The bit with Batman sitting with his elbows on the desk frustrated while bats fly around and dramatic music plays is absolutely hilarious. It's like he's just given up trying to get these bats out of his office and he's just begrudgingly accepting that they're here to stay.

It was the most entertaining of the Burton/Schumacher era films.
@@somerandolad There were a lot of scenes that still linger in my mind like the opening the nose biting scene and a lot of the dark and twisted Burtonesque stuff in it
It's one of my favorites from that era.
I like this film just as much as Batman 1989. It’s just darker and more Burton.

Something I liked that my friend coined, is he calls it the Batman Corollary: "The less suited to a Batman role an actor seems to be is inversely proportional to how well they tend to actually do in the role", and he cites Michael Keaton, Mark Hamill, Heath Ledger, Ben Affleck, Joaquin Phoenix, and Robert Pattinson as examples of it.
This review feels so pure because it’s about a super heroe pre MCU.

Live action: Jack Nicholson, with a big honorable mention to Joaquin Phoenix.
Animated: Mark Hamill... hell, he IS "The Joker"!
RIP Kevin Conroy... he IS "The Batman"!
I actually agree fully with James on his opinions. The Gotham captured in Burton's vision was what I pictured Gotham to be, and Nicholson's Joker was the clown prince of crime with a signature laugh. Even after, when I saw Jack Nicholson smile, I saw the Joker. That's not to say that the other renditions weren't great but I agree that they felt genuinely more authentic to Batman despite some obvious glaring differences.
My favorite line from Jack Nicholson was always... "WHY DIDNT SOMEBODY TELL ME HE HAD ONE OF THOSE....THINGS"......one, because of jacks line delivery....and two, because it was completely absurd that the batwing had such a device.....as if Bruce anticipated one day he would need a device for capturing giant balloons lol

I was 10. Batman Returns came out. My mom told me no. My Dad told me to listen to my mother and then took me as soon as she left the house. He liked Michelle Pfeiffer.

Batman is a very versatile character, the guy has ben through everything, silly family comedies and dark and gritty thrillers.
I think that is why he is so popular, there is a version of Batman for everyone.

Pretty spot on. But then again I think we're roughly the same age. Now that some time has passed I also think TDK is a bit overrated and the one after (Dark Knight Returns?) is definitely the worst of the 3 Nolan movies. The Batfleck had potential that was wasted just like the entire Snyderverse, which I'm just not really a fan of beyond a few things. Affleck at least looked cool in the costume and could pull off a Bruce Wayne in looks if not acting chops better than a lot of the others. The newest one was also its own thing which was different, but in kinda a good way. I'd rate it at least as high as Begins or TDK. But in the end Batman 89 is the overall winner for me.
The good old days of talented and funny James with a series of honest and well written reviews...

I remember watching this video when it was new Classic James is the best james.
The 60's Batman Movie was one of the only VHS tapes I had growing up in the 80's. Adam West is still my fav.
Fortunately, it appears that since this was recorded that the '60s TV show is now available on both DVD and Bluray. Definitely worth it for those that can appreciate the humor of it all.

I really think Drew Carey was one of the best Riddler's Danny DeVito was one of the best penguins and Adam West's was the best Batman and Arnold Schwarzenegger as mr. Well Damn… this video is exactly how I feel about every Batman adaptation. It even shares my opinion about the Joker.
Batman forever's villains were bad because they did less charismatic versions of the joker. They didn't act like their respective characters.

Hot take Jim Carey as riddler is actually kinda creepy but is overlooked because ledger Nicholson and phoenix gave less subtlety creepy performances see I feel Carey is creepy because he’s a goofball who’s one bad day away from shooting up a school or a violent attack on a boss

James was really based and ahead of his time with his review of Batman Begins, the Dark Knight trilogy is very overrated (except for The Dark Knight itself which is brilliant) and Begins has a lot of faults that people overlook like the action scenes or it's mishandling of both it's villains, though some of what James says is definitely biased, I don't get not wanting to see Bruce's backstory when it's actually the best part of the movie and Alfred being on board with whatever Bruce wants is a testament of their relationship and the trust Alfred has on him, it's not something that needs a clear explanation.

How James rants about Batman Begins being overrated is the same way I rant about the Avengers 2012. I think the Avengers 2012 is good, just not as good as everyone claims it to be.
Unpopular opinion, I liked Batman Begins better than the Dark Knight, blasphemy I know.
You completely misunderstood the scene where Batman is flying at the joker with his targets locked. "The joker wanted Batman to prove he would kill him cuz he knew he wouldn't. Then when Batman locked on he couldn't bring himself to actually shoot the joker so he missed on purpose but tried to do it in a way to make the joker think he actually would kill him but the joker knew he was faking and pulled his gun out and shot his plane. Basically the joker knew it would all play out like and Batman let it play out like that thinking he can pull the joker into thinking he was a killer." You were confused by it but it's actually one of the smartest parts of the movie 😭
