I know but these magnificent relatives of ours are not safe in the wild. As long as zoos have appropriate habitats for all animals, then I don't think they're unhappy.
They would never survive in the wild. Most were born in captivity and they were saved from poachers. Remember Gorillas in the Midst? Jane Goodall is still alive.
A larger enclosure would be great, and some large trees for adventure, play and exercise. But gorillas are primarily ground based animals. Even in the wild they only climb trees 5-20% of the time, and the large males very rarely. I do think they need more mental stimulation in that enclosure. I hope there are larger, more natural areas they get to use at the zoo for most of their time, and they're only kept where we see them for a few hours each day.

I think the enclosure is partially isolated sound wise from the public watching them. This is being recorded through the enclosure glass I think so you can hear the crowd well, but not the gorillas.
Kintaro as a baby was so cute. At 3:57, he looks up at his father and Momotaro touches him gently. I took a screenshot of it. At the present day, Genki still cares for Kintaro as if he were little. He’s a lucky gorilla boy.

We humans are cruel with the zoos. This zoo isn't giving a very natural habitat to them here. They'd be better off in the wild. Personally, I'd much rather live in the wild than be gawked at in this tank-type environment. The people's chattering and laughing would drive me crazy.

Our friends are showing more and more of human behavior or else we are just now noticing because we watch them closer. Out in the wild they don’t have it as easy as in a zoo so. They can’t devote much time on more than eating. Now I think that the dad’s are kicking in with childcare more and it really is amazing to watch. I really give the moms credit too because they carry their babies close to them all the time while they re little. They kiss them and pat them just as we do. Before we know it they might just start talking.😊😊❤❤❤
