This was a great video Greg, thanks for pointing out the flaws with PC Pick Picker. Even had a fairly well informed enthusiast, this is something I've never though about, that it can wildly skew prices when it comes to older gen hardware. Keep up the good work.
Love this video, Greg. I love budget and frugal thinking. Keep up the great work. I'm slowly building a new computer. No real hurry. I'm taking a few years to do this. It's great picking up ideas, Thanks. My home workhorse computer is a 2009 Dell Studio XPS 435mt and it still does a lot. I call it my book keeper. In my area there is always EXTREMELY overpriced computers that are worded very well, and very misleading. Key phrase: "You could build ..." It's rather surprising how many wouldn't even think of doing so themselves. I built a computer/Plex server for barter with my electrician in exchange for he running Ethernet cabling thru my home. He's a master electrician; I couldn't do half of what he can do, has done, but he's technically challenged when it comes to using computers, let alone building one. It's crazy! So from the seller's point of view, I don't think it's over-priced. I bought my first PC from gateway in 1990, a 386-16 SX for $2500, and it was hardly top of the line and though I wouldn't pay that seller for that system, it doesn't seem so outrageous to me. But great video and very good points I'd not considered. Thanks!
You made a lot of valid points in this video. What really stands out for me is how much people are willing spend for RGB and other bling these days. For me the priority has always been performance. I don't need a multi colored rainbow of lights shining out of my PC case.

This kind of thing is so common on craigslist in my area. I enjoy building and flipping computers and use pc part picker as a tool to sell computers. Most of my parts are used so I just find the model of the part an input the price manually for exactly what I paid for it. (Unless I got a stupid good deal, I'll mark it up to at least what they are going for used.) And I charge 20 bucks for a windows key. 50 bucks for the build fee, this includes assembly, windows install and I will spend an hour or so with you kinda showing you the ropes on haw to use it, ie install games, game clients etc

Lol I just built myself an 9900k,2080ti(not cheap,an Aorus model),32g,1tb Evo+ , h115i platinum cooler, back in early December for the same price! This is also including a 240hz Gsync monitor. Crazy what he's asking and it's a shame bc some poor misinformed soul will actually buy it.
I think I'm just not used to your green-screen format, but it looks sharp like a new camera/lense? Pretty good lighting, looks like you have a focus of the lights aimed across your face, not sure if this is intended.
We built one out so similar to your specs. Great points. Keep it up! We stayed well under your budget but we bargain shop. Microcenter yellow tags and used. Got the 1070 FTW from the Black Plasma Studio guys for a sweet deal else it would have been a 1660 Ti.
I see a lot of these type of sellers on FB Marketplace. In our country, buyers are easily fooled and I’m kind of feel pity for people buying these products. It is very important that we should make our research first before making a purchase.
Yesterday I saw a prebuilt at MicroCenter with a 2080TI and a 3900X for $2300. I don't remember the other specs, but I do remember that it wax a mini itx build.
My calculation in $1850 AUD (I'm from down under) - $1300 USD at best for the parts alone, with possibly another $50 - 100 for the actual putting it all together, so looking at $1300 USD to start but not budging over $1400.
Another reason not to buy someone else's mouse and keyboard are that these things are very much a matter of personal preference. I have four keyboards and seven mice that I use, I can't remember how many HIDs I've tried over the years to end up with eleven that are satisfactory, but using whatever HIDs come with a computer is like buying some shoes that are described only as "shoes' and trying to make do with them.
First question: How long would it take you to build that? Second question: How much do you charge an hour when freelancing? Take those two answers and multiply and that's your upcharge
You ain't bullshitting, I've seen too many people charge brand new or above for their used systems, even seem some flipping optiplex builds for $200 - $300 labor to "build". I'd charge someone $75 to build a pc, more if they want me to install software and drivers / updates, etc.
