Here's another helpful tip for all the builders out there. Instead of having buffer chambers with traps and pillars, you could place double walls at a 45 degree angle with walls on each 1x1, so you have 10 walls before the raiders get to the core instead of 8 and some traps. Great video as always!
I"m a player with over 4000 hours and ill share a few more tips 1.pyramid the top of your base to place plant x this will help with knockback 2 Build an additional anky guard above your base. every layer helps 3. this video is quite wrong about gates, They actually snap together. with all the layers of walls, the buffer . i usually can stack over 10 gates and you can link them to open together via pinpad 4. I always build A center generator room. usually a 4x4 , then surround it by turrets . 5. If you fill the generator you can drop a vault on it and have it super protected for weeks. 6. after the vaults while not add another wall layer with window frames to access the vault. 7. use codes to label your vaults, never directly name then and pin code everything. will add to this list as i remember them
Another good trick not mentioned here is build all your entrances elevated, but then build the outside ramps to them out of a weaker material like wood. When explosives are used on your doors the means of getting to it are also destroyed.

ThickFreedom there is a loot trap, make the thing to where if they break the window frame, it all falls down but the walls the ceiling and the doors, so they are trapped leave a dodo in the trap that is on aggressive so you know when they are in the trap, then kill the victim
With ceilings higher than 2 walls, put armored x plants I the corners of each room, so while ur smaller animals are attacking, they slow the enemy. Secondly, tame Troodons by feeding them dodos, so while Dimorphs attack from the air, Troodons do Stamina and Torpor damage, while u can use some Pegomastax to steal their weapons! The tiny Dino's work great as a team!

The real issue is getting enough materials to make triple layered metal foundations, quadruple layered metal walls, buffer zones, ectra... the amount of resources, especially chitin/keratin is absolutely insane.
Surprisingly I already knew about all of these tricks. Nonetheless, this video puts them in an organized, easy to understand format and doesn't waste time explaining unnecessary things. Great job.
there's one of my personal favorite ways to hide a bed where you put down a fence foundation and on top of it a bed, then you can build your foundations right over it so you have a hidden bed inside the foundations
Building a pyramid allows you to do all these things very easily AND have your turrets able to shoot in all directions. Also troodons are an amazing tame for the bufferzone

I just recently started playing ark and all of this I figured out on my own from playing other survival/building games. Layers and buffers are just common sense. Good tips, the armored plant x is a great one especially. There are better ways to do walls and ceilings though.
This was interesting and taughfull! Im in 4 player tribe, new to ark (4months in now.) Our base is in a cave with 2 ways to it. Our grand defence strategy= turrets. A ton of turrets. About 200 of them, 100 in each side. They are layered horizontally. Because you have to either decend waterfalls from the otherway, or climp up using ziplines from the other side. So far has worked well. But end of the day our base is limited in space because of the location. All our dinos are exposed. I love our wyverns and gigas etc but they are quite vulnerable if those turrets are emptied. So we started to build dino hall couple steps down to the underground biome, definetly gona use these tips in our favor!

