Just about every question a have you have a video for, your a star. I just bought an ID core 100 (not quite sure why for home use but it was cheap) what a great amp, made my pedal board just about redundant.
Thanks for this helpful vid! I got the ID Core 10 about a month ago, hadn't dl'd the Insider yet. Watched this and then installed both Insider and Audacity and I was recording in 10 mins. Great tutorial. Thanks Dave.
Hi Dave, I followed your guidance for my Blackstar ID 30 TVP Amp - Insider Software, plus I downloaded the current version of Audacity.Crackin guidance... my 1970 Fender Stratocaster (Re-issue) Olympic White Rosewood Fret-board, Blackmore style "Black" pickup covers control knobs etc... sounds great plays great... Identifies my need to practise more... Thanks for guiding a 62 year old Rock Dude to feeling more like 22 again...
:D Proud owner of the ID260, ID60H, and HT20 (versatile, small, valve, awesome ) :D ID floorboard... the idea being to get rid of the speaker box, and offer the ID Core or TVP engine in a more transportable format. Light, hardy chassis, dual inputs, stereo out, two expression pedals, loop, tap tempo, freeze/hold effect on the reverb...all the super, extra super cool stuff a working muso can use... I'd pay for, and would love the support of the ID features in a floorboard, that let's me DI to the desk, and decide on how big (if any) an on-stage speaker box I need. Rock on Blackstar
You should write to blackstar as I think many guitar players would agree but the only problem is... Companies these days want you to buy all their products, one amp for recording and one amp for home practice and one for Stage use, if they made an amp that does it all it would be in the price range of a Kemper and upgrades and add ons will be pricey too.
Carlos Vallejo look up the manuals on Blackstar website. The v1 needs insider to switch between stereo processed audio, dry DI and reamp mode. The V2 has all of these available at all times in multiple channels. You could do some neat stuff like take both the processed and the dry input, add effects to the dry input and combine the two to get a clean guitar playing alongside your dirty guitar. I have the V1 10 watt for reference.
Hi Dave!! Thanks for the video!! I got a question about the switch pots for les paul. I wanna upgrade my les paul replica with iron gear pickups and i saw this switch POTS and how they works given to the pickups a better sound. Do you know simething about it?? Shoul or shouldnt install in my harness pickups ?? Thanks!!
They will not make the pickups sound any better than they already do, however they will give you more sound possibilities, like phase, coil tap etc. personally I'm old school and would wire them to the existing harness.
Hello Dave. Nice video...👍 But the software "Insider" has been replaced with "Architect". It looks very different now... Are you going to make a new video with this new software and Audacity? 🎶🎸
regarding input guitar levels for recording... see the idcore manual.... you hold down the tap button and turn the gain knob.... or something similar.....to increase or decrease the input signal volume. also ...see the idcore manual for other related info ....like media play back volume etc..... There is more to this little amp than meets the eye.
I have windows 10 and it's not working and second, is there any way where I can just use my laptop speaker as output device, don't want sound to come from amp. Tried setting output device to my laptop's speaker. But no luck.
Any body have a fix for eating recordings? Done as in the video, connected to PC USB 3.0. After recording when I want to hear what was recorded, all the time the sound recording is eaten every 3 seconds missing half second of recorded sound and I hear every 3 seconds crack. Someone said that it need to record with 48KHz, I changed it in audacity but it's still the same :/
Could be a fault with your software, are there any breaks in the recording, you can see visually in audacity, if no breaks in the actual audacity recording it is most probably a fault or issue with your soundboard. If there are breaks in the recording could be software, usb connection or again the sound card. Try updating the Blackstar firnware first.
After a year I bought a cable for blackstar ID:Core 40 V1 and it automaticly updated the software of amp to 1.2.1 or 1.2.3 I think. (Program on PC v1.8.1). I will try different USB ports but I don't think this will help :/
On headphones via amp it sounds all OK. I can record it fine just jack pined to phones jack slot and to soundcard (microphone slot) but it have worst sound quality. But via USB it's like that as I mentioned :/. I didn't had time to try different USB slots yet. I will wrote here when I finally will try it on different USB slots.
sounds like it could be a bandwidth issue, like the USB isn't transferring fast enough to keep up. are you using a USB hub? I think USB 2.0 should be adequate, and make sure you have a decent cable they're not ALL rated for exactly the same transfer speeds I don't think. it shouldn't have anything to do with your settings like bit depth or sample rate i wouldn't think. on almost all motherboards, not all the USB ports are created equal. some are faster than others. you want to use the primary ports that are, hopefully, USB 3.0 (unless you have an older computer). USB 3.0, with a good cable, will at least eliminate the possibility that transfer speed or signal degradation is the issue. so definitely try other USB ports.
No, but why not use the free version of Studio One that comes with the ID Core? Nothing wrong with Audacity, but a proper DAW will be better suited to high quality multitracking.
I know I'm late on this, but has anyone had issues with sound quality when recording? I just played back my first test and it sounds scratchy and distorted.
What I find interesting is that you mentioned (@1:21) that you used the USB Stereo Out to record, but there's a video (actually referred to as a "webcast") uploaded by Blackstar where they instead used the 3.5mm Jack on the little FLY amp to record, which I thought was pretty cool to know that apparently recording can be done either way. I think using the USB Stereo Out makes the most sense though and is probably the most simple and best way to go about it. *Edit*: I hope you've recorded more songs and things besides the intro and outro of this video, I'd really like to hear it!
I hardly record anything apart from live gigs using my mobile (cell) phone. with the blackstar id core it has a built in audio interface The Fly does not, you get much better results with the id core.
Dave - use Reaper. It's free to try and $60 for a licence. Amazing software, with a channel on here that will tell you all you need to know - Reaper TV. I dumped Sonar (about £300 at the time) for it.
with me reaper do a crazy noise while I'm recording, like a tv noise without signal, there's no interference around my setup, it's like a bug and I've already seen someone with the same problem at reddit
When I record the audio is very low almost nothing to where you can barely hear it is there any way to boost the recording volume I’ve tried what I know there is unless you know
Just a minor niggle that I hope most people would realise anyway: When you say "Playback volume is here..." you actually accidentally pointed to playback speed. DON'T MESS ABOUT WITH THAT! Unless you want to change the speed. Other than that, nice work sir.
Did Blackstar fix the 'bricked' disaster with their ID:Core series on this V2? I'm considering buying one of these but I've heard a lot of nightmarish stories about the firmware updates killing the amp rendering it completely dead, and Blackstar denying it - ignoring the customers. www.blackstaramps.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5194 www.blackstaramps.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5845

