You should collect good bits of junk timber from previous projects and then once you've got a lot of it see if you can recycle it by building a piece of furniture out of it, I'm doing something similar for woodwork at school, I know of a business in my small city here in New Zealand, they build and sell good fireplaces and they put all the scrap timber they don't want into a rack on the street outside the business, if there happens to some timber in that rack it's all free, anyone can take it if they want or need it, I've been collecting timber from that rack for a bit now and I have quite a bit of timber stored away, I'm going to see if I can recycle it by building an upcoming project at school with this timber I have been collecting