To be honest, I knew all but the plant one. A good strat for indoors defense is to have a big bulky phiomia, levelled on HP, combined with multiple dimorphs, levelled for DMG and speed. Results being that the phiomia will block any shots the player can have on the dimorph by tanking hits while the dimorphs deal the damage.
#1 Is amazing, but it raises a few questions for the lamens such as myself! 1) Is this just a set-and-forget defence? Plant the seed, close the lid, no more maintenance? Which begs the next question 2) Irrigation, with the trapdoor there does it not block the plant from being rained on? Do you need to do anything further to keep these functioning? 3) Is it possible to combine multiple walls/ceilings/fences to add extra protection to your Plant X's? Will these extra layers help protect from being brought down with explosive? Secondly? Have you done or do you know any videos of how to implement good cable management, I hate seeing all these hideous cables running through my base but don't know how to hide them!
Josh Cauchi Cables can be sorta glitched under terrain, which you can use vertical wires to bring them back up above ground. I recommend making a wire system with X sections as they're much easier to build, since you're essentially building under the terrain blindly
I did the four wall thing (I knew it before this video) And instead of four walls, i placed a door frame and a door, then placed some more walls behind the door. A simple, maybe harmless troll.
my guy what u gotta do, make thatch ceilings above the buffer chambers with vaults on them, then once you have that set up damage the ceilings to as low as possible, once that's done any c4 that goes off in the buffer chamber will drop vaults on that area increasing total defense in specific spots as well as trapping anyone underneath the ceiling at the time of explosion
Could anybody give me some advice on something? I haven't been able to convince my tribe that our main base shouldn't be basically a glorified Dino-Barn.... with three or four big gateways to come into. And I really like these designs I've seen where there are maybe 2 or three ways into your base, but all of them consist of multiple highly-protected normal-sized doorways. So, what do you do with your dinos, then? Shove them out in an outbuilding / protected barn? And just how much should you layer and protect that? Don't want them wiping out all your dinos, right? So if they're over there in the other building and you're defending inside your super-secure main building, how do you get over to them quickly and relatively safely during a raid? Teleport into a bed and suit up? These are the sort of PvP base building questions I'd like to see answered... after seeing quite a few of these PVP base build design videos.
I would make a dino Barn and layer it if possible, you could also make a hallway leading to it from your main base. I would definately layer the hallway heavily. Then at every foundation set two doorframes on a fence foundation to make it super secure. Now you have a secure house,dino barn, and passage inbetween those two :)
Pyro Paragon why wouldn't it be a bad thing, all it means is that new players who arn't aware of the unintentional buggable base building are at a severe disadvantage when they go to raid someone and then realise that person has like 5 wall layers which then means the meta all centers around something that is a bug
Sure they should. but not like this. this is clearly not part of the game. its a bug that some players are not happy beeing forced to exploit. If people did this on my server i would take that shit down or ban them. you might as well be hacking .
I came up with an interesting idea, the gateway in #7 tip, I use the ramps like that at my entrance, but the entrance you see is a trap, the real entrance is under the ramp you have to crouch and walk under the ramp to get in. I also like building mazes and painting everything black inside so you never know where you are inside it.

I have another tip, after finishing all the layered walls and making your awesome base cover your whole base with wooden signs, bc it takes out there c4,rockets,arthros(time) and thing to get inside of your base easily, it buys u time and wastes the enemy’s mats.
Always use spikes around. Any important path or approach needs metal spikes, also cover nearby rock ledges with them to avoid snipers camping there. And since wooden ones are cheap af, just use them as floor around your base. I once added 12 rows of wooden spikes and a few metal ones around my compound and put foundations underneath. Then i used 1 single pillar to hold aloft the bridge i used to walk over the spikes myself. During an attack, just remove that single pillar and the whole brige collapses, so use stone. Now you are surrounded by spikes. To remove them they have to waste explosives or chew them down with dinos, which deals quite a lot of dmg to dinos, and touching them correlates with your dinos size, so its nearly impossible charge over them, even with rex/bronto/spino or even giga. Also consider arthropluera on turret mode to wreck armor, just put them in a shag made of windowframes and hatchframes so they cant be picked away but can spit in every direction. Now thats even possible with wyverns, it might even be good to hatch one inside and not let him get out, so when they blast down the door he fries them alive. If serversettings allow it you might even consider weighing dragons down with stones and just enable the breath attack for a stationary living turret, just quite risky as everything beside fire ones, which have no reach, are weak against fire arrows. And the other 2 are weak against bullets from far away too. Bonus tip for Offline raid protection servers: If one of your tribemates wants to quit, let him build a defensive wall around with pincoded gates, thats not belonging to your tribe.
spikes are terrible lol, such a PVE thing to advise. grenades are cheap and wood spikes are easy to break. just dont be an idiot and build on the ground. go on a spire and build a base there. if you are on the ground you are an idiot if you are not a mega tribe

