    I have used a ShotKam since 2018. I think it is a great help in learning about my techniques (good and bad) as well as proper hold points for starting on a pair of targets. For me, it is worth every dollar. Customer Support is very helpful answering questions. I also love the TGS videos. Learned a lot of details about shotgunning. You are a good shooter. Keep the videos coming. Jim Sutton Georgia USA

    From what I have read on the Shotkam... there was a lot of R&D on the lens morphology to get it matched to what the actual human eye sees. I also think that much of the product costs go into the robustness of the unit. I doubt a normal "action cam" style unit would hold up after the recoil of (hopefully) thousands of rounds. All that being said, I also have a hard time justifying the purchase for myself. I am very lucky that it is available for $20USD a day at my favorite sporting clays course. I make use of this rental opportunity once a month or so or if there is a particular target presentation I am having trouble with. The course Owner/ Pro is very generous with his time and is willing to take a look at the footage and give advice. Great product review... I always enjoy the TGS videos.

    I started using a session cam in a 3d printed mount this past summer after starting to shoot clays and it helped a ton to see where I am at while still at the point where I feel rushed while shooting (skeet). The only draw back with that cam is the compression losses often lead to the clay disappearing in the video. Even on a short skeet field. I am looking at adding the shotkam soon as it is specifically designed to see a small target at distance. There is a video on my profile of it in use.

      I suspect that the current Shotcam may prove a bit disappointing for you, because it too has the shot fade out over a distance. My hunch is that it's a resolution limit effect, once a shot pellet is smaller than 1 pixel it disappears. The only solution for that is increased resolution and much larger file sizes. The good news is that on stations 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6 you can see your misses, it's just high 1 and low 7 that can get too far out to fade out the string. By shooting with the 410 I've found the much smaller shot string is very revealing for errors. In my case one error is a tendency to shoot a touch low on stations 3, 4, & 5, so I've started being more attentive on how I position my leads vertically. After learning some lessens with the the 410 I then mounted the 28 gage barrels and ended up by shooting a 24 and recorded it. Note, just got in some Skeet Improved chokes from Briley and I can now let the target on high 1 get darned near to the low house and smash that target into bits. My tip for 410 is to shoot a bit tighter choke, you'll have to tighten up your shooting a tiny bit but the reward is much more positive breaks and I would guess an additional 15-20 feet of range.

    I have a Shotkam and the first thing you notice is the quality of the build , "made in USA" they should be proud of this product . The picture quality is very good too . As far as use ; it films from when you close the gun but only records from the point when it senses recoil then saves the footage from 2 seconds before the shot and 3 seconds afterwards . Your saved footage only shows each shot in a septate numbered file. If you are having a problem hitting a particular clay you need to keep shooting at the same target trying different lead until you hit ,then play the footage and learn the lead . You pick up on a few more things also when reviewing the shots , like how many clays you think you missed when if fact you hit them but could not see that from behind the gun. the Shotkam records the footage slower than real time and magnified . If your score improves then it is well worth the money , but you do get to relive the days shooting at no extra cost . You almost enjoy watching the good shots as much as you did when you were behind the gun.

  • @davidmorris5895
    @davidmorris5895 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The camera once turned on is basically in stand by mode. It recognises when you break and close the gun and turns itself on to record and stays on for 20sec ( have to double check that ) it then recognises the single or double shot and stays on for a set period after that and then resets and starts over again. If you use it on a game shoot and load up and then wait for the birds to come over you will have to bump your gun with your hand to activate the camera. ShotKam have loads of videos on the line. Keep up the good work.

    I have one. I have also taken professional instruction - from a Superb AAA shooter. This is great - I am coming back to shooting after many years, I have a tendency to miss in front - difficult for me to see. A couple of comments on something, I think, this review missed. You can review instantly with local WiFi, if you have a phone with you, it is astonishing. Secondly, it can be done in slow motion - frame by frame - to see the actual shot in relation to the target.

    My first thought was "I have to have one". Then I thought "could use it for practical as well as clays, vermin and game". Then "I wonder if it would work on a mini rifle". Guess I will have to get one and see what else it can be used for. Will you be selling them in the shop?

  • @simonbennett223
    @simonbennett223 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Used a shotkam a fair bit. They do effect the gun balance . They will show barrel clay relationship when you hit, they will not necessarily show were you miss unless fairly close. How far you can see the shot string depends on the sky conditions. Slow mo analysis is better. I tend to use it on only one or two problem targets per session as it is easy to get information overload. Shoot then analyse at ground on a laptop then shoot again until you can hit the target. Then take shotkam off and shoot again and then you have taught yourself how to hit that problem target. A good instructor is quicker and better but a lot more money and not always available.

    Shotkam is excellent. it helped my game a lot, and I use it a lot to help other beginners. seeing misses on video speaks far more clearly than just explaining to them why they missed. not only that, they clearly see exactly how much they missed.

    I love my @shotkam! I received mine about the same time you received yours. It is a great teaching tool to show the exact shot picture. It changed how I perceive the shot taking place. I use the crosshair site to help see if the shot is on the right line and the correct quadrant of the crosshair. I wish I bought it sooner to help myself and in teaching.
    Also, it helps to review shot target videos before going out to shot because it “warms up” you eyes and brain to work together to make real shots on the course.
    Good stuff once again.

