  • Allowing my peach throat monitor lizards - varanus jobiensis - to roam my lounge and hallway. The idea being that the male and female will encounter each other whilst walking outside of the vivarium and will be able to get used to each other on neutral territory. This video is of the male.

    That "Dont get under the Terrarium setup"

      That's why the measuring sticks and other objects are positioned in front of the stand the vivarium is on! Back when I was recording the videos of him roaming around, I'd put a lot of barriers round the sides of the vivarium too, as getting him out from the narrow space behind is a pain!!

    Tell him to earn his keep and clean up as he seems to like roaming. Lovely lizard

      Thanks. I'm not sure I understand correctly.... Do you live in Florida, or somewhere else that can't have them because of Florida's issues with iguanas?

      @@michaelfaussett6508 I know of loads of monitor keepers in Florida... Shouldn't be much you can't keep.

    What do you feed your jobiensis? It’s in amazing shape. I love seeing lean, healthy monitors.

      Thanks, I don't actually have my jobiensis anymore, but they were fed with a lot of bugs; dubia and hissers mostly, but sometimes discoids and a couple of related species, as well as Halloween hissers; occasionally crickets and morios too. They would also get hen and quail chicks/eggs, mice, prawns, and sprats, too.

    How old and how close to full grown would you say he is?

    • @MostlyMonitorMad
      @MostlyMonitorMad  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hard to say as he was already between 2-2.5 foot when I got him. I would guess he would have been between 2 and 3 years old in this video. He's not got a whole lot longer, but he's bulkier whilst still lean. They are capable of hitting about 50% longer than he is in this video, although that's rare for them to get quite so big.

    Are the tails naturally blue like that?

      @MostlyMonitorMad  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes. V. Jobiensis are very closely related to v. Doreanus aka blue tail monitors.
