I'm not nearly as old as you all are, born in 84'. But pretty close. Oddly enough I didnt get into reading comics, until the Jim Lee multi cover X-men #1 91' issue. So I missed most of Claremonts run, until much later. It wasn't until I followed your channel, in 2018 & was able to purchase the omnibi. In release order. So I'm just now reading, the Clermont era! Lol "Age of Apocalypse" was my first real extended run of substance, as then I was in 6th, 7th grade & finally had money to spend on concurrent issues & follow an extensive run. Because i finally had a job...lol Paper rout & lawn mowing hustle lol But my love for Xmen has only grown as the years have gone on! Great video you two!
I've missed the live. Rewatching it now. Too bad that I rarely have read single issues. But you guys covered a lot of what I would pick. I started reading X-Men in the late zero's. First with translations of the Bizarre Love Triangle storyline and the beginning of Astonishing X-Men. I loved the issues of Claremont's End of Grays and Carey's Five Miles South of the Universe. Gillen's Mr. Sinister was amazing too. So many good issues to pick. I really can't choose. And let's root for The Austen Omnibus!
I read Wolverine #34 last week from the epic collection. I hadn’t really read any Larry Hama Wolverine up to this point and I was really blown away by how good this single issue was. Great pick.
Too hard, but issues i fondly remember: Uncanny X-men #205 (BSW) Longshot #1 Spiderman vs Wolverine Excalibur Special New Mutants Special X-men and Alpha Flight #1&2 X-men vs Avengers #1
I'm pretty new to X-Men, mostly reading in trades, so I have trouble trying to pinpoint any single issues that might have stood put except for X-Men (2020) #7, the Hickman era. This one issues encapsulated all of what the Krakoa Era was to me and I still just love it.
X-Men 70 (Kelly/ Pacheco) doesn’t get the love it deserves. The gut punch when Iceman opens the mansion doors and it’s stripped bare. It’s almost worse than the whole place just blowing up. Scott’s got a bomb in his stomach. The teams are reunited. The conflict between Marrow & Storm. Juggernaut crashing in. Pacheco’s pencils. It’s just a wild, fun issue that hits a lot of beats really well.
That Seagle/Kelly era is under-appreciated. For a while there was a lot of noise about an omnibus, but when they finally collected it in trade the volume died down.
I'm so happy you commented this. I feel the same way! Probably my favorite issue of X-men. I love Kelly's writing and Pacheco's art. I love how the team had to work together. Everyone got to be useful in saving Scott. The shock of the missing technology, back to basics, having to use something like an old leaking bucket instead of Shi'ar tech, the Juggernaut not there to fight, but coming to sue the X-men and ending up laughing at their misery. This issue really set the mood for what could have been a great run, if editorial would have let Kelly run with these problems and plot points and the tension.
I think Rogue joining was the perfect follow-up to GLMK, and if I was basing this less on my heart and more on reading experience I would've fought more to keep it in.
I was not aware that Krisis was a fan of Gambit awesome the guy was a underrated character especially when you consider how powerful he can be given that he fought a version of himself named New Sun
will the FALL OF HOUSE OF X OMNIBUS be superseded by a future krakoa omnibus 11/12 or do you think it would line up as DEATH OF SPIDER-MAN does? it's up for preorder and I have 30 days to decide.
Before watching I hope to see Necrosha and x-men legacy the rogue led team era. I misunderstood the thumbnail. I thought this was a top notch stories not in omnibus yet laugh out loud😃
