Brant, I can’t tell you how much joy your videos bring. You show the good the bad and the ugly of fishing. It’s such a fun thing to watch. Keep up the good work
I don’t think it’s the tastes of bass that keep people away. I believe it’s the “trophy” fisherman that are against eating them (especially freshwater fishermen)
Great video Brant love the variety you got with the new location changing things up are always good and as far as the bass goes I'm in the midwest they're highly sought-after for eating although my favorite is crappie and bluegill as far as frying
I caught a 5 pound bass (on 4 lb mono) a few weeks ago and decided to bake him. I brined him in the refrigerator in a mixture of salt water and white vinegar for a couple of hours. I them baked him covered in foil with nothing but salt and butter. I was astounded at how good the meat was. It was firm and sweet. You could simply pull the meat off the bones with a fork and dab it in the butter and bam! It was awesome. I got that brining trick from an old black gentleman I used to run into on the Chattahoochee River. He would catch and keep these great big carp which people consider trash fish. I asked him how good they were, and he said they were great. He told me he soaked the filets in white vinegar and buttermilk overnight and made fish stew with them. Brining with white vinegar, which is a natural meat tenderizer, is a good option for strong tasting fish or larger fish which are a bit tough.
Very entertaining video. Can't agree more on the taste of largemouth and crappie, bream which I also enjoyed growing up. Bream fried whole are tough to beat and finish it off with a tasty crispy tail. Nostalgic video for me. Nice job
As usual, wonderful to be able to join U on this trip. The places U take us are magical. Thanks for sharing Jordan. I always look forward to your adventures.
Holy smokes! Awesome fishing. Amazing the variety of freshwater and saltwater species that far inland. You’re one of my favorite fishermen because you’re so passionate about getting out there and enjoying the gifts of nature. 😊❤️
very nice video Brant! You brought me home to my childhood days of fishing. We kept alot of the fish including blue gill, crappie, small mouth bass, large mouth bass, walleye pike, northern pike and of course catfish and bull head. we releast the carp unless someone had the smoker fired up around football season. Des moines river in iowa was our hotspot. thanks for all you do to bring us the best past time ever created ....
What a great trip Brant. Thanks for taking me along. Nice job on the Pickerel. Absolutely not a N. Pike. LMB have always been desirable but the Florida region has always frowned on it. I have no idea why, Florida has always treated it as a trash fish, Not so in Texas, Louisiana, Kentucky. Tenn. I noticed it as soon as I moved here.
When it comes to large mouth bass I agree 💯% that they are a good eating fish but it’s sought after as such a trophy that no one really keeps them because they are throwing them back to get bigger till they become a trophy! That’s just my deduction from the experience I have as an angler. 🤔🤔🤔
We call that the 5 filet method and use that for northern pike or we smoke them whole at this size. Very tasty too and i love the meatyness of pike. Awesome Video Brant and much love from germany.
Great video. I love the way you hop around to different fishing locations. As far as lmb as far back as i can remember the freshwater fishing shows preached catch and release. So as time went on people thought it was because they tasted bad.
I’m from near Toronto, Ontario Canada and I/We love the taste of both Large mouth And Small mouth bass!! And now that I’ve Almost perfected filleting what We call Northern pike, yours is Jack or chain pickerel, I absolutely love it as well!! Your Jack is Much whiter meat colour than our pike. Ours is a Tan/orangey colour. Great videos, keep em coming!! 😉👍
I come from new york and when went up state we'd catch pickerel and they were damn good, boney AF like you said and even the lmb were incredible, love the video, haven't had to eat those in a while but trout and mangrove inshore is prob my favorite, but you throw in sheep's and flounder things change lol,but man you can make any fish edible,my fav fish...is fish thanks bud
I have eaten LMB for most of my adult life. To me, it's the best fresh fish to eat followed by tilapia. I like speckled trout baked and would like to see that on a catch clean and cook video.
Brant, I've watched a million of your videos, I don't think that you have ever you ever posted a video of a swing bridge when you were fishing off of a stationary bridge????? Its all good.
You do whatever kind of fishing, wherever you are going to do it, and I am going to watch, and wish I was there too. ALABAMA fishing up here in north part of the state, is fun, but I miss the saltwater variety, and size.
Minnesota fisherman here. With my pike I never eat the belly meat. If no Game warden is around they make a great big fish bait. Of course its legal in FLA. Did not know there was a southern variant.
I thought the pickerel was a northern pike, so I did some research and yes they are not the same fish but in the same family. So I assume it tastes the same as northern. Just found out this year that Canadians refer to northern as Canadian lobster. Lol. Great vid
Man I love eating them green river football bass in Louisiana. I think most ppl see bass as a sport trophy fish but they are a great fish to eat. When I started fishing redfish tournaments redfish didn’t make it to the menu unless I was in Louisiana at somebody’s fish fry or at a restaurant so I get the whole sport fish deal but imo crappie and hybrid or white bass are great to eat as well!!! Great videos 🎣🐠🤙
Brant, watch how to filet a northern pike. You can remove the Y bones so they are entirely boneless. My guess is it will work on the Chain Pickeral the same way. Check it out.
Hey Brant, I'm also in Pensacola and love your videos! I also like your new back yard kitchen! Would you mind helping me design one for my yard up here in Cantonment? Thanks in advance! John