I mean, 2500$ 3ish years ago would be possibly ok....The labor on the lighting/cable management idk, i'd have a hard time determining it's price, like it takes me 2 hours at least to put a pc together and i'm kinda picky about wiring/cable management so there's that. But it's insane the guys' marketing a 1070 as "new" in the first place. Along with like 2 year old cpu. Wonder if the pictures are even of this/last year? Keep up the great work Greg!
I built a 3800x on a x570 master with a MSI 2080 Super inside a H510 elite(only new item) via just the used market for 1700 CAD!!! It was a good learning experience of the actual value of components
That’s crazy! I see it all the time on offer up ridiculous prizes on things they probably got cheaper... I prefer to sell parts alone , I recently sold my old gtx 1080ti for 350dollars , while people still want to sell it for 800 “used”
I have my R5 2600X overclocked and Corsair H55i 120mm is enough to cool it, i swapped the the included fan with Noctua. I used same cooler on Xeon and it has server for 3 years.
I sold a very similar system (Ryzen 7 1800x vs this 2600x) for 750 a few months ago. I made $125 AND I got to build a really nice system (which is mostly what I enjoy doing). Granted I didn't include any peripherals, but I think the guy who bought it still got a great deal.
I liked the break down on this one. Btw, fun fact, you said Toyota and my kind went "he means either a Corolla or a Camry" lol but great break down. I've been wanting to ask and ya kinda mentioned it here near the end but labor, what's your vote on that charge? I've built my own, tell friends or people I talk to I'd build theirs if they buy the parts, simple as that. In my estimation, if I was to even charge to build, I would think 2-250 is about as fair and top as I would think you could charge labor. Even that seems high unless that involved price shopping the build, getting the ideas they wanted all in one, picking up parts (if at the store local), etc...but I was curious as I don't think I've heard ya throw what ya think it should be? I mean, the systems ya pull arent like super custom or anything so of course I'm saying average joe for these builds price. Either way, great vid and great ways to keep people informed about their purchases.
I sold my used system with a 6600k, a nice z170 board, 250 gb ssd, and a 1 tb hard drive, with my gtx 1080 ftw for literally 600 dollars cause that’s what it is worth lol. No upselling
Whilst most probably won't, still a good idea to buy a full retail license at least be a bit bad rep if they came back finding their windows got deactivated, unlikely as it is especially if youre selling pcs as a side hustle or living
damn that price on the 1070 is wild lol. I managed to snag a 1070 Ti used (local used market because no ebay), seen it run in person and handle even firestrike stress test loop easily. Cost me 210$, unicorn price since they usually go for 300$ here cheapest in EU in my country. EVGA SC BLACK. For lolz I took my slim 360 rad (that I am not using anymore, got a new case so thick rads) and small reservoir/pump (upgraded to bigger one and new because old one started whining at higher RPMs just like some AIOs do). Block cost me 60€ new (managed to get it at a discount). Enjoying lovely 38C max at full usage +600 memory and +210 core (2135 mhz core). Lovely thing, outperforms stock 1080 by a bit and has 6% perf over stock cooler + OC it seems. My bro is enjoying that upgrade and the sweet silence too with noctua nf-a12x25s at 1200rpm. Probably cost me less to watercool and buy this 1070 Ti than that guys 1070 price.
My R9 3900x with 32GB of G.Skill Trident Z 3200 with an RTX 2070 Asus ROG Strix and Asus 450 board with new parts didnt even come close to being as expensive as that guys asking price. That was a skilled builder using shady tactics for a quick buck.
There's nothing wrong with shiny fans and LED strips, but they're purely aesthetic, and I'd buy them only if I were looking to complement my build in the future. I don't get it why people think their used build is worth the MSRP. Also, word of advice: Corsair warranty is technically non-transferable, it's meant only for the original buyer, good luck trying to RMA something without the receipts.
you can build that pc in my country with same specs for 800$. except for psu would be bronze+ not gold+ and that motherboard would be x470 as it should be considering its a ryzen 2600. idk why people love investing in parts which doesnt really matter
I always charge 4% of the total cost of the parts to put them together. I find this balances out to a reasonable charge depending on the complexity of the build :)
I love my 1070 mini it is my backup card for my 1080 ti if it dies I have some stop gap card and a tester card. More than likely i'll give the 1070 to a family member when I upgrade their rig in a year or so.
