I’ve been looking at doing these recently and what I think I’m going to do is set the post inside the barrel then have someone pour the sakerete around the post while I hold it level then use the handle of a shovel to pack around it. It’s how I set fence post and it works great no cement mixing involved
Depending on space between the posts, there can be lots of tension on them. If I were doing it again, I'd bolt the post to the bottom and use cement slabs to fill in, if I wanted them to be portable again. Using quick-krete to fill the whole Barrell is doable, but will take 5x as much cement. For me, I wanted to keep the barrels when we move, which would not possible if they were full of cement. Slabs is best of both worlds.
