    I bought tools from a herbrand tool truck in the 80's in Calgary Canada. Most tools were similar quality to Snap On. Still have them all and they are good as new.

      Very cool. That means the Canadian operation was still alive in Canada through the '80's.

    Well done. I found some Herbrand sockets in a tool free pile while walking in my neighborhood. I had to get my truck to haul them all away.

    I have a 21 piece Herbrand SAE ratchet set with spinner handle. Bought from JM Fields store back in early '70s. Think I paid $12.95 for it. Have used it many times and still in mint condition. We Americans made good stuff back in the day. Outsourcing by greedy CEOs killed our manufacturing.

    Yep. I'm still using my Herbrand tools that I have . They do what they were designed for . Quality made in the 🇺🇸👍🏻USA , long ago .

    My grandfather, Peter Antoni (sounds Italian, but he was German) worked for Herbrand in Freemont in the 1920's, before later working for Ford on the Model T lines. The one Herbrand story I remember was one he was proud of: He was asked by the executives to specially polish and prepare a special set of tools as a retirement present for another executive... or a president of the company? Not sure. But he described taking a long time to finish this set to a very high polish, and how a special lined presentation box was made for it.
    I have wondered if this set still exists, and have looked around the internet for one that fits the description- to no avail. But I did by several 20's era wrenches, knowing there is some chance, however small, that my "Papa Peter" may have worked on them.

      Very cool story! Hopefully that presentation set is still out there somewhere.

      Cooper had them all over a barrel.

    • @ballinator
      @ballinator  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Cooper had scooped up a ton of brands, that used to be competitors. With them all operating under the same umbrella, I don't think they wanted them competing with each other for market share.

    These are hilarious. Well, save for the part about US mfg. getting killed in every film.

    In 1961 Proto Tools took over the Indy 500 sponsorship and even had a fully stocked store at the speedway I have been told where race teams got tools free of charge for running the stickers on cars. I have only seen one photo of the store at the speedway maybe you can find one ??. Wasn't the Utica Herbrand also Bonney Tools in Orangeburg SC. as that was where they made them and I have seen a video showing where that factory was as it has been torn down awhile ago. Never forget Bonney Tools invented Loc-Rite 12 point tools and Snap-On stole the design and called it flank drive and lost a court case when Bonney took them to court and had to pay big money which is the right finding by the court. Out of all the tool companies that have fallen Bonney had the best finish and the tool line by far.

    • @ballinator

    Off subject question, If you look at "DURATECH L-Type Pipe Perforation Elbow Wrench Set, L Shaped Hex Socket Wrench Set, Metric, 9-Piece, 8-19mm, Chrome Alloy Steel, 6 Point, with Rolling Pouch". What is history of this style of wrench. They seem more popular in Europe. I assume this tool is like the poor mans socket and wrench set ?

    • @ballinator
      @ballinator  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @EdAtoZ I've always just called those "socket wrenches" they were popular before ratchets and interchangeable sockets came along. They would have had a lower profile (height) than a standard ratchet & socket, but with modern low-profile ratchets, not so much anymore. They might have had a strength benefit too, before modern alloy steels came along.
