    Some people don't get it, but the one thing I splurge on is my hair. I buy expensive products for haircare and I go to the salon and don't mind paying. So I get why this has been such a trauma for you. But stay strong. You're doing so well!

      People don't understand that her hair is her income too. That's also a factor.
      Even if it wasn't a factor, I'd be pissed. These mistakes can cause permanent baldness if left long enough on the scalp. I've seen it

      But to sad if even this high rated salons ruin the hair. Here in Belgium they are after your money...yo sad. Not even worth the name hairdresser 😢

    I still don't understand why she told you that you're going to go bald. You don't do that even if you think that's the case. It's completely unprofessional.
    Anyway, you look good girl! I can't believe you look this good after only 6 weeks! You're gonna be back in no time.❤

      I think she panicked. That sounds like the kind of thing one thinks and doesn't say unless they've lost composure. The person who worked next to me had this happen when I was hairdresser and she freaked out and said similiar things in front of client. We had to give her a few minutes and let a couple other people finish the shampoo and start explaining to the client what had happened and what we were going to do. It's a very shocking situation to experience.

    Transition to a balayage. It’s the best thing I ever did to my hair and it will look natural, healthy, still blonde, and you only need to do it 1-2 times a year.

    • @blue---monday
      @blue---monday ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I second this!! Deciding on balayage saves me sooo much money in the long run (because it's so much less damaging as a whole) AND I still look pretty much ash blonde. I love it. The growth also looks so natural that I can give it several months before having to touch it up, a factor that also saves my hair from even more unnecessary damage

      Oh man, I wish 1-2 times a year. Love the grow-out but I get cranky when I start to see too much of my natural color. 😂 I’m never happy with my level either. 😩

    Dear Heidi, you are so eloquent and kind. I had a situation 5 years go when visiting a salon for color( I had prev gone there and was happy) where the salon owner left the bleach (which was in foils ) too long on my hair. She was just yapping on and on...not even checking and because she did a great job the first time I had wasnt questioning it the way I should have. After she took me to use the sink I noticed she couldnt get the comb through my hair so she used a pick. I saw herstealthily going back and forth to the garbage with wads of white hair. She said nothing. I asked what volume she used ( I typically require 20) and she told me 40!!!! When I got home I saw pieces broken off...like yours all over my head. A half inch where she clearly overlapped. I easily lost one third of my hair. THe remainder of my hair was a fried mess. I was so traumatized I now color my hair (a copper) myself. Its devastating.

  • @donnamedica9014
    @donnamedica9014 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Two things for your consideration.
    To help with regrowth camouflage, color wow makes a powder in a blond shade that seems to work nicely to break up dark roots so check them out if you’re interested. Another thing that came to my mind, in 6 months or a year when you are ready to do color again, whoever does it will need to completely avoid overlapping on any of the previously lightened hair !! Whatever didn’t break of is still certainly weak…

    Hi Heidi. I am so sorry that this happened to you and your gorgeous hair. I also used to colour and highlight my hair. I had the time and money to maintain the after care. In 2015, my hair broke off after getting highlights. My stylist didn't tell me and I only saw it after a few days. Luckily it wasn't on top of my head so nobody else noticed. I didn't do it again after that because I got pregnant in 2016 and with looking after a baby, it wasn't a priority. In December 2020 I had highlights again, but virgin hair. My hair Is naturally dark. It looked good etc. But I won't do it again because I don't have the time and money this time around to keep up with the maintenance. You mentioned that you don't know if you want to go brunette, I think you should. It will definitely suit you and will hide the hair that is growing. Please keep up with the hair care videos. I learned alot since watching your channel.❤ love from Cape Town South Africa.

    I can so relate to this. Where I live in Michigan, you have to pay for the service even if it ruined your hair.They offer to fix it, but typically only with the same stylist, which for me is frightening. I wouldn't want the same stylist who didn't know how to do it initially to attempt to repair it. You wouldn't know you have that damage there, you've managed to disguise it very well. Please keep us updated!

It's been 3 months and it's slowly growing back, lots of TLC, k18, the pureology strength cure entire line and olaplex 3 treatments, leave in Moroccan oil on mids & ends after washing and its slowly healing. So very sorry to hear you are going through this. It is psychologically very painful.I have always appreciated your generous sharing and knowledgable information with us. It is one of the most painful situations to go through. It is bad enough when we ourselves make a mistake and damage our hair. But so much more painful when someone else is responsible. I know ,I lost my waste length hair to a pixie cut when I was a teenager. I was too young to know what to do about it. And it haunts me to this day. It had to do with a bleach pack and Henna. Stay positive. If anyone can bring it back you can.

