NZ Deep South Part 13 - Pounawea to Balclutha (Waitangi Day Weekend)

Our Waitangi Day Weekend exploits. We slowed down our travel over this weekend, getting a site booking at Kaka Point. Our rides were only short as we did not want to get into Balclutha too early with the forecast heavy rain for Monday of the long weekend. We decided we would rather be in a large town than stuck in a basic camping area with few facilities around. As it turned out the weather on both Saturday and Sunday was glorious for a beach interlude. We explored Kaka Point and visited The Nuggets Lighthouse. Balclutha was a bit of a ghost town on Monday (the Waitangi Day holiday) with most venues closed, due to the cost of paying staff I guess. We rode and walked about to explore the town a bit, focusing on a couple of great (open) cafes and bars. The rain came late, but it was a downpour for a few hours, and we stayed in the nice camp kitchen.