You solved my issue I had recording off the ID Core. Thanks so much!
I think you can press the tap button and use the gain knob to turn up or down the usb output volume. Something like that

Thanks a lot man, very informative and thorough. I appreciate this video!
Glad it was helpful!
Wow, Thanks for showing the multitrack function, really sweet.
so, the ID core does not have the feature to allow you to record? it only acts as an interface?
Did what you said & I got nothing but heavy distortion ( not the good kind) even on the clean channel with record volume set low
hmm sound wrong
@@DaveBarlowGuitar sorry I didn't say so before great video very clear instructions, I'll update your community when I have an answer to the issue 👍
No sound coming to Audiacity. Why?
Great video man works awesome!
What if I use an external sound card (Focusrite)?
info is now out of date so cant really help any more on this subject, sorry
Thanks for the video. Worked like a charm!
Thanks man, this Amp is very cool, but can cou explain me please, that is the difference between ID:CORE V1 an V2 ?
I have no idea apart from the effects I think.
Ok, thanks for the answer my friend, great review!

What's better the emulated out or the usb for recording
Did you figure it out mate?
@siddharthgurumayum7505 their both horrible hahaha 😆 😂 I mean for rough mixes use the emulated out, it depends on your style*taste

@@DaveBarlowGuitar Update- Finally it worked. Problem was insider app needed the update...
Are you just plugged the amp to pc with type B?
I have no idea what you are asking, sorry
@@DaveBarlowGuitarhe is asking if you plugged it into PC with USB type B, the older form factor plug before micro usb. For me it doesnt work either
Great video! And I see your close to 1000 subscribers too!
Do you need to install the Blackstar Insider software or just Audacity ?
I think you need both as the blackstar also downloads the codec which you need.

Fantastic video! If anybody knows where I can find a ID core 20 V2 in the US please post. I can only find V1's.

Did you mic your ID Core or you went in straight?
I know I'm late on this, but has anyone had issues with sound quality when recording? I just played back my first test and it sounds scratchy and distorted.
turn down the recording volume
Sorry, I should have mentioned I tried messing with the input levels and it didn't change anything. Still scratchy and distorted. Thanks anyway Dave
Check, leads etc this is probably more likely the culprit.
I'm going to sound like an idiot here, but, what do you mean by leads? Sorry, I'm pretty ignorant with electronics, unfortunately.
Wanted to update: Got a new USB cable. Works fine now. Not sure what was wrong with the other one, it was new, but it's all good now. Thanks for help.