I've never even heard of a chained pickerel until right now. If you'd kept fishing, there's no telling what else you might have pulled out of that river.
Yeah, I live in Beaumont, TX and fish the local waters when I have time but I grew up in the Chicago area and I prefer fresh water fish. Yellow perch, red-ear, pumpkin seed, and bluegill are my favorites. Not to say I don't like saltwater fish though..
Part of the issue is the size of that speck. They’re all good, but a 16-incher definitely tastes better. Bass are plenty good, but the sport fisherman do all they can to convince others not to eat them.
As far as eating bass goes I think it's just one of those fish that people like catching it more than eating it, especially since they have such large heads. But with that being said I did have a neighbor who didn't want to eat largemouth bass because the worms in their stomachs freaked him out. Also glad you got to do a clean and cook for a chain pickerel because I've heard they're good eating but a lot of people just don't like dealing with the bones. Until this video the only method I heard of to clean them was to cut off their heads, gut and skin them, and then make a bunch of perpendicular cuts in the meat so as to cut the many small bones, then fry the whole thing. The idea is that the bones have been reduced in size so much and they're so thin that they just soften up enough to where they don't become a problem anymore. Never tried it so I have no idea if it works since Chain Pickerel are so rare in my area. Never caught one in central FL yet.
I think Large Mouth Bass get a bad rap because as the fish you harvest get larger the filets get thicker and can be mushy. I just cut the filet in half thickness wise and problem solved.
I think bass fishermen spread the “garbage fish” myth about LMB so people throw them back and they grow bigger. I’ve never had LMB but SMB tastes great and is the funnest fish to catch in my opinion.
Sure looked like a Pike but I'll take your expertise for it ! 8 ) I'm in Oklahoma catch a lot of crappie on jigs but everything hits a jig and I catch a lot of bass as well. I don't keep the bass , not because I think they taste bad but because we sort of see them as pets and want them to get BIGGER ! LOL ! I know that is a bit silly but it is the common thought around here with all the guys that bass fish a lot. I my self have sinned and ate a few of them , A LONG TIME AGO , just don't tell my buddies ! * Fun video ! Which fish did the wife like best ? We like Her opinion too !
hey hey heyyyyyyyyyyy you said you wuz gonna eat what u caught-welp you owe us-aka the viewers a video of you eatin a lady fish-ouch-bout the bass-i eat a zillion of em-mmmmmm-and specs-mmmmm-lately cant afford to trout fish as costs 150 a trip and last two years didnt catch too good at crystal river-caught some up keaton beach way last year but thats 200 dollar bill from heer-tonights its specs from 2 weeks ago w some grouper from publix-mmmm w tartar sauce
So no I'm not a bot, even though I been accused of being one, because I don't have a active channel. I just don't want to put up with the goofy censorship that YT put creators through!🤣 You do get enough of them however! Where do they all come from? Great video, even though I personally don't care for LMB, for some times they can taste muddy.
Bass has a large mercury retention of all freshwater fish. I grew up eating bream, as well. but I disagree, salt water taste so much better. Give me a sheepshead or Trigger any day.
I didnt know people didnt like bass. I always thought it was one of the best but I grew up with a tourney bassfisher as a dad. One of the pickest eaters as a kid and would devour bass and brim. Only ever eat saltwater fish now because I am HORRIBLE at bass fishing but saltwater aint rough like bass fiahing.
Here in maine, bass flavor does change later in the summer. Truthfully, I think it's just freshwater elitist that say it's wrong to eat them. As far as chain pickerel, I ve caught a 9 pounder, state record is 9 and a quarter. Gotta filled the y bones out. Loved the vid, and thanks for taking on the controversial bass eating topic. They all taste great!
Idk, usually any largemouth bass that weigh under a pound or two taste pretty good, anything over that weight always seem to have a real muddy taste…and not worth eating…YMMV…
The Fish and Game, or the DNR are suppose to monitor fish populations and adjust bag limits. It should be difficult to deplete a lake if they are doing their job.
I wouldnt of taken either of those fresh water fish. Bass just are too fishy, and Northern pike are two damn boney. They have two sets of bones that u have fillet each side twice, a big pain in the ass.
People frown on eating bass cause of all the professional fishing where tgey turn everything loose. I've grown up eating more bass then catfish and I prefer it over any fresh water fish I've caught. I had a big fish fry and I had one person say to me tgat was the best catfish they have ever eaten. I said if it was catfish, I'd agree with ya. Lol. Told them it was bass and now tgey keep there bass to eat
Your videos are more than just entertainment, they are a journey into a world of beauty and wisdom. Thank you for your dedication!Your videos are always filled with deep meaning and emotion. Thank you for your creativity and effort!🎆💷🚗
Cornmeal fish fry
• 1 ¾ cups white or yellow cornmeal
• ¼ cup flour
• 1 tablespoon paprika
• 2 teaspoon salt
• 2 teaspoon lemon pepper
• ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
Brant, I can’t tell you how much joy your videos bring. You show the good the bad and the ugly of fishing. It’s such a fun thing to watch. Keep up the good work
I don’t think it’s the tastes of bass that keep people away. I believe it’s the “trophy” fisherman that are against eating them (especially freshwater fishermen)
The crazy thing is culling smaller bass helps the fishery… and they are yummy. 😂
Great video Brant love the variety you got with the new location changing things up are always good and as far as the bass goes I'm in the midwest they're highly sought-after for eating although my favorite is crappie and bluegill as far as frying