    Nice review. Had one for a few years. Very useful if you know roughly how to shoot, see the footage and then realise you use the wrong technique etc Also really nice to work on a clay you have not been able to hit, get the footage onto your phone and then see what is going wrong, takes some of the trial and error out of it. Looks good shooting game too and a different angle to add to videos etc.

    The amount of "free advice" at the range is generally you are shooting too far behind. The you get the shotkam and I can see the the actual shot and know that you shot underneath but the lead was right.

    Had one & it was amazing until the locking ring started to come loose. Their US-based customer service was patchy and rather bolshy, which was a surprise. Given the stresses I could see why the ring could come loose & wondered why it hadn't be adhered with Locktite or a key/spanner to tighten it up (they must have them to use in assembly) supplied. Ended up sending it back which costs almost another £100 to the US. They really are amazing tools to help improve your shooting but at the premium price they should be bulletproof & have better UK based support. Innovators deserve to be rewarded but there will eventually competition (probably from China but hopefully elsewhere) will see more reasonable prices & wider usage (something that will benefit more shooters). Finally I don't really understand why so many shooting instructors are so opposed to this sort of kit that can genuinely help shooters. Having worked around education for 25 years an shot for over 40 (inc. having completed BASC's shotgun instructor course, DSC etc) there is a huge problem with how we teach shooting . For example BASC's course focuses on student 'learning styles' a concept that has been comprehensively disproved by 40 years of research. Having such an important course from a key shooting organisation being based on bad science & evidence shows just how far behind the times most shooting instruction is. This really matters & innovations like Shotkam (despite their physical & technical limitations) are important advances that we all need to embrace if we want to improve our shooting and shooting in general.

      Hi Richard, thanks for your comment. Upon looking back on the customer notes, I can see that the spanner ring came loose and we're so sorry that happened. We've since resolved the issue and launched a UK support team. Additionally, it looks like we fully refunded you for the return shipping cost which was £30, so you should have received the PayPal refund around June 2020. Lastly, we have about 12 patents and China cannot have guns, so no knock-offs will pop-up in the future :). Thanks for watching!

    I use shotkam differently from your demonstration. There is so much that goes into a miss (Did you life your head, were you just moving your left hand and not rotating from the hip, etc, etc) that downloading to see where I am on a clay is not useful to me. Shot by shot advice is what I have a coach for and she is much better at it. Anyway, download speeds on my shotkam version suck! What I do is review the session at home in the evening. Did I have a consistent hold point? Was I actually doing the Method I thought I was (I'm shocked at how often I fail on this and wing it with swing through convincing myself that it was a great method shot), do I transition to the right secondary hold point when shooting on reports? This gives me an idea of what I need to work on for next time; it helps that I shoot the same course once a week. To my coaches ... diaspointment ... I use it during lessons (i do not want the weighting to change); results have been very interesting as I see how their advice changes the way I take a clay and this reinforces the lesson for me at a later time. As a pick-me-up I recently looked at shots from 12 months ago. Yes, I'm improving (thanks coach). Finally, my son with whom I used to shoot works abroad; shotkam is one way of sharing a session with him. A small thing but valuable to me. Finally, finally, if you shoot with Shotkam regularly you will need to remove it for CPSA competitions.

    ⛔Be careful, only support for ShotKam units that stop working is to bounce back and forth via an email conversation with support until being directed to a blog page instructing you on how to send your unit back to ShotKam in Florida, at your personal expense, for a diagnosis. Not a good support/return process at all, especially if you are in the UK with international shipping.

There is a curiosity element to this as well, how did I miss? Why did I miss? In fairness the solution to this should come from practice and the shooters own eye (or an instructor stood beside you) YMMV but for me this vid has helped me decide that it’s not for me. Great for the novice shooter maybe? Unsure as you still have to interpret the miss, that comes with experience. Niche product possibly. Great vid as always JC at the team.

    • @ShootingAndReloading
      @ShootingAndReloading 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MKChase-uj9vx I don't think the ShotKam has a hope in hell of capturing shot in flight at all. I understand the specifications are 1080p at 100 fps (frames per second) or 720p at 180 fps. Even at 180 frames per second, that is a delay of 0.0056s between frames in which time shot with an MV of 1350 fps (feet per second) would travel 7.5 feet. You'd see a blur per frame at best and you can see in the footage here... well, you can't, that's my point ;)
      For rifle shooting, as per clay shooting, I'd be interested in reviewing the moment the gun goes bang, movement before and after and the target impact point.
      I suspect the camera field of view would be too wide for rifle use though. Perhaps OK for short range shooting like gallery rifle?

      @@rolandkee335everything is a non sense, video resolution is 480 or less with unbearable discoloration ,the micro usb nowadays is a has been so imagine what about the mini usb .....phones at this price shoot 8k video so i expect at least 4k with a device which has less features.

      @@benburra6655 It's mad. I bet all of them would be better with a 600 quid ATA and some lessons. In fact i'd bet money on it.
      Nothing wrong with having nice things of course.

      They often discount it down to well below £500, subscribe to their newsletter and they'll tell you when it's discounted 👍

      I got one for $650CDN (400 quid?); that's a pretty good value actually. it's made in the USA and is designed to take thousands of rounds of punishment. a friend of mine who is an instructor at the local shotgun club has a few and when their battery wears out he just sends them in for replacement and often gets the newest model of camera sent instead of a battery replacement; their customer service has been excellent.