How much would be a fair price for these specs? Gpu: 1080 ti asus strix Cpu: i7-9700k Memory: corsair vengeance 32gb 3200 mhz Storage: 3×1 tb ex920 m.2 nvme Psu: corsair rmx white series 750 watt Motherboard: z390 gigabyte aorus master Fans: four ml140 pro LED Case: nzxt h500 And all custom looped
My brand new build with a 9700k, 2080 Super, similar lighting and AIO, and 3440x1440 100hz monitor was around 2500 so this is definitely out of control
and I did go out of the way to add lights and other unnecessary bells and whistles that could cut the price down significantly and be put towards performance
I see too many people selling their old stuff on ebay/carousell for the price that they bought it. Someone tried to sell their Surface Pro (the original) for $3000 because he bought it for $3200 😕
So I have a bunch of nephews and there all under 13 years old, most are under 6... I wanted to prepare them for success by gathering material on computer literacy and i wanted to build a computer with them that we could all use for blockchain node interface, programming, and video/graphics editing along with learning about Open source stuff like Linux. Could you do a video on some of those points? The blockchain im interested in showing the older ones is Cardano.
That system is robbery. For $2500 I built a system with a Ryzen 7 3800X, MSI X570 Unify, 32GB CL 16 3600 MHz G.Skill Trident Z Neo, XFX RX 5700 XT Thicc 3 Untra, 2 2TB M.2 NVMe Gen 3 drives, and a costume open loop cooling system with 9 ARGB 120mm fans all stuffed in a Lian Li 011 Dynamic case. If I build a PC for for someone in my local area I only charge parts + 10% for labor.
Yeaaah, no. I've got a build almost just like that with a 3600X I picked up on Black Friday and a GTX 1060 I brought over from my last build (waiting until the 30 series drops to upgrade and get a 1440p monitor), including a pair of M.2s, comparably priced motherboard, and CableMod cables in a Meshify C, and all that still falls well short of the $2000 mark.
Sure, it's beautiful... but would you pay $2500 for it?
Never!
Hard to resist. It's white. But then I realised...I can build it myself for less!
Thanks Greg! Would reccomend this video. 10/10

These are becoming my favorite kind of videos from this channel. BTW I'm not used to you without glasses. They're kinda your trademark look. Great video as always! ✌️😄
Just bought that same gpu used off Ebay last week for $190, great bang for buck.
Great job on the video and overall sugetions for making this a better system and a better value.
We built one out so similar to your specs. Great points. Keep it up! We stayed well under your budget but we bargain shop. Microcenter yellow tags and used. Got the 1070 FTW from the Black Plasma Studio guys for a sweet deal else it would have been a 1660 Ti.
Greg: Toyota Corolla
RealLifeLore: *hello there*
Greg make a $2500 white build that will smoke this PC. Would be a fun video
Now I actually want to see you build the $2500 pc you were talking about at the end. I bet it'll be an epic build!
dude this green screen videos are just great!
I see a lot of these type of sellers on FB Marketplace. In our country, buyers are easily fooled and I’m kind of feel pity for people buying these products. It is very important that we should make our research first before making a purchase.
That 1070 Is more expensive than my 1070ti and i payed $500 for mine a year or so ago.
Nice, I paid 399£ 440€ 520$ for my 1070ti January of last year(2018)Bit overpriced even back then, but i did that so i could pay with Bitcoin.
your face at 0:40 had me crying
Yesterday I saw a prebuilt at MicroCenter with a 2080TI and a 3900X for $2300. I don't remember the other specs, but I do remember that it wax a mini itx build.
That is a beautiful looking build, I'll give it that.
My calculation in $1850 AUD (I'm from down under) - $1300 USD at best for the parts alone, with possibly another $50 - 100 for the actual putting it all together, so looking at $1300 USD to start but not budging over $1400.
