Played this in the early 80s with a really good HS all-star band in Central Ohio which was probably about as good as a GOOD college big band. After studying orchestral music the past 35+ years and coming back to this...Oh my! That repeated middle section, going to the double dotted rhythms in the 4th repeat....absolute, shrieking genius! It's like a RUSH tune for big band!
Dude I am 100% sure that we played the same key and the only different arrangement was what instruments we had solo - this was an all county band, so they accepted about 15 out of 300 that tried out Brian Gonzalez
This tune sounds like crap on the ios app, only one channel of the stereo mix but fed into both sides. Very little brass heard. But on the web, sounds normal. WTF?

Those brass soli sections are so tight! Rhythm section? Hah! Who needs 'em?
That is most likely done with Thad Jones as conductor.
People that play them because people don’t make tuba parts for jazz

in my band the guitar solo is a Bari sax solo and it's awesome
In my band it's a soprano sax 😂
Because of this chart, I learned you could have a flat 9 AND a sharp 9 in the same chord. Go figure! Thanks, Thad.
Damn I still remember that third trombone part. Weird af
I'm playing this on bass in my school's Stage Band. Bruh moment.
Who arranged it would be good in the description?
