I like the Wild Magus' aesthetic. It's basically some super ancient mage or sorcerer who is so juiced up in wild magic she throws fireballs rapidly. The broken floating rock islands and I guess her clothing also invoke some sort of "wild, unstable magic", which is a contrast to the other mage towers in previous games, and the High Elven Mage, as they appear more scholarly, learned old masters of magic. Even Necromancer feels like he harnessed his power from studying the dark arts. Also the Forest Keepers are definitely centaur like, and there's actually a word for deer-centaur: Cervitaurs.
- For Witches, poison is true damage but cannot stack, stun is magic damage but is single hit so multiple witches hitting the same target actually does something. - The Sandworm is kind of like an elder sandworm that summons a younger one, which hides underneath the path and whose mouth enemies walk over.
@@thee_holland i was playing WoW when i saw the video, by chance I was in Silvermoon when you got the Blade Singers. So I took my phone opened a picture of the tower and held it next to my monitor while comparing it to Silvermoon. It looks like one of the smaller buildings out side the city in the Blood Elf starting zone.
Really liked the idea, great video! Personally, I would put Templars in D tier, because they're more boring than Paladins and their gimmick of ressurecting is boring and doesn't make sense in the design. I'll also put Wild Magus higher. They're supposed to be Elven sprcerers that channel wild, uncontrollable magic, and their design conveys that really well on top of being very cool to begin with: Their fast attack rate feels like wild, raw magic compared to the slow, controlled attacks of basic mage tower; Their insta-kill overflows an enemy and causes them to combust, unlike the controlled single target death rays of Blazing Gem and Arcane Wizard, and also the animation for the ability is absolutely stunning; And just the bits of rocks floating around the tower - including the tower itself, which is a floating rock - manage to nail the wild magic aesthetic. Great video!
I do see the argument for putting Templars in D. I think I might've put them a bit too high... You make a very good case for the Wild Magus! I will say, I still really dislike the fact that can't visually tell when her attack starts to deal more damage pr. fireball. Maybe if she started attacking more quickly, or the fireballs changed colour like the Blazing Gem once they began to deal more damage, I would've put her in A or S! But anyway, thanks a lot for the comment!
@@thee_holland Just want to clarify, I was not arguing you should change your list. Tower design is completely subjective, so your list should reflect your own opinion and feelings about the towers at the time of its making, regardless of the opinions of other people.
My favorite towers are the deep devils reef, weirdwood, and arborean emissary. I’m always a sucker for water themes so deep devils reef is always my go to tower in vengeance simply for it’s esthetic and theme, I hope we can get more water themed towers in future kingdom rush installments and alliance updates. Weirdwood and arborean emissary are unique because they’re sentient towers. Towers in kingdom rush are all buildings for units to stand on or requiring units to operate its attacks,so seeing a sentient tower that could operate itself is really cool in my book. Also an extra note; Arch-Druid henge and ignis altar are great in designing placements for the units, most of the time units just Stand on top of the tower which is really boring to look at , so seeing the units sitting/standing in different heights makes it more cool to look.
Love those insights, Rafael! Definitely a good point that Weirdwood and Emissary are sentient, and I hadn't even considered the placement of the units on top of the towers (although I guess the Bombard always did this, but still something to consider!) Thanks for the comment!
Here's an idea! That i actually haven't seen people done before yet. Rank heroes/towers based on how good their voicelines are, to how much you want their larynx to be cut off, voicelines have always had appeal in kingdom rush games undeniably.
Oh my God Thunder, you've read my mind - I was actually thinking about doing that exact thing! I really am considering it, especially because the voice lines range from AMAZING to QUITE TERRIBLE, and I would love an excuse to talk about them in a video. I really do consider it! Thanks a lot for the comment
I would like to say that for a good amount of the designs in KR 1-3, the design philosophy for the towers was to have the upgrade paths being an even better version of the tower, or an alteration of what the tower does.
That may be true, but sometimes they go for more or less interesting designs still! I was speaking more in terms of visuals. Thanks for the comment, though!
As a fellow die hard KR nerd I have to point out that you forgot the Catapult tower from Frontiers...🤔 Btw the Assassin tower is inspired by Assassins Creed, you can actually hear the voice line "Requiescat in pace" when you build it. Anyways, great video looking forward to the next one!