    You’re an angel and I’m so sorry this happened. This has happened to me quite a few times and I continue to bleach my hair. Only time heals. The good thing is that your hair is still growing at a normal average rate. That’s great news. I did what you did and stayed focused on healing my hair. I think it’s healthier for body and mind. My Dermatologist recommended Biotin vitamins and protein hair treatments. I also started eating more protein. I’m a pescatarian. My hair grew back out healthier than before. I used Aphogee protein treatments that absolutely helped and repaired my hair. As long as I have hair I’ll continue to bleach it. I love my long hair with highlights. This too shall pass. Really. We love your videos we can All learn from your journey because it’s real and it happens. You are teaching a valuable learning lesson that truly transfers to other unfortunate situations. Generally speaking highlift color is more gentle than bleach but the high ammonia and higher peroxide can also be risky near broken hair.
    The regrowth that you currently have could be managed with a 9.1 with 30 vol in Majirel. I would have a hairstylist apply it in the most careful way possible and apply Vaseline to your middle areas to form a barrier. You would need to get the color soon or otherwise your regrowth is out of the area that lifts easier. It will soften the regrowth and I would leave the rest as it is, just some toning mousse so it can grow further. You got this

    • @heidiguttenberg
      @heidiguttenberg  ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, I never thought about the timing. But it’s true that there’s that first few inches that lift easier. Seems like I may need to make a decision sooner than I initially thought. Thank you for bringing this up Tim. I will keep it in mind. ♥️

I commented on your last video that I went through a similar experience but I still have bald areas. I used to look after my hair with good products to keep what hair I have in the best condition which is why I watched your videos and I have always found your reviews spot on. During a difficult time I stopped looking after my hair it’s in bad condition now and it shows how thin my hair is. I just wanted to say you have inspired me to start looking after my hair again and I am literally waiting on a large delivery of my favourite Kérastase products. I'm so sad to see and hear this. We put out trust in other's to take care of our hair, and spend so much time and money to keep it healthy. 2 day's ago 1 famous hairdressers ruined my hair wich I have been treating with prp and the most precious care. He brushed it out all out ...my hair was all over the place. I could only cry and cry. Worst of all, he says it's not his fault but my hair itself and charged a big amount. I'm upset and I will NEVER trust someone again with my hair. I just keep it to myself and try to stay " happy" and hopefully my hair grows back. I wish you all the best with your hair. Six inches❓ That is a lot to cut off without permission. It has happened to all of us.
      I too had a trusted long term hairdresser. Had gone in for a trim. His phone rang and he answered it while continuing to cut my hair. Well he got distracted and CHOP. Five inches gone. I yelped loudly. He looked, hung up the phone and proceeded to say that I really needed more than a trim anyway. What the f**k?
      I was not nice. I was visibly upset and told him it was so unprofessional for him to take a call and continue to cut my hair. I hated the haircut. HATED IT. My hair has always been long. It was now dusting my shoulders. I told him that the phone call cost him his fee. It took 3 years to grow back to the original length. I know cut my own hair.

    Hairstylist here. I am 99.9% sure the reason it broke off was overlapping. So she placed bleach over your previous highlights on that section on the top that she fully bleached instead of highlighted. She MIGHT have left it on too long, but even if she had left it for the proper processing time, the hair that had the bleach applied on top of your previous highlights still would have been severely damaged. I am sure, as you said, that she learned a valuable lesson. I’m so sorry this happened to you.

I remember from a previous video of yours that you had tried Kerastase therapiste, would it help you at this stage? Whatever treatment you are currently following, I wish you the best. I am really interested in following your progress. We usually see therapeutic products used on hair that is already perfect. It makes more sense to see them when there is real need and see if they really work. Of course, I wish you hadn't gone through this. I wish you the best and I hope the tiny progress you see every day, makes you smile. It will be behind you before you know. Greetings from Greece ❤

    I've probably mentioned this before, i have alopecia and it falls out at the front and top. I use a wig when this happens. I've also got a topper that covers pretty well but im not a fan of the clips.

