That’s a smart key all you had to do is touch your thumb on the door handle to unlock it. Key was within 5 feet and only the front door handles can do this. At 15:55 on the passenger handle I can literally see the little button to touch on the handle

This is precisely why I always crack a window or take the keys with me. I got locked out of my car while it was started in a scenario just like this. So I will always put the keys in my pocket or give myself enough window room to get my arm in there. Glad you at least had fun fishing. It’s ridiculous that it took them that long to come and help you. In this scenario I would just call the cops or a locksmith and have them bring a slim jim to unlock the door

  • @NoMoreInfo4You

I've locked the keys in my car numerous times. Now I have a hide away key holder stuck by magnet under the car. Keep a house key in there too. Also at gas pumps or anywhere I might be outside the car for a few minutes the window is left down enough to get my arm in if need be. Only the window part would help in a rental.

I m counting more Gators than you are counting fish. Why not try wading.
It may have been possible to cut rod tip at top guide and remove the rest then work the tip in at top of door and down to window down button or door unlock. Sacrificing your rod to allow you to gain entry would be better than spending the night in the middle of the everglades with no ride , food or water. Worse all those Gators come out at night to feed along with the Burmese pythons. I believe if the rod hack proved futile a rock to the passenger window would be in order.

I carry a backpack with some basic stuff, a pocket survival tent, water filter, a revolver plus 50 rounds of ammo, and a TON of tackle, line, weights, and my favorite combo I've ever put together. A Zebco Z-Cast 5'6" collapsible rod with a Shakespeare Durango reel with 30lb braid. It shouldn't work as well as it does but here we are. I break that thing out anytime I see water with fish.

  • @ipaulosan
    @ipaulosan ปีที่แล้ว +4

That is why I wear pants or shorts with pockets. As soon as I pull the keys from the ignition they go straight into the pocket. If they not in the ignition they're in my pocket. If I'm in the driver seat with the car on and need to step out to say get something out of the trunk or back seat before I drive off I will always lower the driver window just in case the car locks itself. Anyways glad to hear you were able to get out of this mess successfully.

When you unlocked the trunk, the key stayed in the latch. When you unlocked the car, it would not re-lock unless you had the keys/fob out of the car. Such a lifesaver on a rental! Fun vid!!!

Where I live in East Texas [the boonies/farming community] we do alot of pond hopping !
EVERY farm that has any amount of acreage/livestock usually will have several ponds some are small mudholes an some are huge 30-60 acre ,some are absolutely full of fish an some aren't !
There is 1 pond in particular that's within walking distance of my place and its on a piece of property that has been up for sale for ages [over 6 years] and its as you'd expect VERY overgrown an VERY hard to fish because of that BUT if your brave enough to weather a few chigger bites then this little pond is FULL of huge ''war mouth'' perch an they have a unique and beautiful coloration that I've NEVER seen anywhere else [I've fished ALOT of ponds etc] !
They are very colorful but what's unique is they have little black spots/dots all over them as if someone took a pepper shaker an gave them all a few shakes on each side !
Ive been fishing this area for decades an this is the ONLY place that I've EVER seen this particular color variation !

I've pulled up to Piney point boat ramp, and dropped my keys in the water about 50 ft from the ramp, with a giant storm coming. My cousin jumped off the back of the boat, and I don't know how, but found them in the murky water... miracle. Always an adventure!

Back before the proximity keys that communicate via Bluetooth to your car, I accidently locked my rental car at the airport and left part of my luggage inside the car. Most rental car companies keep a second set of keys at the rental car center, but after waiting 30 min, one of the attendants just grabs the tire iron from another car and unscrews the antenna off my car. He uses the tire iron part that's like a pry bar to take off the hubcap and wedges open the driver side door, then slips the antenna down to the unlock button. Unlocks the door barely 30 seconds after he started the process. It appears the tow truck driver used the same technique! Glad you didn't have to spend the night there. Night in the Everglades can be daunting.

Wow! Glad it worked out. I had a truck that would lock itself up. Ever since then I NEVER leave my keys in a vehicle unless the windows are down. Call me paranoid but I learned that lesson years ago.

If you want to catch tilapia try live worms. That's how I caught them in Costa Rica. They'll eat bread balls too but they come off the hook too easy.
I'm glad to see you catch so many native species and less invasives. The cold is a double edged sword, it knocks out invasives but it kills snook too.
I can't believe nobody helped you sooner. Bummer. I'm glad you didn't end up gator bait.

Same thing happened to me when I went fishing. Left the vehicle running to keep the ac going. Went to grab a flyer. When I got back to my vehicle, it had automatically locked. None of the doors would open. Thankfully I was impressed to check the hatchback door. It was unlocked! Had to crawl through to unlock the doors. Good thing because there was no one in sight the whole time I was there.

Same thing happened to me and my new truck. Turns out the battery in the key fob was low. No problems after replacing it.
I was lucky compared to Brant. It happened to me at a gas pump in the next little town away from my town. The station clerk, whom I had never met before, let me borrow her car to run home and retrieve my spare fob. I filled her gas tank and compensated her greatly for her generosity.

Enjoyed your video😅 I had a similar experience... I took my son and nephew fishing and on the way home, they wanted a drink out of the cooler, in the trunk. I stopped in the middle of the dirt road and handed my son the keys (no trunk button, of course). They got a drink and got back in. I asked where's the car keys? The look on their face was priceless (probablybecausetheythoughti was going to kill'em😅) Well, this is summer 1999....no cell phone. They both learned a valuable lesson that day! Hang on to the keys or you have to walk for miles in the heat!😅 I enjoyed watching them struggle, but we had a great adventure....from shade spot to shade spot😂😊❤

😛Wow! What patience, but I too would have waited - then smashed the window.
God willing, tomorrow, I'm going to create my key numbers so that I can use the outside key pad on my older vehicle. Been meaning to do that for years - but have AAA & forget that sometimes locals might not show up at all, as in your situation.😝

Sometimes you can break into your vehicle from underneath, depending on the model.
Look for a rubber stopper under the drivers seat. You can pull it out, and use a tool (like your hook pliers) to push up on the carpet until it releases the trunk latch.

Based on my experience. FYI, if you are stuck in Tamiami trail or Florida Keys, don't count on AAA because they say they are sending someone but they will never come!! Find a local person and expect to pay big $$$. But at least they will come.
He is lucky because it happened from sun up to mid day. If it happened when it was sun down, the mosquitoes would have killed you, literally.
