There's a very famous incident with a British Airways 777 flying on that exact approach running into a fuel issue resulting in a loss of thrust in both engines, the pilot very very narrowly avoided theses houses and landed just short of the runway, No deaths thankfully and only 2 injuries.

I know this street and I’ve visited to watch aircraft, amazing location. The houses are very attractive and well maintained, built before Heathrow Airport became a major airport. There is no flying at night so residents will have uninterrupted sleep. The take offs and landings are rotated around the airport every few days so that residents are not subject to constant aircraft flying overhead.Great footage.

Well, that's something for the residents. However, not enough! These big companies don't give a rats ass about people. It took legislation, I'll bet, to get them to give the consideration now in place!

Parts of my family live quite close to this area in Osterley, when I was a child you could see one airplane coming and another going. Years later it was four planes at the same time and the noise used to be quite bad but these days it is quiet. And yes, the houses are very nice and quite pricey.

I remember back when I was working construction over the summer last year. We were adding an extra floor to an apartment block and I was helping out with the plumbing. Every time I was on lunch break for around an hour, I'd get my food, go right to the top of the roof on the scaffold, and just sit there and eat while these massive planes were landing right above my head. The apartments were right next to runway 27R, if I remember correctly. That was the best job ever.

My grandparents owned a detached house in Hounslow, and they had a large pear tree in the bottom left of the garden. These aircrafts used to fly directly over it, and as children we used to believe the pilots used that tree as a guide line for the runway. Happy memories, expect its long gone by now. Garden also had an air raid shelter in it. Another story was of a doodlebug heading right towards the back of the house with my grandparents and dad watching from the rear windows, when it cut out and headed directly at them. Then a gust of wind took it, and it landed and exploded in a nearby field. Just as well otherwise my self and 4 other siblings, and approx 25 (Yes lose count as we all scattered across the globe) other offspring wouldn't be alive today.

I lived in San Diego for 42 years and was a plane spotter in my younger days. While the planes fly low over a certain area of the city, they don’t fly 100 ft over any buildings. The closest they fly is to the parking garage previously mentioned, which is about 100 yds from the end of the runway. There is about a 50-75 yard clearance above that structure. There is no denying it’s dangerously close and pilots complain almost constantly. I heard many years ago that airlines purposely hire ex navy carrier pilots for the SD route because of the building clearances and the shorter than usual runway. If you’ve ever landed in SD, they descend quite quickly after clearing that parking garage. It can be a little daunting for people who don’t like flying. But on another note, I really liked having the different airbus models ID’ed. I’m not familiar with airbus too much so it was a treat. Thanks for the great vid.

We lived on Iver Lane, but a few miles from the airport but almost never had overflying..... apart from the occasional weekend light a/c droning over, (that's how empty the skies WERE, back then, but just next door, so to speak).

The brain simply takes no more notice after a while. I lived in a flat right on top a busy railway line for a while. Trains thundered past at high speed every few 10 minutes. If you were on the phone you had to interrupt the conversation because it got drowned out. The first week it drove me nuts. A couple of weeks later I didn’t really notice the trains anymore. A few months in, I woke up in the middle of the night while staying in my very rural village home. The reason, no trains. The lack of the regular noise woke me up 😅

I worked in Heathrow Central Area '70 til ''92. There used to be a workers hostel by the 27R threshold (28R as was) at Hatton Cross and another in the 27L undershoot (28L as was) at Hatton Cross. Airport shift workers were expected to get rested in their time off there. A lot of folks don't realise how much noisier the older pure jets were in comparison to modern fans. It could be painful at times.

You’re right, when you live so close & on the Heathrow flight path you really become so accustomed to the noise every 5 minutes or so that you almost don’t notice it. If you’re talking when a plane goes over you automatically raise your voice without realising it! I moved away from London for over 40 years but moved back to a different part of London 11 years ago. If I ever go near Heathrow now I really notice how noisy the planes are, something that never bothered me before!
