Hey Reid I had a question, how would you use the f6 side chain in Ableton? When i try to sidechain my instrumental with my lead vocal with the F6 i realize I can't because their isn't an audio input section!
The reverb tail upon the end of karras voice when Reid presses the stop button creates frision so great, I can't help but close my eyes and feel the effect of whatever sauce is used in this production dinner, and God bless you Reid really 🌳✝@reid Stefan
I never have the cpu power to mix vocals with the beat, so I always do it over the full unmastered instrumental when I make my songs. If your instrumental is mixed well enough I find you don't really need the whole multitrack. Especially if you finish your mixes through tape or with a tape plugin, it tames the high end in a smooth way that leaves extra space for a vocal to shine through.
Dipping the instrumental sidechained to the most resonant frequencies of the vocal is such a great idea! I’m working on making my tracks sound cleaner and these little details really go a long way. Thanks Reid! I wonder how you would do that on Ableton 😊
One way to do that might be to use a multi-band compressor or use EQ3/Eq8 to split the frequencies, after you find the most present vocal frequencies you can use the normal side chain compressor and that should get you close
thanks for taking your time to teach us, young producers. I like the way the beat has been mixed and mastered. Please can you give me a video tutorial on how the beat has been done, mixed and mastered??? Please please
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the side chain of the fifth band was set to Internal, and not External, so the vocal wasn't actually triggering the side chain - the beat itself was. Also, wouldn't you have to route the vocal to the beat, before the F6 could even pick up the vocal signal?
Really interesting video!!! Have been working on covers (with Vocal + stereo bounce track) for 2 years and this is a process I've never thought about!! Just got 1 question: Instead of sending each vocal & FX channel to an aux bus, what if I just change the output of the same tracks instead? Would work the same? Then apply the same process as you explained in the video. Thanks Reid!!! keep it up ;)
@Reid Stefan : Damn man! The tip on using that EQ-sidechain was solid gold. How come I didn't think of it myself? Also: I wonder how you do the videos; first make your tutorial in a comfortable way en then reshoot the video with the puppet. Or is it somehow done in one take? 🧐
Doug Skillmore yeah I achieve most of my “mastering loudness” by aggressively limiting and compressing the drums group, and less aggressive settings with my actual mastering plugins!
i do side chain the vocal to the beat and have it bring down about 1 to 2db......... but what is a good attack and release for that? quick as possible? anyway sorry for rambling keep up the great vids bro.
How do you deal with the whole "LUFS" loudness thing? It seems that you still go for maximum loudness, although Spotify etc are decreasing the volume when a track is too loud. Just wondering if you look out for this stuff anyhow.
Hi! Thanks for the vid man. Question though - now come when I route my vocal to the F6, the compressor is still ‘working’ when my vocal isn’t even playing? I don’t want to compress the entire song, just when my vocal hits... support on this would be VERY much appreciated!
So quick question, nobody talks about recording and mixing vocals with a beat that isnt mastered. Like if I produced a beat, then recorded vocals. Like is there a certain method to mixing them all together. PLEASE.... PLEASE ANYBODY HELP
I can't figure out a way to "key input" in Ableton with the f6, it doesnt give me the option to draw audio from an external source, maybe I just can't find the button idk
Hi Reid, great tips! Question: wouldnt it be better if you sidechain not in stereo but only mid? After all it is only the processed vocal set in mono at the mid of the mix.
Glad to see you outside reid, you look like you need sunlight.
This puppet makes me appreciate sidechain more and more everyday

Yeah! StandardClip is was really the best choice for this track. Sounded the cleanest while still boosting the volume another notch.
this concept is sooooo cool lol the puppet makes this whole process more cold
Listening your tracks on trap nation
Dude you deserve a grammy
I can't watch this without laugh dude, I'm trying my best
Awesome job, and the puppet during the drops is sick af
This is my first time watching your Chanel. I never knew that a puppet could inspire.😂

Could you make a video about how to use Busses in Ableton Live? Thank you!
th-cam.com/video/8fcGb8AWHvE/w-d-xo.html
just group ur shit.. or use a send.. so basic bro
Busses are SO easy, compared to how they are setup in Protools or other DAWs. It´s as easy as it gets honestly.
adl0815 until you’ve made your 12th aux and ableton tells you you’ve exceeded the limit 🙃
Well, then your officially f*cked. 😁
It’s crazy coz now I’m looking at the puppet feeling’ it! 😂😂😂😂

You're right
i got a headache now man
I agree with everything you said but dont know wtf youre talking about 🤷🏿♂️
that drop is so good
during the sidechain ducking on the F6 you didnt set the Sc source to external you did but on the 6th band which is disabled
Happy Labor Day Reid

Could you make a video showing how you’d mix beat + vocals on Ableton?
You make me smile
I'd like to request a video on warping acapella's please! (I know there are videos out there, but they are not very clear)
jus the general "mix glue" bus is great information . for a good while i was letting things fight it out on the master bus smh lololol

Boom
hello do you have any videos on how to fid the vocal reverb tone to match the instrumental?
does this still need to be mastered ?
What reverb was used here/how did you manipulate it I need to know lol 🔥
Did you get their song for this video, or was it you mixing it? 😍

QUICK QUESTION! Do I dither at the end if the mastered instrumental is obviously dithered but the vocals aren't?

I routed all the vocals and fx to a bus and mastered it independently to minimise any limiting on the mastered track, but not ideal of course.
that drop lead omg

Hi do you think the basic MacBook Air m1 is good enough for recording vocals only ? (Used a beat already mastered) 🤔
do you do mixing and mastering services?
Is there any alternative waves plug in for Distressor?
Puigchild or ssl comp, cla-2a or rvox will work as well
Ill be at ur Icon Q&A!!

What would be the logic plugin equivalent for the distressor/glue?
Can you make a protools template
When I record I don't record that loud but I can hear it in the mix as far as the beat, can that be removed in post?
Sir plz use fl studio..
So I don't have to remaster the whole beat when I'm done I just have to master the vocals or to I have to do everything
audio visual wizardry!
reid why dont you Solo Safe your Aux Tracks

Hi Reid, great tips! Question: wouldnt it be better if you sidechain not in stereo but only mid? After all it is only the processed vocal set in mono at the mid of the mix.
What software is he using
Is it possible to side chain more than just one lead vocal. Like if I have two people on the track
Send both vocals to one aux bus and make that aux bus the one that gets side chained to
