Magic Kingdom AGAIN! Contempo Cafe Lunch, Ohana Dinner & More

  • It's Day 8 of our Walt Disney World vacation! We went back to Magic Kingdom today with a goal of doing different things than our previous day.
    However, it started off a little rocky, both with some transportation issues and an intentional habit of falling into the same pattern we did on our first Magic Kingdom day.
    But it didn't take too long before we started enjoying some attractions we'd missed the first time around.
    Aside from that, we did try a lot more new food, including both meal locations. We ate lunch at the Contempo Cafe in the Contemporary Resort and had dinner at Ohana in the Polynesian Resort.

      They can usually work around allergies if you discuss it with them ahead of time, but that would depend on how allergic you are because I’m sure the room is absolutely filled with it, but if it’s a consumption only thing, they probably have allergy dedicated pots and pans to avoid even cooking on the same stuff.

    Whaat! I love baby corn! Seeing you board the monorail to the Polynesian reminded me one of my vlogs I looked back on recently from our honeymoon where I briefly mentioned we almost went on the wrong monorail on our way to Victoria & Albert's at the Grand Floridian! Haha!
    Btw, if you ever find it in your budget for a future special occasion, I highly recommend Victoria & Albert's as a special dinner for you & Amy! Those crabby CMs can really ruin your day. Several years ago, at Disneyland, I had a CM scream at me -- when all I did was stand in line -- about a Fast Pass for Splash Mountain-- "YOU HAVE TO HAVE A TICKET!" Then later that same day -- I had a performer (musician) on the Mark Twain who asked if anyone needed Mardi Gras beads; and I called down that I would like some beads; and since I was already wearing one strand -- he was really mean and told me that I didn't understand that I was already wearing a necklace. "Thank you for playing!" he called up in a very snarky way. I was so traumatized, I haven't been on the MT since that bad experience!

    fwiw, a lot of the Ohana menu is available at the Tambu lounge. The last time we went, we grabbed some food to go and then watched the fireworks and electrical pageant from the beach. It also has the advantage of NOT having to try to get the dinner reservation at a decent time.

      Amy here- they have almost a wetsuit layer to them, so it felt slightly different than wearing a regular sneaker, however, I didn’t have any issues with them being overly hot and the one day it downpoured on us, I was very happy to find my socks and feet completely dry while everyone else walked the rest of the afternoon around in wet socks and shoes until we went back for a break.

    Finally someone who mentions the cast members are rude. I've experienced rude cast members in Disney world so many times and I've excuses them each time but I agree that disneyland cast members are nice... yes some have had a bad day but we have experienced massive discrimination in Florida. I will say though that for discrimination problems Universal Florida is 1000% worse. Most cast workers are nice and helpful and I'm never rude in return to those who are in bad moods but I have seen a vast difference in the opposite coasts.

    • @SoCalDisneyDad
      @SoCalDisneyDad  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The one that really got me was when I went up to a counter to get a cup of water.
      I usually get seen, and someone comes over and greets me, asks what I need, I mention the water, they smile, they grab a cup and hand it to me and they wish me a good day.
      But this one particular instance I stood there for a few minutes while all cast members ignored me. When I said “excuse me” the cast member snapped “you’re in the wrong line”. I said “I just need a cup of water” to which she said “you’re in the wrong line” more forcefully. I stepped over one lane, she rolled her eyes and grudgingly got me a water. It was really rude.

      @@SoCalDisneyDad wow that's so mean and sadly something I've seen happening more and more. My sister has a wheelchair but uses it as a walker and doesn't look disabled and we have been ignored, scoffed at and actually had 2 bus drivers, for the resort, refuse to board us cause we weren't at the front of the line. Once we were but the guy standing at the front said he was first and the second time the driver just didn't want to let anyone on from the wheelchair line even though the girl in front of us and we were ahead of everyone else in line. When we see a cat member who is clearly having a off day we try and be super nice, cause I work in customer service and people can be jerks, and normally this works and puts them in a better mood but across the board I've run into more rude people who are in customer service in the east than west coast. Sorry that happened to you.

    I love your blogs. We are from Canada and I look forward to your blogs so I can get an idea of what’s going on especially since this is going to be our first time going. I have a four year old grandson. I am taking who is borderline autism? I was wondering is there any areas in the park that can give as timeouts because he can get overstimulated I didn’t see much seating around the park. What would you recommend?

    • @SoCalDisneyDad
      @SoCalDisneyDad  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Magic Kingdom is particular is hard with that. I would focus on the attractions that allow you to sit down awhile if you need a break. Like the PeopleMover or the WDW Railroad. But that might even be stimulating if what he needs is time away from everything.
      I can’t think of anywhere in the park where you can just go and sit that’s out of the way and away from crowds and noises.
      This is where taking breaks in the afternoon can be vital, but it just takes so long to get to Magic Kingdom to consider any more than one break. Unless you stay somewhere like the Contemporary which has easy access to the park and you could come and go quickly. Any of the monorail resorts are good for that, but they’re also all deluxe resorts so cost is a factor.

    Hey I love your videos and you have always helped with my vacation planning but i have a question about Disney World. Is it more about the food than the rides? I always assumed it would be more rides given the size but it seems like from your videos you end up hitting more food spots than rides. Like it feels like there are 5 rides in a day and then 6 restaurants and i was assuming it would be 12 rides and 3 eateries. Am i missing you mentioning rides that you didn't film or anything? Just asking because Disney World will be a huge expense but if its food and atmosphere heavy then i would rather prioritize other places for vacation. Also have you ever done a Disney Cruise? If not that would be amazing.

      @SoCalDisneyDad  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We did 12 rides in this video. One I did not show, but just mentioned it.
      As I replied to your last comment to this regard, we did plenty of rides on all the days. Usually 10-15 on each day with the exception of Animal Kingdom that just does not have that many rides.
      And we only ate at 4 food locations. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a snack.

    Hey, I’m planning a trip for October, One day at DCA and one day at Disneyland. Since it is close to Halloween, I am curious to know if either parks closes early (mainly for DCA oogie boogie night).. Is there a way to tell what events are going on with the selected dates I’m going? Like if the park closes early or if there is no fireworks. Thank you!

    • @SoCalDisneyDad
      @SoCalDisneyDad  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The list of dates for OBB are available here:
      disneyland.disney.go.com/events-tours/disney-california-adventure/oogie-boogie-bash-halloween-party/#drawer-card-tickets-dates
      Fireworks are only guaranteed on weekends, though the nighttime show will take place nightly, just with projections instead of fireworks on select nights. It’s hard to say what those nights will be until around 4-6 weeks out. But weekends are safer bets for fireworks (Friday through Sunday).
      DCA closes at 6 PM on OBB nights.