now here is what you do you get armored plant X's around the base then you make the thatch turret wall trap thing followed up by 4 layer walls with vaults behind, that is just the walls to the base next is a base with triple foundations 4 layer walls and vaults and lots of Dimorphodons stacked with hp as the next layer and after that you can have your regular base but make sure you do it in a place with very hard to live environments are like in ragnarok the desert or snow so they got a hard environment
ive got a trap idea, so you build a buffer chamber around your base (2 wide, 2 high) and on the outer line of your buffer chamber you put thath ceilings above your door with above the ceiling a lot of dimorphodons etc so that the raiders get a nice little surprise when they get in....
Dragonfly's Gamer the titan was made to be a mobile fortress until the devs made it so psx and turrets would not work on platform saddles so they then made it into the most op dino in game that is known to spawn on peoples bases and there are exploits out there so you can drop a titan on someones base
I've got friends who say they log in every day to download stuff, and at the end of the day they upload it. If you're that dedicated you can never get offline raided completely. but you can't upload a base and I just like to have a base to come back to... wonder about that offline raid protection, but just wish this game worked vanilla
in stead of a thatch switch you should put gate ways that open electrically and have a wall of turrets on the other side that you can operate it from inside the base and not have to waste all that metal to hide your guns
You fill the buffer chanbers with microraptors and trodons, 3 airlocks, it's a 6*6 base with so many defenses but on the inside there is nothing but a box with a note saying "got eem".

Bridge to entrance made of wood so when c4 is used it destroys the bridge and make it harder to get through main entrance. Main point, make it so your base becomes stronger as the raid goes on
Counter to triple layer founds destroy the first foundation that is the highest it will destroy the walls and destroy inside traps and your 3 of 5 walls into your inner core so I mean good concept
Best thing to do in buffer chambers. Kentros dillos Troodons if you want to hate your life. But narc bombs are easier. I like to get a megalosaurus or 2 and toss them in there as well. If you dont have a gate just cryopod them. Maybe a micro raptor pack incase they do manage to get some dinos in your base.
7:03 did you had a graphical glitch with the shine of the sun...? it happens on me all the time on center map and i thought that my graphic card was broken... but i guess it is just a game glitch or whatever u call it...
So here are my ideas 1: have the dimorrphs IN the buffer chamber and have Turrets INSIDE the base too. 2: DO A RADING TECHNIQE VIDEO I have some ideas for it like using dodo bombs (strapping C4 onto dodos) and suicide Dimorphs (c4 on dimorphs to take out their dinos) and oh, the things to do with c4 are endless Also KEEP UP THE AWESOME WORK!!!
dimetrodon suprise boxes. just build somple four by four thatch houses near your base and foll them with dimetrodons and bats. or use thatch walls and ceilings on a metal foundation then put a metal turret in there wired to a central generator. or put both really. usually they will destroy the thatch by targetting them or stepping on them and will release the pain. also massive battle towers are great

No need to water it, the rain penetrates the hatchframe because it's not an enclosed structure.
Use thatch ceilings above doorways with a vault ontop of them, when they c4 your door it drops the vault where the door was

I came up with an interesting idea, the gateway in #7 tip, I use the ramps like that at my entrance, but the entrance you see is a trap, the real entrance is under the ramp you have to crouch and walk under the ramp to get in. I also like building mazes and painting everything black inside so you never know where you are inside it.

I have another tip, after finishing all the layered walls and making your awesome base cover your whole base with wooden signs, bc it takes out there c4,rockets,arthros(time) and thing to get inside of your base easily, it buys u time and wastes the enemy’s mats.

