I hate it when people say "should have done your due diligence" when talking about air traffic noise. I did, my house was quiet for years until flight patterns shifted, now it has constant aircraft noise. If you draw a straight line I live 12 miles from the airport.
Fact is, if you are buying a house within a 20 or so mile radius of an airport, your house could become in the middle of a flight path if it isn't right now.

The exact same thing happened to me. I bought my home 6'years ago ( about 15 miles from ORD) and 6 months ago i suddenly have hundreds of jets directly over my roof from 6am-11pm.

Actually, the windows seemed to block out a lot of the noise. But forget opening your windows or spending any time out on that lovely deck.

So glad I moved away from O'Hare. I did all my due diligence... Unfortunately the City of Chicago decided to add new runways about 5 years after I moved in. When I went to sell, my property value really suffered. All else was wonderful about the house , school dist, etc.

As an avgeek I would love this house. It's so beautiful and has all those noisy birds flying above.
I live near an airport right now but not so close. I still hear them and see them but by the time they reach my house they are already pretty high.

@mike could you please tell me the neighborhood (street) this is in? I am considering a property in Raleigh also within the flight path. Tough to get a handle on frequency of planes flying overhead from RDU. I don't believe it is closer to RDU than this neighborhood, but would love the comparison.

I was hoping for some TIPS on HOW to do your due diligence. If I am unfamiliar with the town or I am moving out of state. Is there a website, an App or a phone number something or someone we can call to find out if our potential new home is in a flight path. I am planning on building out a recording studio in my home so this is super important. Thanks.

More then the noise, I would be more scared about the invisible killer that none is mentioning, just in Heathrow every minute a flight is taking off burning some tons of kerosene just on top of your head. Non is talking about it but if you calculate just a few tons every minute, how much pollution it would create it in every minute, in every hour, in a all day... in 3 London airports and we are just breathing it!
Kerosene is cancerous, and there are more victims from cancer every year than C o v i d.
Theoretically a flight lockdown should be fair

Do a little more research and you will find that the #1 byproduct of those engines' combustion is WATER VAPOR. There are advances in technology in everything, including jet engines. They have to be way too efficient too be putting anything but CO2 and water out the back. This is not 1965
