    I run my Deere with the bottom sieve wide open and the top only open a kernel width and low air....1190 rpm. No re-thresh at all.

    I grew up on a small farm in Oskaloosa Kansas until I was in the 9th grade, this would have been around 1976. I believe that is just south of Perry and about 34 miles north of Lawrence. The only paved Road was in town and that was for the grain trucks. Everything was centered around the elevators. We had the John Deere dealer there and a family type restaurant/ Bar and Grill and a small engine repair shop. There is also the hardware store where you could buy dynamite, guns and ammunition as well as Hardware. The one thing we didn't have was a grocery store. There was a posted board or I think it was a chalkboard actually where people would leave notes as to what they had for barter. Then there was the board over at the silos and that one mostly pertained to equipment and or services. Also our telephone was on a party line.

    Good job of explaining things Rob. History of towns are very interesting. Thanks.

    Excellent review of the 770. Bin site looks great and will enjoy seeing it put to use next season.

    I also run a 16 row on my S770, and have an 8 row I swap for the mean patches I have. Have installed a hopper topper for extra bin capacity.

    Completely agree on small town histories. Grew up in Platte County. Several small towns had railroads that no longer exist.

    Thanks for the update. Running a 1770 with the guidance hitch 16 planter and 12 head on 770 now and it’s going good most of the time. Ends suck but a 8 head would be the same thing most of the time.

    • @ONeillFamilyFarms
      @ONeillFamilyFarms  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah. When we were wide row, we did 12 row planter 8 row head. Since we tried to stay same. Not 100% necessary just something we like.

    • @jarrodwemhoff7270
      @jarrodwemhoff7270 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We did 12 8 from 98-09. It worked better in my opinion. Maybe because the planter/combine guy was younger.🤷‍♂️😂

    You never mentioned if the concaves were stock or if it had a tune or even needed one. We jumped this year with our 770 from 8 row to 12 but had copperhead concaves installed before hand. With 8 row I was doing 5.7 mph in 235 bu corn with the 12 I was doing 4.2 in 245 bu corn roughly 3700 bu per hour. Pretty incredible what the mighty little 9 liter can do

    • @ONeillFamilyFarms
      @ONeillFamilyFarms  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah good point. It’s all stock. I’ve been curious on concaves. What’s your thoughts on the copperheads?

    • @SouthernILAg
      @SouthernILAg 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ONeillFamilyFarms amazed at the increase in capacity and it was only $5700 for the kit. If you go with Estes they give you separator grates that go behind the rotor but my quote was $10,600 for those. We went with copperheads and noticeable difference in thrashing of soybeans and incredible capacity increase in corn. Only pain is you have to pop the filler plates in and out when switching crops or your bean sample will be real dirty

      Yes our power tech 9.0 liter 549's pss diesel engine wit twin vgt wastegate turbo chargers will push the 500hp mark but that's about all that diesel engine block would max out on

    Final drives are the same cleaning area is the same except in the 780 and 790 they have the extended precleaner but many guys throw that out and small grain speced machines don't come with it anymore.Also in beans and corn the rethrasher is supposed to be disengaged so only benifit it has is not putting tailings back into the rotor but are you even supposed to have lots of tailings in corn when machine is set correct?

    • @ONeillFamilyFarms
      @ONeillFamilyFarms  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Appreciate the info. Yeah kinda my understanding on tailings.

    How greater was the acreage increase per day compared to the 12 row?

    • @ONeillFamilyFarms
      @ONeillFamilyFarms  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      All honesty, I haven’t broke down the daily work history. But we did yield less overall too so that is a factor.

      Neighbor ran a 16 and 12 on a 680 and from what I heard it was 4 acres a hr.. I’d guess around the same from 8-12 rows.