    I would recommend a darker toner to smudge the root down and go for a more bayalaged look. You could get lowlights pulled through the ends too to break it up and once your hair is a but healthier you can add the blonde around your face to feel blonde still. Keep in mind high lift isn't as damaging but is still quiet damaging . Toner is your best bet (going a bit darker )

    I’m a cosmetology student and unfortunately this happens if you overlap bleach! I would suggest doing low light with shade 7 and 8 using demi permanent on the root. Don’t attempt doing that yourself just search for a good hair salon near you and ask for diffused teasy lowlights. I would do that in 2-3 months from now and continue doing your k18 and lots of care in the meantime. It’s already looking better now and I can tell you’re on the right track but I wouldn’t do any bleach for at least 6 months from now. You’re so brave for putting yourself out here and telling your story hopefully this will help a lot of people who maybe dealing with this situation 💓💓

    This happened to me in my late twenties. She was doing a root touch-up on me. I lost a lot of hair all over, throughout my entire head. She overlapped the bleach. I was devastated. They didn’t charge me but they also did not compensate me either. I took the salon owner to small claims court and won. ** Just curious, what was the high-lift color that you used on the side that you showed?

    Dear Heidi, bless your good heart. You and even your hair still look beautiful. And it will only get better. You see a lack of bad intentions because that's how you are, without any wish to cause harm to anyone. And in fact, likely she had none. Berating her would only have increased the suffering when shouldn't we all want to minimize suffering and as you say support growth. But though you are such a good person, motivated to do good, you are rational!! even in such an emotional situation. It would seem your every decision was rationally made after logical analysis. You make the world a better place. In spite of what you're dealing with, you did all the right things, imo. Take care sweet girl. xo

    Heidi, you are such a kind soul. I can sense the pain you’ve been through. I really feel for you. 😔
    Your attitude about how to handle things (like anger) says a lot about you. Beautiful inside and out with a gentle heart. I do wish the salon would have provided K18 products for you for free. It would have been the right thing to do.
    I’m sure that this experience will help teach you (and all of us if you are willing to share your experiences) invaluable info about how to repair hair.
    I pray for the healing of your hair and for fast growth! But not just for your hair, but for your heart, as this has been very traumatic.
    I hate to write what I’m going to next but I feel I should just to share info since your channel here is mainly about hair care…
    If your TH-cam channel is your main way of making money you technically could have sued the salon that messed up your hair. I’m not suggesting you do this, just saying that it is an option. But I do know that we all make mistakes too… 🤷🏼‍♀️
    I also wanted to ask if there’s any skincare you recommend, as you have beautiful skin!

    Sorry this happened I know how it feels same happened to mine I have same dark natural as you bleached for years no problems at all a year ago had whiter highlights and she did a bleach bath and completely ruined my hair 😢very traumatic had breakage at root like yours but also snapped hair all way down thought was going to be bald. Got to be honest even a year later my hairs still so damaged used to break every single day no matter how much olaplex and k18 I tried and still do everything to save it 😢think need a bigger cut I’m so paranoid of my hair now hate having the hair dresser or anyone touching it I used to have thick long hair now it’s a fried mess. root breakage only just above my ears now looks terrible like you say when windy etc can’t even go darker as that would mean dying over my snapped damaged lengths 😢 stay strong keep posting your helping others - your hair looks lots better already amd at least breakage just at top not everywhere don’t think you need a dr you’ll be wasting money in desperation trust me I know wasted so much money, maybe I need a head dr now as I’m a nutcase stressing over my hair lol 😂 💜

    I had a similar thing happen. New hairdresser bleached my hair super pale and the condition was poor. So I co washed instead of shampooed for a year and used a hair gloss to tint it to a mid blonde which also blended in the roots. After a year I went to a good salon and got it colour corrected but I sometimes wonder if just going darker (I am a natural blonde with now grey roots at the crown) and using semi permanent colour myself is the way forward. DIY colour and even highlights seems to work just fine for some and you can get the result your really want.

It was so painful and my hair turned out so orange and damaged. A waste of $500 and it was so fried and such a gross colour that i immediately bought a colour mask and dyed it semi permanent back to black. It didn't show if you didn't mention it, the rest of your hair is intact, it will need some time for the breakage to regrow. Please don't retired from TH-cam and keep us updated. I recommend a keratin treatment for the rest of your hair it will help with the frizz, a toner will fix the hair color, and if you need to go blonde, you have to use a highlift dye as soon as possible, coz ur roots are still short enough so the heat of ur scalp can help with lift.❤❤❤❤.
