      Maybe in the future I can do that. I've got to finish this series before getting too side tracked though ;)

      @@NetworkDirection this video is amazing 🎩
      Last week i had an exam on network sevices and since the documentation that was provided by our teacher is poorly made I had to do my own research on DHCP, DNS, NIS, NFS, AD, SMTP/POP/IMAP & SNMP.
      And u just resumed my hours of research in 13 minute, u covered all wat I learned and more.
      I hope that ur channel reaches more people in the near future.
      Many thanks for ur efforts 😊.

      Thanks Mohamed, really good to hear that you're getting some value from this.
      I hope you do well on your exam!

    Why don,t you allow community contributions to subtitle it? These videos are amazing, but not everybody understands English, and I could help to translate them into Spanish.

    • @NetworkDirection
      @NetworkDirection  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's a great idea. I hadn't really thought about it before.
      I've enabled community contributions on this video. I'll look at enabling it on more in future.
      Thanks for this!

    @Network Direction Using root hints and find the IP address is an iterative query per video? But video description/summary says recursive? Or Am I missing something?
    The alternative is to use root hints, where the server asks other servers for hints about where the authoritative DNS server is located. It does this using recursive queries

    • @NetworkDirection
      @NetworkDirection  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rather than trying to explain it, I would like to suggest this blog article from the ancient times (2009):
      blogs.msmvps.com/acefekay/2009/11/12/dns-recursive-queries-vs-iterative-queries/
      That might help explain it differently

    • @MsPgouru
      @MsPgouru 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@NetworkDirection Thanks for the blog link. So it is relative to what client of a DNS server is asking for. Doesn't matter if DNS server is using root hints to find resolved IP Address or it is taking another DNS server's help.

    • @NetworkDirection
      @NetworkDirection  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MsPgouru Sounds like you'll be a DNS expert before you know it!
      Another thing you could try is setting up a lab DNS server, and looking at the queries in wireshark

    Hi, great tutorials!
    I have a question: at 12:33, why is it looking for the answer in a ".COM" DNS server if the domain it's ultimately looking for is a ".NET" domain ?

    • @NetworkDirection
      @NetworkDirection  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      it's looking for blog.cloudflare.com, with is a .com space

    • @pisco4004

      @@NetworkDirection Ah, I see, I mistook the server name at the top left to the url you're searching. Thank you for the quick reply!

    Do we have link for dns configuration in linux .. ?

    • @NetworkDirection
      @NetworkDirection  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I haven't created a link for this myself, but you could try this one out: linuxconfig.org/linux-dns-server-bind-configuration