When i first played i loved to just spam the soldiers houses and spam (later premium 3 star wars skinned) reinforcements and let them poke each other. This is not very efffective and super slow, but i just loved that anyway. But at some point the enemies are just too strong or too many and then this will not work at all. But a decent amount of maps could be cleared this way, it was slow and the score was horrible, but still
I mean I don’t think I have much to add so I’ll just say this with the few things I disagree with. I prefer the new paladins over the old since the older paladins look much more like “kids first knight” if we are going by pure design and lead by example paladin is just cool looking. Arcane wizard never looked evil or anything, he looked goofy at worst (goofy in a good way) the alliance design is a fine evolution it’s not too drastic of a change and none of the changes really fundamentally change the aspect of the original in a negative way. And that’s kinda it. Fish only run when? #FishdomRush
Thanks for the comment, Plagued! Always love to hear your take on my takes (hah). I actually agree with you about the knights looking like "kids first knights", so in that sense, the newer version is better. Fish Run ;D
Ok so almost all of his wizard towers wer unvalid based on abilities, a high powered wizard could easily summon a tornado, and a sorcerer could also quite easily create a golem or polymorph a creature as well as the design is beautiful as just as the wizard towers all have crystals and sorcerers live in the mountains they would have a more rocky tower
Hey, what did I miss?! College has kept me busy. After watching the video I found that to me I have had the most conflicting opinions on this video. This completely harmless and subject video has got me feeling like that one Shaq time out meme. You’d think the pirate kings and alliance review (which are great videos by the way 😊👍) would be more controversial to me, but I have suprisingly A LOT to say here- even if everything is purely subjective and doesn’t hold as much weight as gameplay and level design. I really like how you brought up abilities in your reviews. A good ability can add a lot to a towers design. What I wish you talked about more are the voiclines. They are one of, if not just as important as the design themselves because of the personality that makes every iron hide game special. The templars have a pleasing tower. Simple, but looks like a medieval fortress. While they are a low tier tower, the design of the units and their voiclines are superb. That “A sword day, a red day” and “rise a knight” and “HOO AH“ Are just so amazing and sexy. And that’s just one example. Every single tower has at least ONE memorable voicline that really adds to the feel of the tower. Anyways, let’s get into the nitty gritty of what I like and dislike. Arcane wizard: ok, you know that Shaq meme? Well, I gotta call a time out because the arcane wizards are not evil. Their towers might look a little intimidating, but their voice lines are whimsical and fantastical! If anything, the arcane wizards in alliance only expand upon this, which to me makes them a better tower (and also they are way better in alliance. They got a real glow up eh?) compared to this to the kekromancer with the “with me I bring death!” And “darkness rises” and “fear the reaper!”. Much more darker tones there. What in trying to say is that I believe that the arcane wizards are better being more fantastical whereas towers such as the kekromancer and the eldritch channeler can have the darker undertones. Speaking of which. Eldritch channeler to me is a cooler blazing gem. I mean, just ask Alex playz, he likes the tower too! Crossbow fort. I know the shingles may give off an Asian vibe, but I don’t think they are Asian at all! Rather, they have a gothic European aesthetic that I really dig. They’re voiclines also give an off a special type of whimsy to them as well. Especially the “blackbird, flyyyyyy!” One. They’re like the alt/goth/emo/punk/egirl/whatever-the-fuck girl in you school but instead of being a narcissistic jerk she’s a really cool person to do work with and listen to music together. Weird wood. Funny tree is funny. Simple as that. Deep devils reef. If I could, I would beg and plead ironhide to bring back the deep devils and Corsair brother hood in an alliance campaign. I mean how cool would it be to see Captain blackthorne and junpai fight side by side?! I’d pay top dollar to see that!!! Dank knights: I don’t know why their tower is a giant helmet but whatever. At least they got great voiclines! Alliance and vengeance (and Junkworld): Say what you will about the new tower system; more towers allow for more creative designs. Even if you may not like the towers in alliance as much as I do I think they have their merits. In fact, call this blasphemy, but alliance has my favorite tower designs in the series. Seriously I love them. And the references are still spot on- I’ve already memorized most of them by now! I think this also is due to Junkworld. It had a couple of experimental designs they played around with, and that really shows with the later levels. It peaked with the underground levels giving us the Sumo Onsen, Magnetron tower, and the metal head rats. But before that there was the WiFi babies, the underground warriors, the drone squad, and plenty of other designs that definitely influenced both alliance and a little bit of vengeance. I think that’s all I have to say (it’s 1:27 at night at the time of typing this) so excuse me if I sound a little unhinged, but I hope what I said made sense. The art, music, and voiclines are what makes the kingdom rush series towers so special. Now for the next video I’d like to see a ranking of every thumbnail of vodukes streams. May Elaine have mercy on your soul. Oh and don’t get me started on the bonus towers. Hi Mark! Glad to hear you're getting things done in college; what are you studying? Wow, what a chunker of a comment! I just finished reading it, and I love hearing your thoughts.