Didn't know the trout would get in that fresh of water! Blown away by it to be honest. A pickerel, largemouth, and trout in one spot. Crazy.
When it comes to large mouth bass I agree 💯% that they are a good eating fish but it’s sought after as such a trophy that no one really keeps them because they are throwing them back to get bigger till they become a trophy! That’s just my deduction from the experience I have as an angler. 🤔🤔🤔

Your "Jack fish" "look like our Northern Pike here in Canada. Not many eat Pike up here but our Pickeral is DELICIOUS!
Yea it’s a pike
Great video , really enjoy the cleaning and cooking process!
Great video. I love the way you hop around to different fishing locations. As far as lmb as far back as i can remember the freshwater fishing shows preached catch and release. So as time went on people thought it was because they tasted bad.
Always had better luck fishing under the bridges and in this case less traffic and out of the rain 😅

Outstanding video and great catch and cook! Keep up the great work
I love eating fresh fish, no matter it be freshwater or saltwater. Enjoyed the video, take care and I will see you on the next video
That was a fun adventure. That fish fry looked so good.
As someone who has no choice but to fish freshwater was nice seeing this video. Nothing wrong with largemouth or smallmouth bass for eating.
I come from new york and when went up state we'd catch pickerel and they were damn good, boney AF like you said and even the lmb were incredible, love the video, haven't had to eat those in a while but trout and mangrove inshore is prob my favorite, but you throw in sheep's and flounder things change lol,but man you can make any fish edible,my fav fish...is fish thanks bud

