fun but maybe not for fine art. Kelly🌷🌼🌻

    Great info! Thank you for making this video! The tea bags I have saved in the past never have much depth of color (I use black tea), but I'm going to try your pouring method to see if that helps. I love love love the color you got on that oblong tea bag that you glued into the book. It's such a rich brown. That's what I want to get on mine. Do you know what brand of tea that one was? I love the long shape of it. Looking forward to the rest of the series. 🥰

    • @BookandPaperArts
      @BookandPaperArts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Lori, That big, dark bag was one of the loose tea infusers that I mentioned elsewhere in the video. You can get them at some shops and definitely on Etsy or Ebay. They don't cost a lot and they last a long time and come in a bunch of sizes. But any black tea bag should go this kind of brown once you glue it down, it becomes similar to a dark linen colour. Hope this helps!

      Hello, Irene. Thank you so for your kind words. I was a teensy bit concerned that I was being overly earnest about tea bags and am glad to see that this was not the case. Yes, I really wanted a bracelet made from words and couldn't find one so made one myself out of old dictionary pages.

    Quick Q, Kelly. It didn't look like you put any finish, such as Mod Podge or PVA glue, whatever, over the top of your art pieces. Isn't that a good idea, just to protect them, or just not necessary? I'm excited to see lessons 2 and 3 to follow this one! Thank you.

    • @BookandPaperArts
      @BookandPaperArts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Lynn. I rarely do and one of the reasons is that an acrylic based glue or gel will protect but it can also be quite sticky even after it has dried (I found out the hard way) and it has made pages stick together in projects where it was not welcome. How about you?

    🤯 you mentioned printing on tissue paper in another vid, and I was thinking to myself: "I wonder if she just sticks the tissue onto a printer page, and just puts in a regular home printer?"
    and I decided I would try that myself, regardless of how you do it. and now, you're telling us 🥴
    what shall I do with all that inventiveness of mine?!! I'll have to listen to you and just go do something 🤭
    and a question:
    why do you keep cutting the decorative paper elements, BEFORE gluing? it's not accurate and quite wasteful.
    I found it gives me a lot of maneuvering space and adds to the creative process to glue the base on the decorative paper and only then, cut off the excess paper. sometimes it "tells" me only after gluing, if it wants to be cut off, torn, or fussi-cut.
    what is your thought behind cutting first and gluing after?

    • @BookandPaperArts
      @BookandPaperArts  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2
