Hi, Tim. Thank you very much. I am new to PLC, and really struggled to find my device in Studio 5000 "Who Active". Didn't know about RSlinx before. You saved me a lot of time and effort
Hey Tim, nice video. I worked in manufacturing as an E&I tech for decades at one place. Our engineers must have done all the legwork to get the entire plants PLCs separated by department and machine. As a troubleshooter/programmer all I had to do was navigate to the correct icon on our shared drive and double click. RSLogix would open and as long as the running PLC program matched the file on the share drive, I could just click ‘go online’ and voila I was online and able to do on-the-run program changes/troubleshooting. And all of this was wireless also! Now I have been to other smaller facilities where IP addresses, Boot P, network adapter settings and everything you are going over is my new reality. Learning a lot in the last several years and keep these great videos coming! Thanks!
Tim... thanks for this video. This is coming from a guy who has dabbled with PLC5's and SLC's... then quite a few years of no PLC action... and I now find myself getting into dabbling with CompactLogix PLCs for some troubleshooting. Still early in the day here, but this was probably the best 10 minutes I'll spend today :)
Hello! I have a question. I am working on a project that has the PLC talking to a C# app. This is a pill bottle labeling system. There is a photoeye that detects the label passing out of the printer. But its only on for a second, the library used a call method. A call will not catch a second on photoeye. Is there a event send realtime that the app can see?

Hi Tim, I'm planning to buy the IP address explorer tool but I want to know if I can I use this to discover the IP address of the controller thru the ethernet switch?
Hi Nilo, you sure can. See application example below. www.theautomationstore.com/how-to-discover-ethernet-devices-on-an-unknown-network-using-plc-tools-sim-ipe-ip-explorer/
I recently got a new computer and when I transferred my Rockwell license from my old computer to new I had to go to Rockwell site and get latest versions of the tools I need to do my job. Needless to say Rockwell does net vend or support RSLogix 5000 anymore and makes you upgrade to Studio 5000. When I downloaded the studio 5000 and factory talk I was also expecting RSLinx classic but they have stopped this as well. Apperently you conect using studio 5000 now and it is slightly confusing for me mainly because the procsess has changed.
I installed Studio 5000 just now, and it seems linke RSLinx is not installed along with it. SHould I download it of just use Studio 5000 to make the connection?
Thanks . Please what to do if we local network (192.168.1.XX)used on the Ethernet card and we have a plant network (10.4.49.XX). Trying to connect but I can’t with rslinx
Hi, Tim. I have a question that stuck in my head and I still didn't get answer yet) Is is possible to send data using MSG from ControlLogix Emulate to Micrologix1100 Emulate throught Channel 0 using COM-0-COM Emulator? What I did: 1. Set up two drivers in RsLinx (for Virtual backplane and SLC) 2. In each Emulate configured Channel 0 and assigned COM ports 3. In Studio5000 built program using MSG 4. Picked "SLC typed write", assigned tag for source element like INT or Dint (16 and 32 bits respectively) 5. Assigned the destination element like N9:0 or L10:0 . My MSG instruction is executing and I see flashing Done bit ( i did MSG through TON) but nothing in Rslogix500 data file.
Hi Ivan, I haven't worked enough with Emulate to know. But hit the basics first, make sure the error bit isn't being set and there is no error value. These would clear the next time you enable your message.

@@TimWilborne I'm not. I've watched multiple of your videos and done what you show but for whatever reason it's not letting me set the IP address of the plc. When I set the PLC address in boot p it allows me to do it but when I ping that address I don't get a response. I've tried using a USB cable but it says it's not compatible or can't find drivers. I went into my laptops network settings and manually set the IP like you said. Then I assign a IP with the first two sets of numbers the same to the plc then I try pinging it but it just isn't working. I'm starting to think I have a incompatibility issue with my laptop or something.
@@TimWilborne is it possible that the PLC already has an IP address but I'm just not able to see it or find it? Would that stop me from being able to set the IP in bootp?

Hello sir...how to communicate Allen brandly(compactlogix) to other plc like omran? Would you upload these related details?
I am not that familiar with Omron but I would look to see if it supports Modbus TCP or Ethernet /IP, those would be the easiest ways.
