    Nice work, Mark. Your own audio setup is the best I've heard on TH-cam; the labour involved is well worth it.

    the rode sounds really good but i purchased the dji mic 2 because i dont need to use a computer to change the setting. in addition the sound quality of the mic 2 is acceptable and i am very happy with them.

    I had my doubts about these mini DJI thingies. Compared to the old school Tescam they are a treat. Thanks also for your studio insights 🙏👍 I’m a Profoto guy but I like your setup a lot 😄

      Thanks Alexander. Yep - all the mini mics benefit hugely from a bit of manual EQ/NC in post, but straight out of the gate I've been really impressed by them. Annoyed that I didn't get my hands on the DJI Mini mic ahead of making this!

    I'm wondering why the sound is better/clearer in those public settings vs. the empty room? Personally, I'm looking for the best mic to record singer-songwriter clips in my house/room. Any perspective on that? I'm wondering if it's mainly because the mics are closer to your mouth when you're outside, on your collar...

    • @ThatMarkGilroy
      @ThatMarkGilroy  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, there’s that. And also the empty room has a lot of hard surfaces in for the sound to bounce off. Difficult to isolate sound in there without using extra help from software. In that market I was surrounded by people which, whilst busy, helped isolate the sound a little more.
      Singer/songwriter wise I’d go with either of the Røde mics. They pick up little nuances that I couldn’t hear in the others.

    I wish you ended with an actual recommendation. Generally saying they are all great makes the whole thing feel disingenuous, and all around not very helpful for people trying to narrow down their choice.

      @@Myperferctplaylists I can recommend one of these to you if you tell me more about how you’ll be using it.

      @ThatMarkGilroy I need something that can double for doing solo youtube content (opposed to a larger mic because I will be moving a lot), as well as be suitable for casual 1 on 1 video interviews, all shot from smartphone.
      These all seem like they'd work, but what's best? What are their pro's and con's?

    • @ThatMarkGilroy
      @ThatMarkGilroy  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@Myperferctplaylists The big thing that I noticed (you can hear it if you listen with headphones on) is that the Røde's sound significantly better with my own EQ/noise cancelling applied. Almost no compression or loss of quality at all.
      If you just need a plug and play option for audio that's going to be recorded straight to camera and uploaded without any tweaks, the Lark and Godox options are all good...but both the Røde's sound the best to my ear.
      Given your use case of smartphone only my top recommendation would be the Røde Wireless Pros.

      @@Myperferctplaylists No worries. FYI - I edit in Final Cut Pro and just applied the flat EQ to these, and then dialed up the voice isolation to about 70-80% to get the effect you hear in the third version of each of the sound tests. Other EQs are available!
