This gives off the vibe Josh described in interviews during the Pure Comedy press junket about a grandiose stage production with dancers and an orchestra. Who knows if any of it was true, but I bet this will be something of a boiled down version of his vision from that time period. Can’t wait!

So I received some plastic vinyl in the mail the other day, didn't know who the sender was or what to expect. Turned out to be the album promo of the Father. So stoked to hear new work from Josh.
Interesting change of direction for Josh. On the surface, it's a nostalgic turn, imitating those lush orchestrations and vocals from the 40s and 50s. Even the album title is nostalgic, referring to the "next" 20th Century - as if it were even possible to return to the past or to imitate a bygone era in the present, which it isn't. Josh is continuing his usual video habit of not matching the content of the song to the visual imagery. The song refers to a guy crushing on a charming, witty girl in show business, but the visuals are a dark, surreal journey of a jelly fish like creature, floating around a post apocalyptic Wizard of Oz set. It's an unsettling juxtaposition of the luscious soundscape, Josh's beautiful voice, and a wistful love song, contrasted by visuals of a tentacled alien being floating through a dead world. Very dark gallows humor - very Josh Tillman. Josh is following in the footsteps of other singer/songwriters who have previously explored the big band styles of the past, such as Harry Nilsson, Linda Ronstandt, Rod Steward and Brian Ferry, to name a few. Of course, Josh has put his own personalized spin on it with his usual caustic wit and humor: "Doing interviews for the new live action Cathy." There was nothing less cool in the world of cartoon strips than "Cathy." Ack!

Damn everything is so warm and crispy yet has a chasm of depth on this recording. Whoever produced this is some kind of master, cause it’s instantly noticeable that most music now a days doesn’t have that much space within the sound.
I recommend his friend who will also appear on the album Lana del rey! I love father John misty and her so much. They are a perfect duo of quality timeless music in an era full of hyperpop garbage
