The particular individuals were jailed and that bank was nationalised but the Gov't decided that we the taxpayer would shoulder the financial costs. Not a popular move and a lot of people lost a lot of money at the time. I was called for jury duty and they couldn't find anyone for the jury for the financiers because they were universally hated and no one had a neutral stance on the subject.
