Excellent insights! I have always loved that Wingspan makes the effects of the cards reflect the birds themselves. When I play I always read the text and sometimes I even pull out an app I have that will play the bird calls as well.
This is such a great review! I haven’t played Finspan yet, but I watched the playthrough, and I think your critique of the theme is spot on. It actually made me reflect deeply on game themes in general. In hindsight this is embarrassingly basic, but until now, when I thought about how thematic a game is, I focused much more on visual design and paid less attention to mechanical and gameplay theme integration. This review completely changed the way I think about board game theme and the possibilities there.
I thought the rule was that if you activate a symbol to retrieve a card from your discard pile, but you have no cards in your discard pile, you draw a card from the deck instead.
I have wingspan and played wyrmspan. One of the things i dont like about wingspan is you lose your actions each round (minor dislike) but really didnt like how wyrmspan the turns got so much more complicated. I am kinda excited in finspan you get the same amount of turns each round. If i like finspan it will join wingspan in my collection but most likely wont replace it.
Have been waffling on whether I should get this. As always, I find your gameplay footage and final thoughts to be the most clarifying media coverage on games. You simultaneously save me so much money and also prompt me to spend money lol. Have loved your channel for as long as I've been in the hobby, for me, the two are inseparable.

Two derivatives of the same game. I am not interested in playing this title. To each their own. Wingspan is ok.. Not bad or great. Never feel bad about winning or losing, it just occupies about 90 minutes. Whatever cards come up come up. Not like Race for the Galaxy where I know the cards in the deck I am looking for in the deck.

i agree the only mistep in wingspan was the nectar (not pollen). Dragons didn't speak to me, still on the fence for finspan.