that blue sky that you were seeing is also known as a "sucker hole"...hahahaaaa
When I was stationed in Ft. Hood, I was always bass fishing and my wife would make escabeche out of them.
I have eaten many large-mouth bass from Lake Okeechobee,.
Man I love eating them green river football bass in Louisiana. I think most ppl see bass as a sport trophy fish but they are a great fish to eat. I can't imagine not eating LMB. I grew up eating them. They're excellent table fare.
I grew up eating bass and blue gills. I normally don't keep bass but definitely still eat all the different pan fish!!
The bots are on fire today!! 🤣🤣
The bots can kiss my cyber ass.
21:42 God bless you! 😎🤙
Brant, watch how to filet a northern pike. You can remove the Y bones so they are entirely boneless. My guess is it will work on the Chain Pickeral the same way. Check it out.
Fishing in the rain.....My favorite...What else? TV?
Hey Brant, I'm also in Pensacola and love your videos! I also like your new back yard kitchen! Would you mind helping me design one for my yard up here in Cantonment? Thanks in advance! John
I've never eaten pickerel but that meat looked really clean and white. If I ever catch one, I'll have to try it.
I've never even heard of a chained pickerel until right now. If you'd kept fishing, there's no telling what else you might have pulled out of that river.
What a crazy variety of species!
Yeah, I live in Beaumont, TX and fish the local waters when I have time but I grew up in the Chicago area and I prefer fresh water fish. Yellow perch, red-ear, pumpkin seed, and bluegill are my favorites. Not to say I don't like saltwater fish though..

Love some fried LMB! Never had the jack. Gonna have to give it a go next time I get one
As far as eating bass goes I think it's just one of those fish that people like catching it more than eating it, especially since they have such large heads. But with that being said I did have a neighbor who didn't want to eat largemouth bass because the worms in their stomachs freaked him out.

Learned something new today!
That trout is some fine eating 😋❤️
my buddy Tommy used to back flip off that exact bridge
If you aint Sneezin, you aint seasonin bruh...real talk.
I get up eating Large Mouth bass in Ohio. Can't go wrong with the taste! Great video as always Brad!
Grew up
Grew up
Great vid, Grant! Keep it up!
Oops - Brant, not Grant.
I think Large Mouth Bass get a bad rap because as the fish you harvest get larger the filets get thicker and can be mushy. I just cut the filet in half thickness wise and problem solved.
Shiners are the ultimate fishing cheat code.
I think bass fishermen spread the “garbage fish” myth about LMB so people throw them back and they grow bigger. I’ve never had LMB but SMB tastes great and is the funnest fish to catch in my opinion.
Fishing in Milton, Fl, as Milton, the hurricane is on the way.
That all looked delicious
Another great video ✅

Good catch. Need a favor. Please show your tie and leader rigs more in your videos. Thanks.
People throwing back so they can win a million dollars to catch him in a tournament I'm talking about the largemouth bass

You do get enough of them however! Where do they all come from? Great video, even though I personally don't care for LMB, for some times they can taste muddy.
Largemouth bass get worms down in the south in mud bottom lakes. The river is sand.
Bass has a large mercury retention of all freshwater fish. I grew up eating bream, as well. but I disagree, salt water taste so much better. Give me a sheepshead or Trigger any day.
Like I used to tell my mom when she would say but it's raining and my responce was yeah but the fish are already wet so it evens the playing field
I didnt know people didnt like bass. I always thought it was one of the best but I grew up with a tourney bassfisher as a dad. One of the pickest eaters as a kid and would devour bass and brim. I'll buy those skipjack Haring from you! 😄 out here in texas those are catfish candy!
That pickerel is like eating candy
Like a lobster sweetness.
now I'm hungry!!!
Idk, usually any largemouth bass that weigh under a pound or two taste pretty good, anything over that weight always seem to have a real muddy taste…and not worth eating…YMMV…
more go pro drops please
LMB is a great game fish good survivability on multiple catch and release. As a meat IMHO it is so bland, edible for certain but bland as heck.
I don't eat lmb because they smell nasty can't get past the smell.
They don’t know what good fish is
Fresh is better but I love fishing for salt
Bass take 14 yrs to maturity is what I was told. So if you are keeping and eating them you will deplete an area.
Tournament people shame you for keeping LMB
Cleaning jack fish all wrong
😂🎉🎉😢😮
Lmb one of my favorites to fry