Dude I saw you eating at my job in caesars palace didn’t wanna bother you having lunch but was super cool to see you!
So basically going from that Pc to mine. I basically just got a stamp of approval from this man right here
Another reason not to buy someone else's mouse and keyboard are that these things are very much a matter of personal preference. I have four keyboards and seven mice that I use, I can't remember how many HIDs I've tried over the years to end up with eleven that are satisfactory, but using whatever HIDs come with a computer is like buying some shoes that are described only as "shoes' and trying to make do with them.
This PC listing is local to me haha so funny to recognize it.
First question: How long would it take you to build that?
Second question: How much do you charge an hour when freelancing?
Take those two answers and multiply and that's your upcharge
A PC build like this. In this case. Would take about four hours. So maybe he is charging 100$ an hour? It's a terrible spec.
HyperJ123 buddy it’s not that hard to build a pc
@@PanzerVII-df8hg still not worth 2500 though LMAO
I prefer to sell parts alone , I recently sold my old gtx 1080ti for 350dollars , while people still want to sell it for 800 “used”
You found a great nieche in youtube my friend, I can't think of anyone else who does this kind of content, keeo up the good work 👍
I have my R5 2600X overclocked and Corsair H55i 120mm is enough to cool it, i swapped the the included fan with Noctua.
I like these videos a lot great content n informative. thanks man
4:05 Bruh SSDs aren't hard drives.( The seller list the Samsung 970 evo m.2 as "HARD DRIVE")
that 8 pin CPU cable managment is a pain in the ass
Very good video, Maintain the great work. Thanks a ton.
My R9 3900x with 32GB of G.Skill Trident Z 3200 with an RTX 2070 Asus ROG Strix and Asus 450 board with new parts didnt even come close to being as expensive as that guys asking price. That was a skilled builder using shady tactics for a quick buck.
The beauty of a Greg Salazar video is never a lie.
boi
@@GregSalazar couldn't have replied better
If you want white sleeved cables, just buy a white RMx corsair PSU, it comes with white sleeved cables at 750/850w 80+ gold
This is actually pretty good usage of a green screen and even competently keyed.
I got my evga gtx 760 4gb acx cooling. 80 bucks used on ebay about 3 years ago. still works great.
well mate you might want to keep that liquid aio cooler because that would outperform any air cooler any day of the week but yes other things can go
I love my 1070 mini it is my backup card for my 1080 ti if it dies I have some stop gap card and a tester card. More than likely i'll give the 1070 to a family member when I upgrade their rig in a year or so.
I bought 4 1070s at $175 a pop.
Gigabyte triple fan models
Were they the aorus ones?
I'd imagine some simmers, on a tight budget, might go for a "cheap" 1080p 60Hz 3 monitor setup.
How much would be a fair price for these specs?
Gpu: 1080 ti asus strix
Cpu: i7-9700k
Memory: corsair vengeance 32gb 3200 mhz
Storage: 3×1 tb ex920 m.2 nvme
Psu: corsair rmx white series 750 watt
Motherboard: z390 gigabyte aorus master
Fans: four ml140 pro LED
Case: nzxt h500
And all custom looped
Congrats on 500k greg
Nice video btw
Thanks!
The 2600x does in my opinion can easily take advantage of a slightly better than stock cooler but nothing fancy is necessary
I see too many people selling their old stuff on ebay/carousell for the price that they bought it. Someone tried to sell their Surface Pro (the original) for $3000 because he bought it for $3200 😕
Let’s all be honest here we all love these kind of vids right?
So I have a bunch of nephews and there all under 13 years old, most are under 6... I wanted to prepare them for success by gathering material on computer literacy and i wanted to build a computer with them that we could all use for blockchain node interface, programming, and video/graphics editing along with learning about Open source stuff like Linux.
Could you do a video on some of those points?
The blockchain im interested in showing the older ones is Cardano.
Greg fighting the good fight.
My "friend" fell for this, he payed about $400 more than it was worth
RIP
F
Could try lowballing offers just for fun
