Yesssss I don’t know what it is about spending a whole day reading a book you enjoy and then going back to gaming but it’s so great. It’s like a palate cleanser or something 😅

Slumps are really the worst. I get them for all my hobbies from time to time. But definitely cycling between interests & introducing variety as much as possible can really help! Same goes with content creation :)
Hope you find the backlog randomizer helpful this year 🥰

I really appreciate your video. I've been gaming for over 40 years. I will be turning 59 this year. I have 5 children who are all adults now. Your biggest thing that I saw you share about was how important it is to give time to multiple passions and variety in life as well as gaming. I too love JRPGs. I just finished Trails to Zero and Azure. That was 2 80+ hour games. I loved them but I was struggling towards the end. Lots of hours. The story was so good and trust me the last 20 hours was the best part.
I have had many slumps as you call them. I find that when they happen that it's a sign to put time elsewhere like reading or nature. And letting myself try an indie game that's way shorter. A suggestion is like To the Moon or Coffee Talk. Then after that I might try a platformer ot D&D with family.
I want to say that I know as a content creator, it must add stress to you. My daughter in law is a Twitch streamer and near your age. She varies her types of games long, short, medium to help with that. Please know that we want you to do we whatever you need to do for you. Glad you took this break.

I definitely see where you're coming from. JRPGs are my favorite genre but they're long and exhausting! Sometimes I crave a small 10-20 hour game instead of a massive 60+ hour game, or even just another way to spend my time. With gaming in general I usually only have time to play only in the evenings. But sometimes I don't even feel like playing games, so in the evenings sometimes I either just watch TH-cam or play guitar instead which still gives me a nice feeling instead of grinding in a game. Hope your break was fulfilling and I'm excited for me content from you!

Thanks Nishquik! I love JRPGS but they can be a HUGE time sync and right now I need a change for sure!

I think we can all relate to this. Gaming may be my favorite hobby and JRPGs favorite genre, but you can feel a burnout for sure. Always good to do other interests and hobbies to help. For me, it's usually taking a walk as I live right near a river so that's always a great walk to clear my mind or when it's not a great day out for that, it's usually watching anime, quick workout at home, or recording a video here as being in front of a camera talking about games helps my slump lol

Gaming slumps can feel like the worst thing ever but at the end of the day they are much needed. That reset is the best. I went through a slump a couple of years ago. Only thing that could catch my attention was Tetris 99 and Picross. Continue to spend time with friends/family and your other hobbies.
I’ve been reading a lot more lately and it’s the best thing ever. Feels good to get back to one of my favorite hobbies from when I was younger.
I didn’t know you knit. I told myself this is going to be the year that I learn. Seems like such a cool hobby!

What a coincidence! I am feeling the same as you. I am burnt out on back to back rpgs. I said I am going to take a break and just switch genres for awhile. I think I will play some pc point and click or some light adventure games. I have been playing three rpgs at a time for a while now. That will burn you out. I love them too. But I need a break, also. Good luck and keep playing games. Thank you for a great video! I needed that!😊

I always feel like I'm in a constant gaming slump. I wanna play my games, but most of the time I'm busy with work and life obligations. And whenever I get time for games, I'm either super tired or lose motivation to play anything, it really sucks. Hoping I can take your advice from this video and get back into gaming again soon 🤞

Thank you, so very much, for releasing this video! This was a GREAT personal view of your gaming journey and how you are currently navigating your gaming slump. This was also a great analytical view as to why these slumps occur, too. Of course, YMMV, depending on an individual person's focus and mental facilities, but I feel like you hit the nail on the head here. I, too, have learned to never force myself to doing something I don't enjoy or that doesn't evoke joy within me. And video games are meant to be exactly that!

I have pretty severe ADHD so sometimes I hyperfixate on certain video games and play them to death. When the hyperfixation ends, I feel burnout from video games and it makes me pretty sad. Thanks for this video, I'll definitely come back to it when I hyperfixate and burn out again!

I appreciate this video and your honesty because this is something a lot of gamers can relate to. I can especially relate as someone who almost exclusively plays jrpgs... LOVE them, but they are long as hell and sometimes I'm just not in the mood lol. And I can't imagine the added pressure of creating content to go along with it! Whenever I get in a slump, I tend to switch over to my other favorite hobby of watching anime. I know it always comes back eventually, and I'll get that itch to level up, explore a new world and meet incredible characters.

One thing I’ve realized in my years of gaming…it’s that when you love it the most that you can be hurt by it the most. I hit gaming slumps every once in awhile, so I get it. The best thing to do…is to not play video games for awhile. Back in December, I hit a slump. For the month of January, I built Legos and read books. It was an absolute blast. So the thing about it is…the more that games become formulaic, the more you need diversity. So the best thing you can do is a slump…is to walk away and come back with fresh eyes

Great video once again. For me, it took a while to learn but whenever i finish a longer game that is when i slip into a gaming slump. By now its a pattern, first day i am just watching TH-cam thinking of the game i finished, 2nd and 3rd i get back into building and painting my extensive backlog of 40k miniatures and by 4th day i start thinking of watching Anime again. Usually i become obsessed with a new game before i can act on that thought.

I am also currently not in the mood to game, to tired. So I put my energy in other hobbies. And I was also pushing myself with a list I want to complete, because i didn’t game a lot back in the day… so I wanted to make up for it by gaming too much. But I will try to enjoy gaming again and not push myself again to finish as many games.

I'll admit I don't get gaming slumps anymore but that may be just because I'm at a time in my life when I don't have a lot of free time as a parent. I used to get them in my 20s but never anymore! Having said that, I do try and diversify because back to back JRPGs can get exhausting!

I know I already commented…but I can’t believe that TH-cam waited this long to recommend you to me. I feel like we’re on exactly the same wavelength and I’m thankful to know that someone else feels that same way. It’s so common that I see people praising video games…and then I play them, and I feel different. I feel like a pariah sometimes, because I take what I experience in novels and expect it from video games. In my honest opinion, games get a pass for bad writing because they’re inherently more immersive for the fact that you control the character…but I want the best narrative possible. I want more games like The Last Of Us that end in a way we’d never expect because the game has something to say and it wants us to take the effort to understand it, rather than it has something to say, but it messes around for 60 hours and says what it wants to say in a 3 hour cutscene. Even though I love games, I think they would be so much better if they would layer the reveals throughout the game rather than waiting for the final act to info dump on you. I think books are an inherently better medium at the moment simply because they have had thousands of years to develop their pacing, whereas video games have only had since Mario released on the NES

It might not be your bag but- Outer Wilds. I'm not even sure how to describe whose bag it is, I tried it specifically because it wasn't like any other thing and felt almost spitefully good about what a waste of time it seemed to be... then it got good.

      @jessjohnson998 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

And it has absolutely nothing to do with other content I've seen from you lol so like I recommend it to screw around with no camera. It's almost a SIN to spoil it or show others how to win and deprive them of the journey.
Note: if you need to just not touch games fair this rec comes from me being burnt out on comp games and forgetting why I even liked them- touch grass first if the grsss isn't available check this or some other personal indie thing out and remember the discovery that made you love games. You said slump was over but like. Idk when I was willing to play games I had to do Not League, CSGO and Overwatch for a while real bad and trying random stuff really put me back in the place that made me a gamer.
