    This is another episode of Re-search Life interview series, where Ph.D. fellows and students are invited to discuss their experiences and achievements of their PhD journeys. Today we have Dr. Ruchini Jayasinghe and Dr. Kaushalya Weththasinghe with us. These two young doctors started their journey in academia by completing the first degree, B.Sc. (honours) in Quantity Surveying at University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka with a first-class. Both of them worked as temporary lecturers at the Department of Building Economics, University of Moratuwa. In 2016, they were awarded full Ph.D. scholarships by two reputable universities in Australia.
    Dr. Ruchini Jayasinghe completed her Ph.D. in Construction Management at University of South Australia. She is currently working as a teaching academic at the same university.
    Dr. Kaushalya Weththasinghe completed her Ph.D. in Architecture, Building and Planning at University of Melbourne. She is currently working as a casual researcher at Deakin University.

      I have no knowledge of this. Better to ask from the university(ies) that you like to start your degree or google search (it always helps). Good luck! 😊

    Hi can u tell me how many hours can a phd student work? Normally they get an unlimited work hour visa right unlike normal students.
    I got an offer for a professional doctorate program, so i wanna know how i can continue to work while doing the studies. Pleas help

      Hello. Thanks for the question. In HK, you can’t work unless you get a specail permission from the Immigration Director. In Australia, you can. Better to ask from your university or school. Usually they mention the conditions in the offer letter.

    Is it necessary to have publications to get selected? Without those do we have a chance?

    • @re-searchlife9292
      @re-searchlife9292  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends! But yes, having publications is an advantage most of the time.

    Hi. My daughter is doing pg in construction mgmnt in India frm IIT Madras. She desires a lot to pursue phd abroad.. Is it affordable for a middle class family lik ours to do it in Australia and whether she will get scholarship..

      If she wins a full scholarship, yes it's affordable to live in Australia. You can check the eligibility criteria published in the official websites of universities. I think she can!

    Daily how many hours on an average you work as a PhD student?

    • @re-searchlife9292
      @re-searchlife9292  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends on the supervisor, work load and personal preferance. Most I have seen is 9-6. That also changes when you have a deadline.

      Many universities have funding schemes and award scholarships for international students. You can check official websites of universities you like to join. In addition, government scholarships like HK fellowship schemes are there too.

    Hi. I have done Masters in Clinical psychology from India with 73% marks. But I don't have any research paper published or any research done. I really want to enrol in PhD from Australia but afraid enough for the process of getting admission there in PhD. Is it really necessary to have research papers done for applying there?

    • @re-searchlife9292
      @re-searchlife9292  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, most of the time, yes. Having prior research experience would be an advantage in the selection process. But, you may have a chance based on your other qualifications. Each case would be different, so giving a generic idea would not be reasonable. If I were you, I’d contact a potential supervisor first and ask whether he/she would like to add me to his/her research team. Most of the time, supervisors know the selection criteria and they can really tell whether you have a chance or not. Good luck!
      P.S. You may need to check whether the Australian universities accept international students these days due to the pandemic situation.

    • @re-searchlife9292
      @re-searchlife9292  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did my PhD in Hong Kong and I am more farmiliar with the application process in HK. Yet, there are several similarities when the process is concerned. First thing would be finding a supervisor, develop a proposal (if necessary with him or by yourself-that too vary) and then, filling in the online application (most of the time). If you’re short-listed then you have to face an interview. Finally, the university let you know whether you’re selected or not.