Always use spikes around. Any important path or approach needs metal spikes, also cover nearby rock ledges with them to avoid snipers camping there. And since wooden ones are cheap af, just use them as floor around your base. I once added 12 rows of wooden spikes and a few metal ones around my compound and put foundations underneath. Then i used 1 single pillar to hold aloft the bridge i used to walk over the spikes myself. During an attack, just remove that single pillar and the whole brige collapses, so use stone. Now you are surrounded by spikes. To remove them they have to waste explosives or chew them down with dinos, which deals quite a lot of dmg to dinos, and touching them correlates with your dinos size, so its nearly impossible charge over them, even with rex/bronto/spino or even giga. Also consider arthropluera on turret mode to wreck armor, just put them in a shag made of windowframes and hatchframes so they cant be picked away but can spit in every direction. Now thats even possible with wyverns, it might even be good to hatch one inside and not let him get out, so when they blast down the door he fries them alive. If serversettings allow it you might even consider weighing dragons down with stones and just enable the breath attack for a stationary living turret, just quite risky as everything beside fire ones, which have no reach, are weak against fire arrows. And the other 2 are weak against bullets from far away too.
Bonus tip for Offline raid protection servers: If one of your tribemates wants to quit, let him build a defensive wall around with pincoded gates, thats not belonging to your tribe.

spikes are terrible lol, such a PVE thing to advise. grenades are cheap and wood spikes are easy to break. just dont be an idiot and build on the ground. go on a spire and build a base there. if you are on the ground you are an idiot if you are not a mega tribe

now here is what you do you get armored plant X's around the base then you make the thatch turret wall trap thing followed up by 4 layer walls with vaults behind, that is just the walls to the base next is a base with triple foundations 4 layer walls and vaults and lots of Dimorphodons stacked with hp as the next layer and after that you can have your regular base but make sure you do it in a place with very hard to live environments are like in ragnarok the desert or snow so they got a hard environment

ive got a trap idea, so you build a buffer chamber around your base (2 wide, 2 high) and on the outer line of your buffer chamber you put thath ceilings above your door with above the ceiling a lot of dimorphodons etc so that the raiders get a nice little surprise when they get in....
what if there is a titan that is dropped on the base cant do much then lol

Dragonfly's Gamer the titan was made to be a mobile fortress until the devs made it so psx and turrets would not work on platform saddles so they then made it into the most op dino in game that is known to spawn on peoples bases and there are exploits out there so you can drop a titan on someones base

I've got friends who say they log in every day to download stuff, and at the end of the day they upload it. If you're that dedicated you can never get offline raided completely. but you can't upload a base and I just like to have a base to come back to... wonder about that offline raid protection, but just wish this game worked vanilla

in stead of a thatch switch you should put gate ways that open electrically and have a wall of turrets on the other side that you can operate it from inside the base and not have to waste all that metal to hide your guns

Counter to triple layer founds destroy the first foundation that is the highest it will destroy the walls and destroy inside traps and your 3 of 5 walls into your inner core so I mean good concept

Best thing to do in buffer chambers. Kentros dillos Troodons if you want to hate your life. But narc bombs are easier. I like to get a megalosaurus or 2 and toss them in there as well. If you dont have a gate just cryopod them. Maybe a micro raptor pack incase they do manage to get some dinos in your base.

So here are my ideas 1: have the dimorrphs IN the buffer chamber and have Turrets INSIDE the base too. 2: DO A RADING TECHNIQE VIDEO I have some ideas for it like using dodo bombs (strapping C4 onto dodos) and suicide Dimorphs (c4 on dimorphs to take out their dinos) and oh, the things to do with c4 are endless Also KEEP UP THE AWESOME WORK!!!

dimetrodon suprise boxes. just build somple four by four thatch houses near your base and foll them with dimetrodons and bats. or use thatch walls and ceilings on a metal foundation then put a metal turret in there wired to a central generator. or put both really. usually they will destroy the thatch by targetting them or stepping on them and will release the pain. also massive battle towers are great
