TRUE FINE MAMA (LIVE) - LITTLE RICHARD

And now a little interlude - this may not necessarily be the very finest hour by 'Little Richard', but it's one that has stayed with me ever since I've first heard it. And it's because this performance from December 1965 at the 'Domino Club' in Atlanta, GA demonstrates exactly what Nik Cohn had to say about Richard Penniman in his great book "Pop From The Beginning" (an essential read for any serious rock and pop music fan, btw):
"James Brown has speed, Johnnie Ray has pain, Elvis has sex. Little Richard had none of that. All he had was energy. (. . .) It was all gospel - 'that healing music, makes the blind to see, the lame to walk, the dead rise up.'"
